I know that many people are going to ask where to buy the seed. My recommendation is to try your local landscape/seed distributor first because there are many distributors around the country for Mountain View Seeds. If that does not work for you here are a couple online options, Im sure there are more out there also. 1. Newsom Seed if you are local to Maryland 2. unitedseeds.com/product/super-turf-i-ls/ (They have the individual seed varieties) 3. www.seedsuperstore.com/catalog/cat-100013/1011tall-fescue? (Valkyrie LS variety) 4. Amazon - Mountain View Seed Top Choice Turf Type Tall Fescue. They also have Rye. 5. Tuckahoe Turf Farms located in New Jersey
Wow.. I just did a total renovation with Midnight KGB from TwinCity Seed. I wish I would have found this video 1 month ago. Thanks so much for all your updates.
Looks like a top notch seed , I did a Reno with GCI Seed last fall and am very happy with so far will see what happens come summer , thanks Cam for showing this.
NTEP is always my first look at different cultivars and MVS seed is almost always a top contender within NTEP (scoring within top 25% consistently across different tests). Good stuff
Exactly! I always go to the NTEP when I am thinking about a new seed. That is exactly what I did with to decide on this seed blend. I was glad to see that it performed as well as the NTEP said that it would. Thanks for watching man!
Thanks 👍🏾! It was a little too dense for the first year, which is why I think some of the disease pressure started to creep in. But it still held up great on a good fungicide program. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!
I over seeded with MVS in late September. It yielded great results, thanks to your content. As always, great video/content. Looking forward to another successful season! #WeWorkin💪🏾🌱
Thats great Portia, Im glad to hear that! I love it when my recommendations on the channel work out great for people. Thanks for the feedback! #WeWorkin
Portia Farrow did you use the same seed? i can't find a place to order it. I reached out to MVS, looking for the same seed and no response as of yet. Thank you for any info!
I'm sure your neighbors HATE you having the most luscious green lawn on the street lol. Looks great. My idiot irrigation company didn't sink the trunk lines low enough and I don't trust what they did to airate my lawn so I'm trying to figure out some options to keep my lawn looking good. Keep up the great work. Love the videos
Thanks man! Many of my neighbors do not really care about the lawn as long as it is somewhat green. They do appreciate the effort that I put into my lawn so that is pretty cool. You can still overseed without aeration. Slit seeding, dethatching, and scarifying are also another options that will help make that seed bed without going very deep into the soil. Something to think about for the fall.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes I do try to de-thatch at the beginning and end of season and then overseed... but man I miss renting an aerator and having my neighbors laugh at little old me get dragged around the yard hahaha.
I did an overseed with Pete's TTTF and a three way bluegrass mix from seed superstore but I killed off two plots and did one with only each to compare for a possible front yard renovation but now you got me thinking about that MVS lol
Pete has some good seed also, I have used it! Both are quality seeds but I'm loving the results of this MVS. I have seen and cut it for my self and I'm a believer.
Good gawd bro great job and dayym that’s some color frfr. I might have to scoop and try that out. Seen you on the factor recently seem like a cool dude man.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes I'm going to be driving to Florida from Virginia in 6 weeks have you herd of southern seeds in North Carolina they triple threat plus its a 3 way blend of tttf and a kbg. 50 lb for 157.00
Where are finding the mazama? I found some really awesome blue grass seed and plan to start the project this spring? I want to mix it with what I have .
Glad to hear that you had good results on it! My experience/opinion on the lateral spread is that a single plant seems to tiller off more leaves than other TTTF that I have used. With that additional tillering and leaf blades it forms a thicker lawn therefore seeming to "spread". I think you can get away with reducing the seeding rate with this seed and not having to seed up to the 10 lbs/1000 like normal fescue on bare ground. That can be a huge benefit with the seed prices going up recently.
Where are finding the mazama? I found some really awesome blue grass seed and plan to start the project this spring? I want to mix it with what I have .
@@ElevatedLawnscapes That's true. I also like the germination rate. I may hit some thin spots in the Spring if I could time it correctly. Otherwise I may wait until the Fall since those spots are in my backyard. That way I can focus on strengthening the stand for year two.
Great video cant wait for my full reno. That doesnt look like disease pressure though, looks like general senescence and needing to be dethatched from being seeded so thick. Looks great that thick though!!
The place that I use to purchase it is no longer selling this product. I will need to find another source for this product or switch something new. I have enough to get me through this season so I will be researching this in the fall.
During the summer I cut it at 4.25" but it definitely looks better at about 3-3.5". It also seems that this this the grass prefers to be cut a little lower. This year I am going to keep it no taller than 3.5", we will see how it goes.
Hey brother, I live in the Maryland area and looking for some pointers on what to buy for my yard before I spend a ton of money. Already planning to buy the Mountain View seed. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Its more important t have solid cultural practices of mowing, watering, fertilization, and weed control than the specific product...except seed. I suggest that you work with what you have this spring and seed in the fall. Unless you currently have bare ground. Get you a fertilizer from your local turf supply or Ag store that meets the needs of your soil based on your soil test results. I've got a number of videos with information. Developing a consistent mowing, watering, and fertilization routine while using a high quality seed are the keys.
If you overseeded recently you can use herbicides for weed control after about 3-4 mows. If you overseeded last fall you are good to use herbicides now. I recommend using something other than Tenacity because there are other herbicides that are much more effective than Tenacity.
@Elevated Lawnscapes I am new to this on my first lawn so I'm doing a full renovation this coming fall and planning everything out and using MVS. If I can't use tenacity at the same time as overseeding what's a herbicide I can put down with the seed?
@@KiNgDaNcEr First off welcome to the game! Overseeding and full renovation are 2 different things. A full renovation you are going to kill your existing lawn and start over. If you are doing that then yes you can use Tenacity at the time of seeding. In your original question you stated you were overseeding, which means that you are keeping your existing grass and just adding new seed to it. In that case, I would not use Tenacity at the time of seeding. I would take care of the weed problem first, then overseed.
I am a little confused; where can folks not in MD buy this seed? I contacted this feed store in MD and was quoted 50.00 for shipping. Thanks in advance
I have a question. I live a New York Long Island I’m new to this thing since I’m a new home owner, would it be about to resist the cold, and snow during the winter. Would it still be green for me in ny
It would stay green for a while but would eventually go brown for a period of time. If you added some rye seed to it maybe it would stay green a little longer. When it gets NY wintertime cold almost all grass is going to go dormant for some period of time, its just not made for those cold temps.
out of curiousity, how important is the ratio of how much non-grass type stuff is in the package? the ohio state mix is 50% seed 50% other matter/weeds..
I have 2 questions for you to think about which will help answer your initial question. Are ok with paying full price and only getting 50% of what you really want? Are you ok with planting weeds that you will later have to buy herbicides to kill If there is a herbicide that will kill that weed? Answer those 2 questions and you will have your answer.
@@TheCreamRisesToTheTop It probably is coated and I don't think it has 50% weeds. For sure it only has 50% seed some amount of weed seed. Both of those factors are a no-go for me when I'm spending my hard earned money.
