I've been watching your channel, and you sold me on the klx300 (I picked one up last night). Thank you for your awesome content and info. Definitely using your videos as reference for suspension tuning and performance mods!
Thank you for all the insightful videos. I'm hoping to buy a KLX 300 in the near future. I know nothing about tuning a bike. That said; if I do have the ability to buy it, will the the bike run reliably as is (stock) for as long as I own it, year after year, providing it's well maintained? I appreciate and value your input in this, since it's obvious you're a intelligent man. Congratulations on your master's. Very commendable my friend. Keep up the good work. And may the good Lord bless your endeavors.
Hi, I have watched all your KLX content and have really enjoyed it. I ended up getting 2018 klx250 because of it. I decided on the PCFC and see from this video that you used your buddies 250 fuel trim numbers. I am interested in if your friend got a tune for his bike or if he just runs the trims as shown. Is his bike lidless with an MCM mod? Thank for the great content!
Slowly I've ridden my 2021 KLX300R for a year now and have found I'm really wanting to make it more responsive and sporty. I'll probably go down the path of fuel mapping and such but was hoping to do so in stages. If I did a full exhaust (head, pipes, muffler) would you suggest coupling that with air box mods as well? It's my first fuel injected bike so flashing and dyno tuning are brand new to me. Loving the videos! I live in The Dalles and would love to meet up for a ride!
Jeff, will the power commanders from the sources you listed work on American bikes? I previously sourced a power commander FC17900E from Vanguard Motorsports ebay store in the UK for my 2019 KLX250 with a 351 big bore, and when I took it to my dyno appointment, they tried to hook it up and said it wasn't compatible, and DynoJet told them it was because it is a foreign model and not compatible with American bikes, even though it had the same product number (just with an "E" on the end). That didn't make sense to me since I've watched your KLX 351 videos and I've seen you using the FC17900E, so I don't know why they would tell me that or why the Dyno shop told me they couldn't get it working. If anyone reading this also has insight, feel free to chime in.
It is getting tougher for them to supply these parts with the emissions being cracked down on. My tuner said that for the newer ones, the older Power Commanders work with some slight modification.
I need to know for myself... is the EJK or the power commander a better buy? I have 0 experience tuning and there isn't a dyno around for hours. This should be factored in I suppose. I have a KLX300SM I might add.
I got the EJK and did the 02 bypass I also have the Delkevic slip on and the KDX snorkel. It sounds like I should put the 02 sensor back on, is that correct? Thanks in advance. Oh, I'm also in Oregon, west of Mcminnville.
I'm curious if the klx300r is, or can be made into a hare scramble serious competitor. You appear quite knowledgeable about this bike so your opinion will be valuable. I'm a B rider, Silver Masters.
The 300R certainly can. If I could find a good deal on one, I'd almost trade the 300 for it. The 300 is mainly limited by its lack of ignition tuning. Has great torque, but might fall short on the open stretches with other bikes.
Interesting video. Different sort of question. How wide left to right is the tool bag, please? I was wondering whether it would fit a normal size novel.
Just installed an EKJ using ur other vid! How’s that barker compare to the FMF? I bought a mega bomb but my exhaust I ordered in March won’t be ready til December. Don’t even want to give them my money at this point
Nice! Glad that video is still somewhat relevant. For the dual sport bikes, I prefer the Barker. It is a lot more raw and makes the dual sport motor sound like a dirt bike. The FMF sounds crisp, but not loud enough for me on the bike. The wait times for an FMF are ridiculous right now. I ordered a Powercore 4 back in March and there was still not ETA when I cancelled it in June. Also, the Barker is supposed to make the most power. I do prefer the FMF on my KX though.
I had a Power Commander 5 on my old Husky Terra with Autotune because the stock fueling was so erratic. The Autotune worked perfectly and I left it on there permanently. Is there an Autotune option with this Power Commander on the KLX? Also, do you remember how long it took to get your Power Commander? I'm thinking of getting the first one you provided on Ebay and the shipping dates are either not listed or 1 to 3 months depending on customs. Thanks
Autotune does not work unfortunately because this is just the fuel controller. It took me about one week from the Bike Design Benelux distributor and about a month with the other distributor. Power Commander actually just release this controller for the 300 in the US. They are out of stock as of right now though.
@@jhmotorclub6916 Thank You for the update. I will look for it here in the US then. I am on the fence to install the 351 kit or not, really need to ride the bike more. I have it geared down 14/44 with the stock chain and mainly ride trails. I don't like loud exhausts which is one reason I am holding back. Do you think there is much benefit with just a tuner or will it really need snorkel mod and exhaust to make noticeable difference? I prefer low end torque to peak horsepower. I was thinking with your 351 wrist pin problem, would it be possible to install a different wrist pin clip? They make spiral ones that will not come out and are much thicker.
That’s good to know. Somebody overseas was telling me they put the EJK for the 300R on their KLX 250 with a 300 bore kit, so I thought it was the same connections and could work with PC. Did you actually try it or just research? (because I’m not sure I’m ready to be disappointed yet. Lol)
I knew it work! It would actually run better with the O2 dongle. I sell an improved version, with the resistors inside the connector, and its then filled with black rtv, so vibration won't break the resistor leads.
Do you know where there are videos on how to tune the FC by the computer step by step? There are no maps that match my Kawasaki Vulcan 900. I am dealing with a lot of popping
I have had to learn FI over the years and I hugely appreciate what a good tuner can do in mapping them; they are better; but I honestly miss the "analog" world of flat slides and pumpers. Sometimes progress is still progress, but there's a place for nostalgia.. The PC is an awesome tool for modern world motorheads. Even before a tune, it seems like it's made a difference on the 300. Now when's your brother gonna get his license already? 😆
I sometimes think how much easier of a world I could have lived in back in the day 😆 It's part of the reason why I am majoring in IT so I can understand all the electronic nonsense lol. It definitely picked up by adding a bit of fuel for the extra flow! He only has a couple months now until August! He is already talking about doing dual vlogs, which will be a blast
🤘😎🏴☠️ That sounds good, my dude. For dual vlogging, have you looked into a blue tooth system? Some of the cameras can even record direct comms. Just a thought.
@@eljuano28 I plan on getting Sena's probably. I saw a video of one guy who put the speakers right next to the mic so you can hear what others are saying.
@@jhmotorclub6916 Thank you, I ordered one from Italy on Ebay, I will also have it dyno tuned as you suggested. Why do you think that there are none available in the US?
@@mikekoenig9950 Hey, sorry to revive an old thread. Just curious if you received the Power Commander you ordered from Italy and if you took it to a Dyno shop to be tuned. I too ordered and received one from overseas (FC17900E) for my 2019 KLX250. I took it to a Dyno shop for installation and tuning, but they said they couldn't get it to work, so they called Dyno Jet for assistance and they said that the foreign tuner wouldn't work on an American bike. That didn't sound right to me because I know Jeff had no problems with his. If you did take yours for tuning, did your Dyno shop have any problems with it?
I do not have a dyno tune on it at the moment (as explained in my upcoming video). Went to get it tuned and the controller went out. I am just running settings 3,3,4 on the face of the controller.
I completed the 351and mikuni carb upgrade and the bike cuts out above 8k rpms. I understand this is a low end rpm bike, but the cutting out is almost dangerous when running through gears and we reach that higher rmp for a few second before the shift. Everything else seems good, idle and pull. Bike is a 2009 klx motosport. I can't pull a wheelie, but it may be the motosport design inhibiting that. Heavier front end and smaller tire, but would like to know if I should have the pull to do it? Any suggestions about the cutting out and lack of wheelie ability? I uses to ride wheelie all day with my old kx250.and miss it 😔
A 351 will do clutch ups pretty easily in 2nd gear. 3rd gear would require a slight tug. The supermoto wheels are definitely harder to wheelie. I noticed that on mine when I had the wheels. Depending on what you mean by "cutting out", it could be either jetting or an ignition timing issues. That's where I would start
I have been in contact with someone with the 351 and tm34 carburetor and had put the bike on the dyno and are fairly certain that the stock klx head will not flow enough air for 351, I have the 331 and tm34 and don't seem to have this issue oversized exhaust valves and a retune would be they way to go with 351cc I think!
I am not that impressed with any of the options for the KLX250/300 and other models, It's time to have someone come out with a flash kit or start doing ECU FLASHING on the KLXand other bikes in the catagory. My big bikes are all but one bike now flashed to me power commanders and others are history to expensive and the new ECU flashs does give way more options and easy to change and truly dial in your bike.

