    Some corrections!
Grover is actually supposed to look slightly older than Percy. I missed this at first because it's only subtly alluded to, but Percy did suspect him of being held back a couple years in school due to his acne and facial hair. Chiron also later reveals that Grover is 28 years old, but looks younger because satyrs age at half the rate of humans, which would make him look around 14.
It's revealed in the third Magnus Chase book, _The Ship of the Dead,_ that Riptide's pronouns are actually she/her. I deeply apologize for misgendering her, and will do better in the future.
Technically, the cabins weren't all built when Camp Half-Blood was founded. According to _Camp Half-Blood Confidential,_ campers originally slept in the Big House. It wasn't until the camp got more crowded that Chiron divided the campers into family groups and had them build cabins. The idea that Poseidon built a cabin specifically for Percy is still inaccurate, but my explanation was mistaken. Also, if we really want to be technical, some of the cabins were destroyed and rebuilt at least once during the camp's lifetime, as alluded to by Zoë and Artemis in _The Titan's Curse._
Medusa actually _is_ implied to have some level of hypnotic power during the fight with her in the book. I should not have sinned that scene.
In this video, I claim that the gift Poseidon gave the Athenians to rival Athena's olive tree was the saltwater spring. That is accurate to how Annabeth tells the story in _The Lightning Thief,_ but in the account of the competition Percy gives in _Percy Jackson's Greek Gods,_ Poseidon's gift for the competition was the horse, with the creation of the saltwater spring being a separate event. I can't seem to find anything to suggest either version of the story is correct or incorrect, so I'm just going to leave this at "I only quoted one version of the story, and failed to acknowledge other equally valid versions."
More of an excuse than a correction, but it has since occurred to me that this movie came out before _The Mark of Athena,_ the first appearance of the Athena Parthenos statue in the Riordanverse canon. So at least from the perspective of the books, it's only an inaccuracy in retrospect, which isn't entirely fair. Of course, had they followed the book and not included the Parthenon scene, they wouldn't have opened themselves up to retroactive inaccuracies like this. And this doesn't solve the issue of them blatantly misrepresenting a real piece of classical artwork, but that's a whole other thing.
My pronunciation of Thalia is different from how Rick Riordan pronounces it. He uses a short A in the middle (Thah-lia), I used a long A (Thay-lia). I believe I first got that pronunciation from the audiobooks, which are not always great about correct pronunciation. In my defense, various online sources do list Thay-lia as a valid alternative pronunciation, but from what I can tell, it's not the one the author intended.
While Persephone's affair with Adonis is not mentioned in the mainline books, Percy does give an account of that story in _Percy Jackson's Greek Gods._ So it did still canonically happen, it just never comes up in Percy's own story.
Persephone does, in fact, have some control over the forces of the Underworld. In _The Sword of Hades,_ she manipulates shadows to transport Nico to New York City, and splits the earth open to drop Nico, Percy and Thalia into her throne room. She is not just a nature goddess.
It's five thrones on either side, not ten. Clearly, I forgot to make my customary sacrifice to Athena before doing the math for that sin.
Artemis's preferred hair color is auburn, not black.

What's ironic about Hades, is that given that he's charged with ruling over the most miserable place in existence, and has the most motivation to be a villain,he's actually one of the most moral and honorable gods in mythology. Loves his wife, has a code of honor, and can be moved to charity with a simple love story. Compared to other gods like Hera who have everything, but still will lie, plot, cheat and murder for her own selfish gain.
Hades has a complicated relationship with his siblings as he's been charged with ruling over all of the souls in a world of people who are constantly dying, but it's completely understandable. He still doesn't hate them for it.
Side note that the movie missed that I loved in the book. The main reason the underworld was depressing is that the dead got exactly what they deserved, but for most of humanity, that was wandering aimlessly in a dreary field devoid of pleasure or pain, as they were content in life to accomplish nothing.

I agree with most of the points about Hera, except the cheating part. Most of her plotting and murdering was as revenge for Zeus cheating on her and siring demigod/godly children, because she’s the goddess of marriage and family. I’d agree with it way more if that was said about someone like Aphrodite, who does all of the above and can be vastly more petty than Hera. Just ask Psyche

As for Psche, she kinda had it coming tbh. As a princess she had the authority to forbid people to worship her. She didn't; causing Aphrodite's temples to fall into ruin because people started to worship Psycke instead. To make matters worse she then betrayed Eros trust and injured him to boot, leading to a now properly pissed-off Aphrodite comforting and tending to the burns of her distraught son. Another offence might simply be their marriage itself as they never got her blessing and married in secret; especially bad considering Aphrodite is the leader of the gods of marriage alongside Hera (and Zeus I think).

Second of all, whether or not you think Psyche deserved what Aphrodite did to her, you can’t deny that it was extremely petty regardless. Basically, the idea was that, since monsters are attracted to Wi-Fi signals, this was supposed to be Luke setting up a beacon for where camp is. Unfortunately, it’s only able to be taken as foreshadowing if you know that, and since it wasn’t explained in the movie, you’d have had to have read the book, and therefore KNOW THE TWIST, to catch the foreshadowing. It doesn’t make the movie better, and in fact, if I’m right, that makes the movie even worse.
36:04 BANISHED? *_BANISHED?_* THIS IS BEYOND INANE! The three brothers cast lots to determine who ruled what. Zeus got the sky, Poseidon got water, and Hades got the underworld. • @urbex_coasters
    @urbex_coasters Год назад +960

I blame Disney's Hercules for a lot of the inaccuracies in this movie. Think about some of the biggest inaccuracies and then look to Disney's Hercules:
-not understanding the difference between Hades and the pop culture version of Satan and the pure vilification of Hades (let's be real, there is no understanding of either among most people)
-the Hydra scene is an insert from Disney's Hercules
-use of Christian termonology and visuals (Hell being the underworld/Hercules praying)
Point is, a lot of paralells can be drawn. And now we just need to hope that the same company gets it right? To be fair given who is involved with the Disney+ series I do believe it will be good. It is ironic that we need to trust the studio that created this mess in the first place to fix it though.

