- For the first cook on our new Pit Boss Ultimate Griddle, of course we had to do smash burgers! Everyone has been asking me if you can still get that good smash burger crust on the Ultimate Griddle’s non-stick ceramic coated griddle top, and the answer is… HECK YES!
Even on the first cook, these smash burgers with cheese were awesome! And the best part about the new Pit Boss griddle… clean up was a breeze!
Watch as I take you through my first cook on the Pit Boss Ultimate Griddle, from figuring out how to start it and preheat to how to clean it up in just one minute. Plus, I’ll show you the silicone spatulas that I bought to use for this flat top grill.
If you’re in the market to buy a Pit Boss griddle and you’re looking for reviews and first cook videos, check this out!

It cooked those burgers beautifully. Clean up was a breeze. Nicely done 👑.
I will be purchasing some type of griddle for the up coming season. The non stick intrigues me therefore, I am so glad to see you try one. How the top holds up over time is one of my questions.
After hearing your background, I knew your the one to follow. Thank you for your service!!
Thanks Ron. Much appreciated.
Great cook. I just got a pit boss. Can’t wait to use it. I had black stone. You do great job. I learning so much. Thank you
Thank you Karen
I recently purchased a Pit Boss Sierra and after the 5th use I’ve found that the flat top starts to stick and the best way to clean it is with. baking soda mixed with water and a rag. Great videos and you sold me on the Pit Boss non stick griddle. 👍
I just texted Adam from the Waltwins and he said the same thing. I did it and absolutely outstanding. How did you know to do it like that. I have to say to me so far that is a huge disadvantage. Bigger than I expected.
The Walltwins had mentioned that they were looking into a deep cleaning method but they hadn’t come out with a solution at the time explaining a deep cleaning solution. One thing my wife and I noticed is that all of the three burner Put Boss nonstick griddle videos on RUclips showed the discoloration in the center mid to upper portion of the grill. As my wife just said as I was writing this reply, “Bacon shouldn’t stick to an on stick surface when using avocado oil on low heat”. I just cooked on it this morning and same issues. Cool idea but needs a little more R&D on Pit Bosses end. Regarding the cleaning, my wife researched how to clean ceramic surfaces and backing soda was the best go to. Thanks again and keep those awesome videos coming and thank you for your service and God Bless you and your family. FYI, my wife has noticed that I have been using the term Bad Boy on a more regular basis these days.
@@stevebuchanan5618 wait till mamer jammer comes out. She will flip. Hahahha. I literally cooked a big breakfast this morning for a video and bacon is what pissed me off. Hard to get the fond off with out steam or an abrasive. Silicone just does not help when doing this. I tried to put paper towels on the end of my bench scraper to help from scratching the surface. It didn’t help with the stuck food. I seared pork chops with my standard greek seasoning yesterday and I thought i had ruined the surface of the griddle already because the fond stuck so bad. Now the baking soda got it looking brand new. But who wants to do that every time.
Thanks for the video. I too have been waiting on this video since in the market to buy. I was looking at the non-stick but also the rust resistance aspects. Mine would probably go for long stretches without use, so I wouldn’t want to raise the lid to a rusted mess. Even with oiling, I’ve heard the other griddles can still get some rust.
Also continue the interest in the utensils you find that will work.
I am doing a spatula video this week and that should help out.
Thank you for the video Neal 👍🏽 Can’t wait to make them.
Absolutely...so simple and so good...
What a great videographer you have!!! Almost like movie quality. You’re so lucky to have her!!!
I am for sure. We joke. Thats how she earns her dinner. 🤣🤣
I'm a cast-iron griddle apologist, but I gotta say that easy clean up at the end makes me envious, lol! Great looking burgers.
Yeah it surprised me as well.
Fabulous my friend!👌🏽Muchas gracias!!

Great video, thanks for the info. That's a nice griddle!
Thanks for watching!
Just bought my pit boss ultimate griddle....cannot wait!!!