Congrats on the Masters!
Thanks! It's a lot of work, but I am enjoying it!
So what’s the most power you ended up getting out of it??
What was the end result tune on the PCFC? Do you have a tuned map?

Hi how much is the power commander
About $290. But just get the O2 resistor plug instead, it's only $35.

I prefer the Power Commander. It is smoother than the EJK, but if you need a canned tune the EJK may be better for you
I just got done rebuilding a klx250 and while tiding it i realized how strange the bike is compared to other bikes
It does have some interesting quirks per say. There are certainly some things that get on my nerves when tearing it down lol 😅
When are you getting the custom tune?
I got the EJK and did the 02 bypass I also have the Delkevic slip on and the KDX snorkel. It sounds like I should put the 02 sensor back on, is that correct? Thanks in advance. Oh, I'm also in Oregon, west of Mcminnville.
Nice! If your green settings are not optimized, then it would be good to have the O2 sensor installed, because it aids in the idle.
Make sure you are using a resistor plug if you delete the O2 sensor. It will richen things up about 3% which is perfect for any slip-on exhaust.
Been waiting for this and will get a Power Commander, too. Do you keep the original sprockets?
The gearing is stock for now. Will most likely go to a +6 setup (-1 in the front, and +3 in the rear).
Since you have access does dynojet have available maps for 21 klx300 or do you have no option but to adjust yourself or dyno it.

Final drive gearing does not matter. Which gear the bike is dynoed in can make a difference if not taken into account

No, unfortunately this one does not, just fueling
Does the KLX300 only use the O2 sensor feedback at idle and low end, or is it giving feedback for fueling through the whole RPM range to redline?
It is mainly utilized for idle and low RPM operations
I really want to see if the 300R power commander will work. That would allow ignition tuning as well.
They have different connectors. I checked this out when the bike came onto the channel
