@@springcady6589 I know exactly where you are coming from. I've been smoking in April of 1988 when I turned 18. I have tried many, many times, but haven't been able to. I can certainly relate to "its a part of me". In fact, I've even said those words before, when I tried to quit. Its like losing a limb.
Quitting cold turkey clearly works for many, but not all. For me, after about 4 hours of quitting, I begin to get light headed and dizzy (and that's not even counting the fits). Considering I drive trucks for a living, I cannot be in that condition.
On a final note, I had a boss tell me one time who used to smoke, but quit: "If you don't really WANT TO quit, nothing you try will work." And I cannot deny that there is a part of me that doesn't really want to quit. And I hate that part of me. Personally, I think its the "its a part of me" thing. But the fact that I'm even here watching this video tells me that I want to get past that, and actually quit for a change.

I'm 41, started smoking when I was 11, this March will be 2 yrs since I've quit.
I LOVED SMOKING!!!! They're your little buddies that are always with you. They've been a part of your life for soooo long! You use them as a dependent, a treat, a reward.
Even though I deal with asthma, that wasn't a good enough reason for me to quit.
That being said, they are not your buddies, they want to kill you!
I quit cold turkey but I WANTED to quit. The mental part of it was harder then the physical cravings. The cravings subsided about 3 weeks after quitting but the mental part of it carried on for about 8 months.
I'm a trucker and I always had the opportunity to smoke, all day long.
What kept me going was my will power and researching how the body heals it's self after quitting, that was a big help for me. Also for motivation I looked at it this way... I'M PAYING THE GOVERNMENT TO KILL ME!
I live in Canada, a large pack, 25 King size, 2 years ago was around $16... might be more now.
I already pay a crazy amount of taxes here, why am I gonna keep paying this crazy price for cigarettes to the government?
YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT... AND THEN YOU WILL!
    I wish you well.

I am so grateful for this information that you've given to me. I started smoking at the young age of 7 years old. My Mom was a smoker and my parents found out I had been smoking at the age of 10 years old and rather than punish me, they just asked me to smoke at home and not at school. I was diagnosed with asthma and emphysema in my mid 40's. I'm 54 and I'd been on Chantix for a few years which curved my desire to smoke. Some days 0 to 3 or4. That's down from 3 packs a day at my highest to a 1 pack a day. Unfortunately, Chantix has been pulled off the market about 6 months ago. In America they don't teach us things like this. The pharmaceutical companies are all in kahoots with the government. The government now owns the medical insurance and they just keep putting people on medication, not to heal them, but rather make us lifelong customers. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.

Holy crap! I had to read the part about Chantix three times - I can’t believe you stayed on Chantix for a few *YEARS,* instead 3 _MONTHS_ (people are supposed to quit within the first month of being on the medicine, and stay on it for 2-3 more months in case they slip up).
That is mind blowing to me! It seems pretty clear that you simply didn’t want to quit, and fought against what the drug was doing to help you stop.
The last bit of what you wrote doesn’t make much sense. First of all, you say that the government now owns medical insurance. That is only true for Medicare (federal ins for dusabled & people age 65 and over), and for those with state insurance help like Medicaid/Medical/etc for extremely impoverished people. Most people don’t have such insurance plans, and instead get private business owned health insurance through their jobs.
For me, I have BOTH a gov’t plan AND a private company, because I became disabled at age 28. Medicare doesn’t have the best coverage, so I pay most of my monthly ssc check on the monthly premium for a secondary private PPO insurance plan to supplement Medicare’s coverage.
I would say though that gov is most definitely in bed with big pharma, but it was YOU that chose to take Chantix incorrectly by staying on it for years on end.

Like everyone else in the 50's and 60's I started smoking as a child, (not uncommon at the time). I smoked fairly heavily my whole life with a few breaks of a year or two in attempts at quitting. I could never stay quit and pretty much gave in to the truth that I would smoke till it killed me. In October of 2019 I had a cold/flu that came with a nasty cough.no problem for an iron lung like me, except that it got sooo bad that one day I just couldn't stop coughing and was trying to smoke at the same time. I could've breathe or even inhale a tiny bit of smoke.
I looked at the half a cigarette in my left hand. I put it out in the ashstray. I put on a nicotine patch that I had left over fron a previous attempt at quitting and went the rest of the day without smoking. I had no intention of quitting, just waiting for the cold to pass.
One day turned into 2, turned into 3, etc.i did the whole patch program as directed and have just celebrated my 3rd anniversary of being smoke free. Haven't looked at one, touched one, or smelled one since that day, and i would put a gun in my mouth before I ever put another cigarette in there.
My point is ... If I can do it so can you. Nevere quit quitting.

Thank you for this video. Thank you to all previous and current smokers in the comments for your information. I have been smoking since I was 18. I'm 38 now. I'm always thinking about quitting. But as a person with anxiety issues. Smoking always becomes my comfort zone. But a short lived moment, leading to more smoking just to maintain that comforting feeling. I always regret why I started in the 1st place, it was just for fun. But now it's more than just fun. I hope to find the strength to quit, the thought is with me everyday.... I know I will, if I can start it, I can end it. The power is with me😇

It's really hard to quit but you'll be so very happy once you do. Try doing something where your hands are busy when you get the urge to smoke -- things that I know work are washing dishes, any household chores where you need to use both hands, even taking a shower helps -- the physical cravings do stop sooner than you'd think -- takes a few days -- but smoking cravings are triggered when doing things where you normally will smoke so need to recognize the triggers and replace the cigarette with something else -- drink something non-fattening -- flavored seltzer or unsweetened tea -- something you like to take your mind off the cravings. You can do it -- it's hard but so worth it.

