You can really hear the fondness that rip has for his dad. I think these cooking episodes are more for him than us, I bet smelling the different dishes as he’s cooking brings back vivid memories of his dad cooking:)

There is something very very romantic and idealistic about this rough appearing man reminiscing about his dad and mom, hard working American people that built this nation. Something in this brings tears to my eyes.

For me, as a Southerner (Arkansas/Oklahoma border area) the best thing about this video is that he refers to his parents as "Daddy" and "Mama." There are *worlds* of love in those two words.

I learned to fry chicken from my mother, nearly the same method. Typically we apply the flour in a brown paper bag, adding a few cuts at a time and shaking. Love the simplicity of the recipe. Guess I need a yard bird pan.

Frying chicken in a shallow pan/skillet isn't worth the cleanup, in my opinion. It's barely worth it with deep one. Chicken fried at home is for sure the best but I can call UberEats and have some Popeyes here in 20 minutes. It's a fair trade off for me. I cook my sides at home and then order chicken out.

Looks great! This one reminded me of my mom's fried chicken. I think cooking was mostly an annoyance to her, but she'd often hit on stuff that was great. She'd lightly roll the chicken in flour and then fry it in butter. I think she probably learned it from her French-Canadian grandmother who owned a hotel in Maine.
It's also nice to hear you speaking so affectionately and appreciatively of your parents.
