- Halfway through power weapons now! In endgame PvE, swords are almost exclusively restricted to either Crota DPS or movement, and this tier list will focus on those two aspects when ranking from top to bottom.

I've been relatively unhappy with some of the issues with the current scoring/tiering system right now (for example, this list ignoring charge rate), so this is the last video I'll be making using the old scoring/tiering system - look forward to big changes in any subsequent videos as well as the lists for next season! :)
What do you think of the sword changes and new dungeon sword and the elemental affinity with banner and double damage perks?
If Other Half isn't in the S tier I will rapidly approach your house with shatter skate Aegis
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it [Heat Rises + sword heavy + jump + super + jump + air move + jump + air move]

@@flopre9213 if it was consistent maybe. But threadling spawns are so inconsistent.
honestly better with chain reaction and the strand fragment that makes threadlings on strand weapon kills, having a lot of fun using it with Banner of War and Precious Scars on titan @@flopre9213
@@WGG-01 Hatchling on non-precision weapons is 3 kills in a short window, not always trivial. Thread of Rebirth should give you one every 3 kills at most, fewer depending on enemy rank. Combine those and you should get a fair few. If you're in casual content Swarmers can help by making your threadlings do unravel, which makes it easier to spawn tangles, which spawn more threadlings. If you're in harder content that isn't really worth it compared to Stronghold (or, just, y'know, a good non-sword build).
Fr though I've been running it with chain reaction on a banner of war and unraveling titan build and its just stupid how fun it gets
hearing you put every relentless/whirlwind/surrounded adaptive in s-tier was like "that's right, it goes in the square hole!" meme
Not only is bequest have the most damage but it has the best charge rate of any sword by a mile. You can also craft it with enduring guard for 90 endurance. With The changes to swords this season a 0 stat guard resistance offers. 82.5% damage resistance. Add Max resilience with a 1 resist mod and this goes to 90%. The guard tanks a lot. Recharges fast. In ad dense situations its almost an exotic. Unrelenting for healing. Surrounded for damage.
Pretty sure deaths razor has a higher guard charge with infinite guard, since after like a second it's back at max, and unless you heavy it never drops while blocking
@@fala5764 Deaths Razor is only for Warlocks. Only Warlock swords and Worldline Zero have infinite guard.

absolutely THRILLING analysis, i really feel like i know all about uh. surrounded and whirlwind and relentless
I actually really like geodetic. Nadir is like discount eager edge but stays active longer once it's up. I prefer it over eager edge for the maze in crotas. I also really enjoy Hero of Ages with chain reaction for some reason. I'm not saying it's good but I like using it.
Hero of ages is pretty good for speedrunning
Unrelenting, chain reaction goes hard
I used it shortly after the whole crafting bug happened during that small window where eager edge and a bunch of other perks didn’t work and it actually was pretty decent
I literally use it for destabilizing rounds and volatile
another great video! would not have expected some of the swords to rank that high :D
imagine if the next swords are class specific exotics, or if it has some sort of gjalla/ratking/outbreak/ToM perk that makes it a viable dps option for close range bosses
i’d love to see exotics ranked in endgame pve next

The new nadir sword is great in lamps, getting a kill with destabilising and repulsor gives you free shields if you accidentally go into a thrall, also continuous swiped while grounded make each one an eager edge dash after 3
When grabbing the chest during lamps i am always faster then the eager users, just by spamming light attack with nadir. But everything else i prefer eager
Been using your tierlists to help me weed out my vault. So much old stuff in there that I kept cause of "what if it gets buffed one day". Haven't used most of em, ever. Plus nowadays it is so easy to get new weapons when they release + crafting.
P.S. middle click on your mouse opens the link in a new tab straightaway, no need to right click, and then select "open in new tab" from the context menu :)
You should do a play list with all this sweet info :)
I was laughing when reached the point where you were just saying "relentless, surrounded, whirlwind" . I felt your pain by the end of the video.
I stand by temptations hook. The heavy does a bit of damage over time but they did nerf it since you can’t purposely guard to use a weaker heavy attack for 1 ammo which was really fun to play with and rapid fire it
Solas with chain reaction really was decent for ad clear before the changes to how heavy attacks work... You used to be able to block for a second to make sure you charge bar wasn't full, so when you used your heavy attack, it would only consume 1 ammo and make a small projectile that would explode on a kill. Now it forces the full 5 ammo attack regardless which blows.
I think I just watched Aegis lose his mind and it made it the most entertaining tier list
Crown Splitter is S+++ I don't care what anyone says.
Awake loved one! New ageis video hath dropped!

