    I had a client's gun jam in the Skeena mountains with a big bear charging from 40 yrds. I shot it once at about 8 feet from us with my .300 mag and it dropped at our feet. I'm yet to have a gun jam on me but I know it can happen, and if you don't stay calm, you don't have much chance to survive. The strength and speed of these creatures is truly amazing!!!

    Nice hunts! My brother shot a nice white tail but it was really wet and the little bit of snow was melting and it was dark, we found a few drops of blood but not much and I wasn’t feeling good about it. We tracked it to the heavy brush with very little sign but as soon as we entered the really thick stuff it had let loose like a garden hose and was may 20 yards in, 9 point with a 18.5 inch spread.

  • @michaeldavid6284
    @michaeldavid6284 7 месяцев назад +28

    It's amusing how many statements are made saying the Kodiak bear is the largest land carnivore and that the polar bear is the largest predatory carnivore. Then you read that the polar bear is a MARINE mammal, so it's technically not a "land" carnivore. All the lit I've read puts the biggest of each at about the same size, so IMO it's a moot point. But one thing for sure: if you're in polar bear country and he's hungry, he will hunt you and eat you. The same can't always be said about the brown bear.

    • @neecyboyd9116
      @neecyboyd9116 7 месяцев назад +4

      Seems like it's the same for both tho. They both will attack whether they're hungry or not. They see humans as a good meal. My question is which one is stronger, the Polar Bear or the Kodiak Bear. Imagine a battle amongst the two. I believe the Polar Bear would win the battle.

    We once put a hunter on a massive brown bear at less than 30 yards and about 20 feet above. The bear was oblivious. I manned the video gear focused on the bear. The other guide coached the hunter, who was lying prone with a solid rest. When the other guide said shoot, take him now, it could not have been a better presentation. Click went the hunter's gun. That big ol bear didn't hesitate. It was like throwing a light switch. He hightailed right into the alders, which were only 30 feet away. Today, when I watch that video, two things stand out: the bear's reaction speed and my unscripted impromptu comment: What the blank was that, to the click of the empty chamber. When you go to ruin a grizzly bear's day, you never know how it will turn out.
