- Short little news clip. Less than 2 minutes.
I don't like to these short 2 minute videos but they seem popular.
Batman [directed by Tim Burton] opened to record box offices grosses in June 1989.
The summer of 1989 was one of the most loaded in movie history. At one point, you had Batman, Lethal Weapon 2, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Ghostbusters II, Parenthood, Licence To Kill, and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade all in theaters at the same time. That's crazy.
golden age of quality blockbusters
Don t forget back to the future 2 and hulk hogan no holds barred
I remember. Ghostbusters II and Batman were everywhere - including the “Batdance” and “On Our Own.”
Watching Batman 89 in the movie theater when you were 10 was like riding your first roller-coaster. Well done Mr. Burton and crew!
The late 80s and 90s was an incredible time to be young!
I was 18 in 89 and as a comic book geek, Batmania was my Woodstock!
Well said!!
Summer of 1989 Batman was everywhere. I was a huge Joker fan so it was amazing to walk into any store and see Joker stuff. I went to Myrtle Beach that summer and you couldnt escape Batman merch. Such an awesome time.
I was 7 yrs old when the film came out. It was a buzz in the air. I remember the weekend of the release the George St cinemas in Sydney Australia in 1989 were absolutely packed with lines all the way down the street in both ways. People dressed in Batman and Joker shirts, hats etc. Stores were selling anything Batman related and it was just flying off the shelves.
Every cinema was showing mostly Batman on their screens to satisfy the demand.
There’s only a couple of times where I could compare the absolute craze and hype of Batmania in 1989. Possibly Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Star Wars prequels, The Dark Knight and Avengers.
I want the movie experience to be like this again
Never going to happen again.

The last films to ever do that for anyone is Spider-Man 1, 2 & 3.
Well, Iron Man… I’ll leave that one for the others to decide.
@@KenMasters. None of those were actually the phenomenon that Batman 89 was.
@@KadeBronson
I can see your point for Robert Downey Jr's superhero film… But Tobey Maguire's?!
• Both Jack Nicholson's Joker and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin are equals.
• Both films have Danny Elfman's epic musical scores.
• Both have the most iconic costume designs.
• No other actor for Batman and Spider-Man has ever topped Keaton and Maguire.
• Both have cancelled sequels that are tragically lost forever within the unused scripts.
@@KenMasters. Not saying they are not good films or iconic...but they were not the cultural event that Batman was in 89. How old were you in 89?
@Vampire Robot
This is my first time visiting your channel. What a treasure trove of rare footage.
Thanks for taking the time to upload this clip in particular. If you have any more videos on the Batmania of 89 please upload them!
This movie literally changed my life. It started me down a path of geek culture still going strong today. It also informed my aesthetic tastes going into the '90s. It was the first movie I went to see multiple times in theaters. 5 times.
"anesthetic tastes"
Damn autocorrect!😂
@nathanstroud2223 in this case, it was auto-suggest. I should really learn to proofread before I post.
@@drewtheunspoken3988 I was wondering if you were a local or general anesthesia guy.
@@nathanstroud2223 definitely general, lol!
Me too.
That movie came at the right year as that year celebrated Batman's 50th anniversary.
He said radd awww that's so 80's
This was a true batman the hype was real not like the fake hype we get nowadays
R.I.P. Prince (1958-2016) 🙏🙏😭😭😭😢
We should get another batman 1989 hype again in 2024
People just don't know how important batman1989 was😢
35 years ago, today, this movie came out and changed the world forever
Yeah, the summer of 89 was huge, I remember it as if it was yesterday. I saw Batman twice.
1989 was a good year for Batman.
I remember the 1966 TV series and the movie that came out based on the show. Deja vu all over again!
This was awesome! I had the sheets
You gotta love how most of the merch was the Blue and Grey Batman over the all Black Batman the movie had
The Dark Knight was a masterpiece, but the "Summer of the Bat" will always be 1989, not 2008; in terms of cultural phenomenon, it doesn't compare.
Wish I could go back in time to relive this moment all over again. A true enjoyment for all Die hard Batman fans.
I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid. I was fairly young, but I remember.
thats the best white man voice ive ever heard. he got me.
It really must’ve been fun to watch Batman 1989 Superman 1978 and Star Wars 1977 in theaters
01:20 Guy looks like slightly younger Jerry Seinfeld with a thicker mullet and goatee.
Ahhh, fond memories of being a kid in the 80's. 🥰
I wasn’t alive when this came out, but I do remember the hype for The Dark Knight and it was fantastic!
You make me feel old; I was 8!!
What a time to be alive I wish I was old enough to experience it
Back when the "Valley Drive-In" was (still) open - in Ocean-side, California. (It closed - in 1996.) 😔
That Batman soundtrack got worn out in my cassette player.
I missed out on Batman but I remember Jurassic Park being monsterous in 1993
and WB have stated to this day that the movie never made a profit.
Larry Mulins from 1010 WINS!! 😍
The boy with the Italian necklace say is cool it's cool
1:16 - dude has his Bat cape on his head 😂
I looked up the journalist, he still works in media, now on radio.
I love seeing this.
"It was rad!" Haha
Do one about the TMNT movie release in 1990.
Back when people were still relatively normal and the world was too.
Why no anniversary theater showing yet?
The narrator seems like an old db lol
I want to write that my name is Josh Tate and i want to write that the year 2024 will not only be the 35th anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman film but it will also be Batman's 85th anniversary year too,
Just a week until flash
More Hype than any movie, biggest let down
1:17 Did this man just compare liking superhero comics to being gay?
80s was a different world lol
Just a couple of weeks before I was born.
You make me feel old; I was 8!!
@@patrickc3419 Trust me man that's nothing to how old my parents were back then to today.
In comparison, films nowadays like Dune are just cheap hype.
This is alotta Bat-shit! Hah!
It wasn't that great.
You have to keep in mind the time in which it came out. The only live action Batman that existed and people knew was Adam West.
it was greater. cope
It was the best Batman ever
My own thoughts? For all the films done, they just never quite nailed it with the casting for Batman.
Keaton was kind of boring, Kilmer & Clooney were awful, and many people (including myself) look back on Bale’s ridiculous overacting.
I think the safest way to have done it was with a no-name actor.