Aegis thanks for these videos i will change up my loadout for sure oh and i subsciribed today .
that slip at the start was so clean aegrith

On another note: while obviously this is based on the current metagame and not historical power, I do want to shoutout Sola's Scar for coming in clutch for me one time. Chain Reaction swords were really rare back in S16, and we were struggling with Master Exhibition challenge. Match Game existed, and there were particularly tough solar shield enemies, and I was struggling to keep up with the add density without running out of heavy. Sola's Scar ended up being the perfect fit for the situation, able to wipe packs of adds with just a few light attacks, strip the solar shields, and still be useful if I was some distance from whatever I needed to kill. Plus being a sword helped correct jumping mishaps on the latter parts of the encounter.
These days I'd just use ability spam to deal with the situation, but hey.
Although thin precipice is not good for boss/champion damage it is worth noting that it can get unraveling rounds if you're running the fragment for it. Pair that with chain reaction in the second column and it being a vortex frame, you have an amazing ad clear sword.
I love my thin precipice. It's add clear is insane especially with a war banner titan
I like my original Bequest with Flash Counter. I haven't even bothered with patterns because the new version doesn't have Flash counter and I already have *_my_* god roll. Not the most optimal, it's just FUN.
It's still insane to me that bungie nerfed the hell out of swords then proceeded to buff linears and rockets and not even think about unnerfing swords, like swords weren't used a ton when they got nerfed because they were op but it was because heavy weapons were absolutely awful at the time in general.
I think swords were like 60% of PvE according to bungie for that nerf. It made sense honestly, but yeah it’s been 10 seasons, they could use some love
@@solkvist8668 it doesn't make sense. Cause bungie just looks at usage statistics as opposed to why things are that way. Like whirlwind blade got nerfed not cause it was OP but cause other sword perks were useless. Swords were 60% usage cause Grenade launchers just got nerfed into oblivion while rockets and linears were already just as bad and there was only like 4 machine guns at the time and they were even worse then all of those. Instead of buffing rockets first then seeing usage they just nerfed swords then buffed rockets after realizing everyone was still just using swords cause even after the nerf the other options were just so shit.
Best tier lists. The only thing, the weapon icons could use an edit to include their names, abbreviated of need be.
For some movement scenarios, Half Truths could be preferable to Other Half, if you want Tireless blade to retain ammo to kill things while movement-ing.
but purple is great😂
I'm gonna be honest I have never been in a situation where I've wanted Tireless for movement, I use the blue sword exclusively because I don't want two purples
Surprised nobody's brought up Stronghold yet. It's definitely not a relevant pick for the kind of content you engage in, but being able to have Restoration x2 on any Titan subclass is a huge addition that makes it incredibly worthwhile as a neutral tool. Stack that with Banner of War and Woven Mail on Berserker and you are functionally unkillable while you have sword ammo.
I wouldn't take it into a raid (maybe Crota's End if you can figure out a good Ir Yut strat with it), and obviously low mans and speedruns tend to require more specific loadouts anyway, but for stuff like solo dungeons and possibly GMs (I'm not brave enough to take it into a GM, but I'm aware some people do), it seems pretty potent.
With respect to this tier list, the main thing it does is increase the value of "guarding does X" perks like Valiant Charge and Counterattack, as well as Thin Precipice specifically due to Strand synergies (for example, you can throw on Thread of Propagation, powered melee kill something, pull your sword, and now it has Unraveling Rounds).
Thin Precipice kills (but only with this seasons perk) can also create tangles, which you use to get woven mail again.
@@gravity-arbor if you think that's cool, last season's artifact gave it basically 100% Unraveling Rounds uptime, which also made tangle generation easy and let you skip out on Propagation. It's part of what put Strand Stronghold on my radar in the first place (aside from just generally looking for more HP recovery options to pair with Woven Mail). Then we got Banner of War, and, well...
I’ve been using stronghold in gms and it has been op to say the least
pretty sure you can infinite tank the light blade boss with the right stronghold setup
@@benamende5897 You can tank any boss with stronghold
waiting for the day we get more eager swords, solar eager sword w incan/chain would be so fun on sol lock
Babe wake up new Aegis video!
Primaries and special weapons are so good along with outrageous perk combos on many different heavies have kind of power crept most swords for dps
I forgot to compare stats such as charge rate, which is probably the most important stat aside from impact
Question: using goldtusk as an example, the actual DPS value on your spread sheet between the 3L1H combo and all light attacks have nearly identical values with your largest difference between them being 4k dps. Not much in the scheme of things, but all light attacks has a higher total damage with better ammo economy. So wouldnt that make all light attacks much better in pretty much every way? Bequest is the same way but with a much bigger dps difference
Technically the best thing on Goldtusk by far is 1L1H aerial, I wouldn't bother touching it otherwise the DPS is too low
Swords were awesome for ad clear in D1, but our abilities and primary/specials are so much more powerful now than in D1
I am sad Half-Truths gets flak for not having realistic damage perks. Having Unrelenting (and an optional Chain Reaction that is craftable for an adaptive sword) gives this a bonus on any new player being able to survive and chain kills.
Admittedly, I'd trade Other Half and keep Half-Truths solely because of Unrelenting/Eager Edge (and because it's blue), but I can respect it's placement in B Tier, especially knowing this is for Endgame content. Very rarely would anyone be willing to take a sword into Endgame that isn't for slapping the hell out of whatever stands in our way.
Cheers for the rankings. Helping me to keep the vaults clean. 👍
I really think you're underselling Geodetic's movement capabilities. After 4 swipes you have eager edge-like distance swipes with 0 cooldown. Plus can be used as a decent sword damage option.
Bit niche perhaps, but definitely the better option for things like crota's abyss
For en garde you can do two light and one heavy. It also recharges VERY fast. I think it should be given more credit for melting majors and champions as well as DPS swap
En Garde sucks for swapping and on majors/minibosses you aren't typically using swords
Exotic weapon video? Oh boy I cant wait to see how well my amazing favorite top dps weapon Thunderlord dominates the S tier!
I have an old Other Half that will never be deleted because it has Eager/Surrounded.
The S tier of swords is truly the square hole of tier lists
I really can't say I agree with goldtusk being as low as it is. B is way more suitable. The damn thing competes with Bequest/Lament on crota and is consistent as hell which extends to pretty much ALL bosses you use swords for thanks to its perk pool.
It doesn't lol
My dude have you seen the numbers Goldtusk puts up in crota? Consistently unlike bequest which needs dangerous conditions to work? It outdoes lament. Granted right now this current season swords are a bit scewed thanks to Maestro making them look better than they are.@@TheAegisRelic

