The expression Helen had took me back to my first kill. The feeling of "did it just happen, did I really take it down?" The butterflies after realizing it is euphoric and one of the most reassuring feelings in the world.
Ditto. Confronting, relieving, disbelief... Even though you've been spending the whole time hunting, walking up on your first animal is still like "wait, what? ha? uhhh.... okay?" lol
Yeah I've taken a a few people from the city hunting up state. There's definitely an interest in it I think that most just don't know how to go about it.
A lot more people from the city hunt than you might think. Hunting is super easy and relaxing so a lot of people do it as a hobby. Obviously not these girls but it’s dope they were interested
@buller culler who are you to say who gets to enjoy nature? It’s public lands man. If they want to hunt, how tf does that affect you? WHO CARES. Get your ignorant ass out of here.
I've been hunting for 42 years and have taken hundreds of animals and every animal I take they also take a piece of me. I can remember everyone. It can be a spiritual moment. Congrats and enjoy that full freezer.
Big game. Don't feel that way about rabbits squirrels birds turkeys etc etc but try trophy buck or elk or bear or other such big game you can't help but have some deep spiritual appreciation for them I would love to get a musk ox or a bison or a mountain goat or fall sheep because I know those rarer more "exotic" species give you even more of "that" feeling that bear elk trophy bucks etc give ya. Pigs and other such invasive destructive species do not give it. Also exotics like axis deer and those others they have in Texas etc I would love to get one and feel THAT too
Great episode. The ladies added a lot to the video, handled themselves very well (better than I would have, probably) and it was an added bonus that they are both from a huge city and attached to the Meat Eater franchise as well.
@buller culler tell me you are single living in your moms basement without actually telling me that you are single living in your moms basement, Jesus dude maybe turn off the sexist act and be a human being
Ryan was fabulous with the young staffer from Brookyn. He was such calm, reassuring, accurate guide. She nailed the shot, and was so pleased with the result. Ryan Callaghan is a great guide, and one of the best people in this show.
Best episode in a while, watched it with my wife, she said it reminded her of her first mule deer hunt and the fact that she came away empty handed but full of knowledge and appreciation for the woods. I think we hiked 13 miles on that hunt.
This reminds me of when I taught my daughter to deer hunt. I even learned a few things from just teaching her. She ended up being a better shot than me, and is now a complete deer slayer.. quick, decisive, safe, and successful...Watching her take her first deer was one of the most rewarding times of my life. Maybe one day, we can afford to go on a trip like this before I get too old to go. Thank you for sharing. This was beautiful.
I love this show and I’m binge watching it for the first time. I’m amazed at that here they saw with Helen. Never seen so many on the show so far and she’s more patient than I’d be
Congratulations to both of you young ladies. There is a look I have noticed on every person's face when they walk up on their first elk. I am glad the camera guy caught it on Helen's face. I love seeing that look mote than taking an elk myself. I will never get enough of seeing it. Thank you and keep up the good work. Helen and Brittany, I hope we see both of you again in the field, and welcome to the passion of the mountains
There is so much wisdom in this video, it should be mandatory viewing for every human being before parking their hat on planet earth! By way of this adventure, these two ladies have had their lives changed dramatically.. in a good and important way! Thanks you guys, I really enjoyed watching this!!
I think that my favorite episodes, over all the seasons, are the ones where Steve, Cal, Janis, etc. take out new or novice hunters. I especially liked this one and hope to see the ladies out at it again with you guys.
@buller culler tell me you are single living in your moms basement without actually telling me that you are single living in your moms basement, Jesus dude maybe turn off the sexist act and be a human being
@buller culler if you are such a tough hunter, can you keep up with Cameron Hanes or Adam Greentree? No? Then are you a woman? I know some women that can keep up with them. Are they men? Nah, you are just a soft baby and some women are tougher than most men will ever be.
Steve , one of your finest programs , Thankyou for sharing Cal and your experiences with the Ladies and us .I’m not a hunter, but certainly a hardcore fan!
I know it feel when you take someone out for their first elk hunt. Happy, joyful, and tears. My son's first youth elk hunt in north-western Colorado. My son even made it on RMEF for youth hunt late elk hunt 2020. Way to go so happy for her.
I’ve done this, and it never ceases to amaze. To shut up, act real and quiet. To take everything and all seriously. Forward facing, and completely living. Women in the provider element change, and are never after the same. In those moments they realize how real food life and death actually are. And to me it’s beautiful. Natural. And undeniable.
Got my first deer in the sweet grass range at the age of 13. The Sweet Grass Range was only about an hour drive from my home in Havre. It was a big buck and I was so proud and it set me up for a lifetime of hunting and the outdoors.
Wow! I was in tears of deep love and respect several times during watching this one! Thanks to all of you who participated in this great and difficult hunt!
Amazing episode and refreshing taking first time hunters out. Showing both successful and unsuccessful hunts, but knowing regardless of the outcome you've learned so much about the land, the quarry you seek, and possibly most important learned about yourself and those you share that journey with.
Two things come to mind when I watch this. First, I love the way they celebrate the hunt without the obnoxious hooting and hollering like so many other hunting shows. Secondly, seeing Cal with that much hair is blowing my mind :) By far, my favorite hunting people.
That's what I was thinking as well... in that moment, so many other hunters would begin to 2nd guess themselves about NOT taking it and start to over-estimate their abilities and their mind would start to tempt them to think they were more capable than they are which would result in them taking a bad shot. She resisted and avoided that. Super human control, right there.
I hope brittany got her chance another time and she didnt stop! thats hunting! sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you arent. you cant force it. hunting has taught me more about life than any school ever could or anything else in my life.
6:20 "Damn it, I should have taken a shot" If you are uncertain of the shot is is much better that you DON'T take the shot. You did the right thing. Good job.
Totally awesome. One of the best videos describing the hunt I’ve ever viewed. Everybody should watch this episode. Hunters, non hunters and especially spouses. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Give yourselves a pat on the back, this is truly taking the sport of hunting to a higher level and insuring that we have future hunters, ladies you are amazing keep up the good work and good hunting
As much as I love the exotic and legendary trophy hunts, these episodes with new hunters are very appealing. As a new hunter myself it’s very relatable.
Man, look at the way those elk all move as a unit, it's so cool to watch. Man, hunting is SO amazing, even without shooting an animal, the experiences you're rewarded.
My uncle was my mentor. he always told me that, what makes a good hunter ist not "pulling the trigger" but "not pulling the trigger". You cant take those couple of grams back once you shot. so make them count and make sure you dont have a reason to regret it.