It's hard but you can quit for sure. I quit after 25 years of heavy smoking. It took multiple attempts and different methods but I did it. Been two and a half years now since smoking. Werthers original hard candy and atomic fireballs were a big help. And doing push ups or squats till I was exhausted when I was able to during cravings. I still think about smoking every day but I don't get cravings anymore. You can quit. You just have to really be ready to and find a way that works for you. Good luck 👍

My method for quitting smoking was surprisingly simple.
I stopped smoking, and stopped buying cigarettes.
Anytime I felt like I wanted a smoke I would remind myself that "I don't smoke anymore".
I was a heavy habitual smoker aswell. All it took was willpower. The desire to stop smoking. It is entirely within your power to stop.

Shaming isn't helpful, it's one of the things that makes it hard to quit. When I quit drinking, I lost pretty much all of my friends. I still haven't rebuilt my social circle completely in the decades since I quit drinking.
It's also worth recognizing the drug addiction is usually centered on social interactions. If you don't address that, then the likelihood of quitting in the long term suffers significantly.

Cycling up to 80 miles (around 120km) a day, 5 days a week plus mountain biking at the weekends.
Within 6 months my asthma almost cleared up completely. Within a year I no longer needed to carry my inhaler. It’s never really come back ? I’m still prone to chest infections but the cycling seemed to strengthen my lungs, or that’s how it felt.

Then if u attempt to quit, you will find yrself triggered anytime u drive down a certain street b/c every a.m. that was the street u lit up on so u could finish prior to getting to work....or anytime u saw tom you'd be triggered cuz he waz yr drinkin buddy...or u kno, after dinner, after sex etc.

Cystic Fibrosis patient here. I usually balk at detox videos, but this is pretty good.
The reality is that there isn't much you can do except minimizing exposure to risk factors: if you smoke, smoke less; if you live in a polluted area, minimize exposure to pollution; if you get a lower respiratory infection, treat it quickly. Over time your lungs will heal everything they can (unless the tissue has become fibrotic).
for the average person - Stay healthy, keep shit out of your lungs, get some cardio in every day (even a 5 minute run will get the cilia beating again), autogenic drainage, huff coughs, and the occasional dose of hypertonic saline.

The more you smoke the lower your tolerance to stress. Making you want to smoke more. Quitting and going through the withdrawls is far better.

Try to keep pushing it for later, if you feel like smoking tell yourself tomorrow . And then when tomorrow comes keep trying to prolong it. Once you hit 4 days it should get easier. it’s not always about quitting (in the beginning) but allowing yourself to become satisfied with smoking less. (Needing less) and not as often as before.

I was a smoker since I was 18 and I had my birthday last 9/11/21, I am now 29 - - decided to stop smoking as a gift for myself. Few weeks were hard but I want to improve and take care of myself. At least I tried smoking but now I want to recuperate and be better. So far so good. Its all in the mind, bro.
I went few sticks, avoided drinking with friends because it triggers to smokea lot then I switched to vape. From juice with nic to none foe like 3 months then I stopped.
Kept myself busy - - basketball, manhwas, animes, local travel and whenever I feel like I want to smoke - - I play my basketball with just my hand w/o going to court.
There are a lot of friends or colleagues who does not believe in your change and entices you to go back on your vice or go back to smoking. Had few drinks with them after shift and they really want me to smoke but I rejected them everytime.
A lot of people does not want to make you better you know and only yourself can care about yourself so dont deprive yourself to be better. Yourself deserves to be at its best bro! Think!

I noticed doing the 1 to 2 method helped bring up mucous. I've done this while swimming as well. Deep breath then let out slowly under water as long as you can take. I once had an ER nurse tell me that coughing out the mucous is very IMPORTANT. Even if someone has to lightly pound on ur back. You HAVE to cough it out. No matter what, get that fluid out. And she was right. Sometimes it can be painful. But for ur healths sake, it's gotta get outta there. Good video. Thank You!!!😊

As a smoker I noticed a big improvement switching from prerolled cigs( store bought) to hand rolled. I bought the tops roll machine. At first there were withdrawls, which told me I was addicted to more than tar and nicotine. But it was so worth it. Pipe tobacco is not treated with 500 different chemicals like store cigs. Rolling my own is also cheaper.

Cold 🦃 is just a turn of phrase for when someone quits a habit without the use of physical or medical assistance, tapering the amount etc. So, if u quit with no help like nicotine patches/gum etc; then we call that "quitting cold 🦃." I have no explanation why, but yeah.
ALSO, and arguably more importantly, I'd like to let u know that ppl have all kinds of variables individually when it comes to quitting a habit or addiction. There is genetic factors which can greatly impact a person's experience when attempting to quit, as well as psychological & social/environmental influences.
The reason I feel it's important to let u know this is; YOU had a rare & unique experience in quitting and u should be thrilled. I know I myself would kill to have that type of experience. I have heard several ppl who say "i just stopped, why can't you" or ppl have said "well, you've got to REALLY want it or it won't happen, so u must not really want it" but yo, ppl can't say what something will be like for someone else it don't work that way.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade Год назад

@@jackiec498 Cold turkey specifically refers to when you cut yourself off completely without medical treatment. There are other ways, I'd recommend that people don't even try that, just gradually increase the time between when you want the cigarette and when you let yourself have it. If after that time you still want it, then you can have it, if not, don't. Over time, the duration should get to be longer and longer.
There is a very different reaction to when you decided you can't ever have something as opposed to not having it right now.