I would argue that the depiction of the Underworld in Disney's Hercules seems more accurate than the one in the Percy Jackson movie. At least that one didn't look like the fire and brimstone type of Hell, but more like a vast area that could have both the unpleasant parts as well as the rewarding parts of the afterlife (even if they weren't shown). Also, I wouldn't blame the movie, so much as this was probably a perception many people had that didn't know the mythology. It certainly didn't help though.

Also "Inaccurate does not mean bad" made me wheeze laugh for a solid minute. Also, if Riptide was a click pen HOW exactly is she supposed to go back to pen form from sword? Is there another click thing on her counter-weight? And if that’s the case, that means the clicker switches spots because the clicker is in the same side Riptide’s sword point comes out of. Also, imagine you’re a pen clicker and you don’t get your thumb out of the way fast enough. Like, whoopsies, no more finger because I just accidentally SLICED it off!

A few days later at an AMC was the li'l "coming next year" teaser.
I asked and got confirmation this was on what she was working.
The first three books were in a box set so I acquired them. Halfway through the first book I quickly obtained the rest of the series. I also contacted Maria to clarify my suspicion she was playing Mrs Dodds. She confirmed, asking how I'd possibly know that. I told her I was reading the book series, and it was obvious that that would be the role for which she would be cast. 😉
On the more detailed trailer came out, focusing on Maria in the museum, I was thrilled that they clearly would be following the books.
I went to see it its opening day, and understandably was horrified at how off the source material they went after Maria's exit, let alone during her Furie scene, and her character not returning in multiple forms on the bus, etc. 😠

The episodic adaptation of Percy Jackson comes up this December with a, fairly, more accurate adaptation of the book so you can check that out with this idea. That would be a lot of fun. It's a great musical, but it definitely takes some liberties that would be fun to highlight in a more lighthearted way. But that might be a challenge to do since I'd have to work with bootleg footage.
I'll file that under "we'll see"

@CoolScratcher seriously. And not just damaging a good story, but like how do you manage to mispronounce not one but 3 character names
For God's sake it's a good thing he didn't get to do Book 2, or we'd have Azola, Ty Loi, and Tofu. Mai's name would be correct tho
and then he even mispronounces "Avatar" and "Agni Kai"

One thing I can disagree with the sin on is the "Sally Ugliano" it's likely either Gabe just didn't correct the last name said by the reporter because he's awful, or he disrespected Sally keeping her last name and only gave his last name.

I think my favourite review of this movie is "No hot biker dilf I f*cking hate it here".
Also I was unfortunate enough to see the movie first and I was downright pissed at how much better the book was. Taking liberties with an adaptation is fine, but that's no excuse for disrespecting the source material or making a shit final product.
Edit: Also I'm pretty sure mortals aren't allowed to even ride the elevator to the 600th floor, so Sally doubly shouldn't have been there.

I will never get over them being 17, driving everywhere they need to go and skipping the fight with ares. Which was always my favorite part because the spectacle of a 12 year old kid wounding the GOD OF WAR just seems silly no matter what his powers are lol i love it.

i will say, the law of gods not seeing their kids did exist but not until the heroes of olympus series which was years later chronologically, same with the introduction to charm speak, which would be the closest thing in the books to what medusa is implied to have in the movie, but she never did and charm speak is exclusively an aphrodite trait passed down to her children(though exceedingly rare which is why it wasn’t introduced until the 2nd series

Cool concept and love to see more, specially with the next Percy Jackson movie.
A good idea you could ad is to present drawings and illustrations of how characters and places look like in the books while describing them and maybe in some cases read quotes from the books themselves. That way you can add something new/ a unique touch to your series so it would be a bit different from the cinemasins format just in case someone doesn't start something by calling you a basic copycat or something.

Actually, Grover is supposed to look a little older, since he's 26 but matures slower than humans. He looks like he's been held back a year or two with stubble growing on his chin. And yes, the are versions of the Medusa myth where she and Poseidon were consensually hooking up, though in that version i believe it was on a field of flowers, not in Athena's temple. I believe the version where it was nonconsensual was written by the Romans years later. In the earliest stories, she was born a monster.
The hell hounds are also huge in the books, bigger than most people, and definitely bigger than regular dogs or wolves.
Also what Hades does to try to force Percy to give him the bolt and the helm is much more frightening then just "using the bolt against Zeus" he stops death.

I personally dont mind Percy already liking swimming before knowing who his father is, for movie purposes it does well to set up who his father is to new audiences who havent read the books and the scene they use does well to show Percy has always had abilities with water despite not knowing it himself, one adaptation i do not like and despise is the camp in the book the rooms for each half blood are said to be laid out in a U shape but all we get in the movie is some tents in the woods also also i dont like how they changed how quickly percy moves into the Poseidon cabin in the book he spends a night or 2 in the hermes cabin as that is where half bloods who dont know their father go