ty for a nice at a glance tier list. I've been vault clearing and typically with new seasons, i'll not tag new weapons until I use them. Then I notice i have like 5-6 swords piled up and I just find it unreasonable there are so many. This season gave us at least 3?? too many
i just want to say, with the right roll and using lucent blades correctly, guillotine is super ammo efficient and does hella damage
No vortex is ammo efficient they have abysmal total
I remember people calling me crazy for, at the time, having a level 51 Bequest. I sang the praises of how good it was, very few believed me.
All it took were a few well known D2 content creators to say how good it was for Crota and now a lot of people use it.
well, yeah, that's because it was really hard to justify a sword in general outside of Eager Edge, at least since the Falling Guillotine nerfs
@@life-destiny1196I use Renewals when using Bequest. Pairs so incredibly well for activities where there's no flying enemies.
Nightfalls, Seasonal activities or Lost Sectors especially.
there will be no Thin Precipice slander in this household lol
I use thin precipice for banner of war stronghold shenanigans, but I understand that's not the optimal usage of swords.
Blue is a better color than purple so half truths is better also tireless helps for when it randomly tracks onto an add because damage doesnt matter you literally are never using it for damage
Real as hell
falling guillotine and the lament are some of my go-to weapons in GMs for champion clearing 🤷♂️
This video prompted me to redo some sword testing I did a couple seasons ago and I came to some interesting conclusions. Do you have a channel in your discord where people can laugh at an insane man ramble about swords for 10 minutes just to use lament anyway because it’s better?
Haha I'm sure they won't mind
I know the Caretaker isn't the best at boss damage, but I'll be damned if it isn't fun to put enhanced incandescent on it and just turn into a blade of flame spreading explosions and mayhem as you scythe through ads. Lots of dopamine to be had there!
I can say that I've used razor's edge for one single thing: contest mode exhibition encounter, on voidlock
Honestly not a horrible place to use a non-eager sword
Isn’t adaptive heavy tracking dependent on fps? I recall seeing a demo where it was whiffing WAY less on 60 Vs 90
Oof no wonder I’ve had issues then lmao. I’m running like 200+ fps
All sword piercing is yeah
Mm for Aggressive frames I recommend SelFu as he has a lot of insight towards swords and strongholds. He does endgame PvE with them so he is really knowledgeable for Aggressives and their combos and such. He's good for that

I learned a lot from the intro actually.
A lot of people still use swords on dungeon bosses like echtar and Gahlran
I know it's bad, but I'm a little surprised you didn't say anything about Honor's Edge's Shattering Blade trait. It's at the very least unique amongst the bunch.
I talked about it on stream but it's definitely not relevant for current endgame PvE (people used to use it in Gambit because you'd get small amounts of heavy every wave)
This is so far what i understand
Solar surge: use lament
Arc surge: use bequest
Void surge: use lament or bequest (joking but i know ill be doing heartshadow for it personally not because its good just because i know i can still out dps my lfg group)
Heatshadow isn't weak either
When it came out it was weaker than Lament, but could easily compete with Falling Guillotine
but then Bungie nerfed it to the ground in S17 for no reason (the part with the weaken effect)
but this was buffed a bit again
Heartshadow also has the shotgun swap rotation which actually does respectable damage and can extend Tractor. My fireteam's tractor user usually pops burning maul to stunlock crota, so I run the Crotation and we 1 phase him pretty consistently with me usually being around the top dps (unless there's some wipe/completion screen number fuckery).

