It's not spot and stalk, road hunting, flushing/pointing with dogs, still hunting, baiting, calling, sitting in a blind... it's listening, knowing and observing. Yeah she looked in the trees, but she knows how to locate and then look in the trees. Not all of us can hunt grouse as well as you and Barb can.

these last two episodes might've been the two best MeatEater episodes ever. Absolutely fantastic, just shows that it doesn't always have to be a big trophy that you're going after to make great memories and experiences.
I used this episode as a way to subtly show my 7 yr old daughter that "girls can hunt, too"! She will be going deer hunting with me this Fall! I can't wait!
As another female hunter, I absolutely love that the next generation is coming out hunting to ❤ I hope she keeps it up. As much as the boys are fine to hunt with, and they’re the ones I grew up hunting with, it’s always nice to have some ladies around!

These 2 are in my top 5 favourite episodes of Meateater. The forest is so beautiful along with the contrast in hunts. Barb is awesome. What an amazing hunter and so amazing to be hunting alone in that topography alone. I really enjoyed the dynamic between them and how open Steve was to learn, just awesome episodes.

This is the episode that made me a forever fan! Every show always has an episode that makes you realize that it’s for you! When Steve was humble enough to fail onscreen and admit that he just needs help with this hunt and came back next year with a humble woman directing him I wanted to not only see every future episode but every past episode too! Ok. I live in Alaska and have hunted all my life. I'd never even heard of a Sooty grouse! Ruffed, Blue, Spruce, and Ptarmigan have all been on my list. This is one of the coolest hunts ever.
I grew up hunting “Hooters” as we call them in SE Alaska. Use to harvest one for my Mom for her Mother’s Day meal……. No finer eating bird!!!! Brings back memories, thanks!!

The call of a sooty grouse sounds like a cell phone on vibrate, while it's stuck, out of reach, in the crack of the couch.
When Steve finds the animal and asks someone else if they have the shot you know that person is a true expert.