Hmm titans with swords on strand and the gloves, can use em in gms for evrything ad clear, boss damage, champs and so on.
Best swords for that are crown splitter, throne cleaver and lament.
Zephyr provides shatter damage like chill clip on rockets. Not sure if it makes up for the lack of a damage perk, even with fissures. Probably worth testing
It doesn't but luckily it has actual damage perks as well :P
I wonder what tier the eager edge swords will be in?
So it may be a bug but I ran crota several times with teammates running crown splitter and they said if you do the heavy attack while in the air it doesn’t consume all the energy so then you can immediately follow it up with another heavy doing massive dps. They were outputting somewhere between 3.5 and 4.5 mil every time just with their sword.
Doesn't noticeably increase DPS because it eats your third heavy
I feel as if Hero of Ages was downplayed by you by a LOT. I willingly run it as a main sword especially for my B-O-W titan. Having the whirlwind ability with demo and chain reaction is amazing.
Id love to have a sword meta again. Since most bosses are not really swordable now days I think it would be a good thing to buff. Mostly just buffing the ammo economy on heavy attacks and making caster frames good. Some day bungie will make a new caster frame... it's only been 10 seasons... Also it's time we get new guard perks. Or really just sword perks in general. I want a guard that reflects projectiles like the hive sword.
But if sword guard can reflect projectiles why would anyone use Blight Ranger?
... that physically hurt.
@@life-destiny1196even if we take your example it's still a super vs a sword.
Blight ranger is a fashion exotic anyways.
@@fotis3v480 I'm still salty it exists lol.
I was literally going to suggest a perk to the effect of "swords do more damage immediately after pulling them out" and then I learned En Garde exists and is horrendously undertuned.
Other perk ideas:
1. [Caster frame exclusive] Heavy attack projectile lingers for a few seconds
2. Using your heavy attack increases the damage your other weapons do for a few seconds
3. [Solar exclusive] Successive light attacks grant Cure and/or Restoration
4. [Vortex frame exclusive] Momentum from heavy attack lunge is preserved longer (the idea being you can spin2win through enemies that are a bit more spread out)
5. Guarding damage with your sword grants super energy
6. [Strand exclusive] Killing combatants grants Woven Mail for 2 seconds; dealing damage extends existing Woven Mail by 2 seconds
7. [Arc exclusive] While amplified, your lunge distance is increased
@@life-destiny1196If guarding sword gave super energy it would break the game, strongholds would be so meta
Infinite supers,
@@musicaltarrasque you'd probably have to do something about the stronghold synergy, yeah, but outside that I don't see it, considering that you'd have to give up a more generically useful heavy like a RL

On the rocket teir list i think a funny joke you could make is calling the semiotician the "forehead" rocket since it is literally just as easy to use as a field prep clown hothead
So the existence of surrounded on an adaptive sword with relentless and whirlwind is what separates S tier from C tier? And if you are on a boss or team that doesn't make use of surrounded, suddenly 5 different swords in C tier are now tied with 3 swords in S tier for DPS?
Adaptive frame is also important, almost all the S tier swords have Whirlwind as well
@@TheAegisRelic Is surrounded the only perk keeping adaptive DPS above aggressive? If not, then I don't understand why adaptive swords with relentless and whirlwind are lower than swords that have less DPS and no eager edge.

Aegis tier lists are build different. Unlike other opinion tier lists these are very helpful. I been trying to tell clan mates why certain weapons archetypes and perks are better. This simplifies that and is chaptered out to find specific weapon. The scoring system is well thought out and its consistent and data driven.
Did I miss something or you put honor's edge in B tier and then every other sword with the same perks and archetype in S tier?
it doesn't have whirlwind blade. the s-tier adaptives all have relentless + both whirlwind and surrounded
Almost feel like there should just be a "Bequest" rank above S as it's so straightforward, but this'll make for a useful resource in case anyone needs convincing :)

Hi aegis, old video but more or less the same order on the spreadsheet. I really do believe you should move goldtusk into B tier above some adaptives without surrounded namely Steel Sybil and Abide the return.
Lightweights have an identical damage profile to adaptives comparing light attacks but have a faster swing speed and higher reserves. Goldtusk also has a useful origin trait unlike these options above.
Please reconsider your placement or share what has held you back from placing the sword higher.