Awesome video, thanks for sharing ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for watching!
I knew it was gonna have that beautiful crust on it ,Nice job man .
Thanks Chris.
I love the excitement and enthusiasm!!!!
Much appreciated
That's a mighty fine looking crust on the patties. EZ clean is nice.
Pulled the trigger and purchased the 4 Burner this afternoon. Can't wait to get it set up and smash some burgers!! Loved the video!!
I have a video that shows how I messed up mine...check it out and make sure you have all the correct information before using it...
Excellent! I'm excited to see the cooking on the Pit Boss! Pick up some silicone/plastic board scrapers, I use on my indoor electric guy, and they work. Won't harm that ceramic!
Thanks for the tips! send my a link. I have looked but haven’t pulled the trigger yet
I am looking forward to picking up the same griddle. It looks like it is easier then the Camp Chef and Blackstone. Me and my wife are amateurs. Looking forward to learning from you both. Keep up the great work! I would love if you can recommend some durable and sturdy silicone spatulas. Especially if they are longer like the twin metal ones people use on the metal surface grills. I hope that made sense. Thanks again!
We will be doing a spatula video this week.
Love the taste test 😋
Thank you for sharing your experience your family life that's special.. I'm a dad of four daughters and I outdoor cook on grill and burners but flat top is new I gave up until watching your videos ..thank you for all your tips and how you explain everything thank you again keep rockin much love and appreciation... could you do cordon Bleu video
Yes I can. I am planning on a twist on it though. Maybe a cordon blue sandwich on a brioche bun. Much Appreciated for the kind words

Sounds fire thank you
LoL, I didn't wait long enough! Good video
Great video as always!
Thanks Bryan.
It looks great!
Your genuine excitement has me so hyped to unbox mine tonight! You earned a sub from me bud!
Thanks Brother. Welcome to the family. I just posted a steak house dinner video and you want to see exciting that dang potato dish was out of this world.
I use the same spatulas for my non stick pans. I love them.
Awesome. Thanks for commenting
My son got me that three burner royal gourmet portable griddle because we were talking about my homemade corn tortillas (way better than store bought).
But from the videos I've seen people have used metal spatulas on it. But whatever as long as I can do my tortillas that's all that counts for me.
Burgers looked good!
I can understand that. Everyone has that breaking point. I will use silicone for now. Pit Boss is supposedly making a silicone line especially for this.
I loved this very informative video. Take care, Niel.
Glad it was helpful!
Love seeing the differences, but I took up the flat top grill for the experience,as a semi form of art. I wanted to learn and perfect the griddle experience…and that includes how to cook on a seasoned grill…if I just wanted to cook without “the mess” I would buy a Teflon coated Pit Boss. Just my opinion…
Always preheat on low. Even cast iron can warp when going from cold to screaming hot. And remember you can also always season something with a ceramic coating.
TY
I have been getting the same results with mine. Insanely delicious!
Awesome. Its amazing how negative some people are about this. Its like if the smash burger is not 100 percent perfect than the whole unit is crap. I am like dang there is so many things that this thing can do why is that the only thing that is important unless you only cook smash bugrers every time.
@@TheFlatTopKing keep the faith!
So far, so good. When Amy gave us a peak of the flames it looks like that left burner is a larger U shape (?) than the other two on the right that look like typical straight/single tube. Might be why you got a little more toast on the buns than usual. It will be interesting to see if that makes you change up how you "park" cooked food for holding. That easy clean up is impressive and that good sized drain hole looks easy to work with (I prefer the grease catch can be in the front, like this one, for easy monitoring).
100 percent correct on all points. Thanks Bob.
A man of your word, after watching this, just order the 4 burner. I am in the U.K. will be delivered end of March. Cheers!!!
Well That is much appreciated. What platform did you order it through. Amazon or the actuality home page
Great video. I have a 22" Blackstone for camping but want a larger griddle for home. I'm looking forward to your ceramic test drives to help me decide what is right for me.
I have to admit I miss the steel spatulas clanging together though.
Edit: I vote for Cheesestakes nest.
That is definitely on the list. I miss the metal as well but honestly i didn't think about while I was cooking. Just different rent know doubt
Thank you for the video I am going to buy a griddle one question is after a while my non stick pans that I use in the kitchen become worn out what I am talking about is the pan isn't as non stick as when it was new will the same thing happen with the pit boss?
Well I think so...still to early to notice...alot of information is changing based on experience with these...treat just like an inside skillet...clean with soap and water, use oil only when deeded and dont oil after every use
Okay so I watched this video three times in a row awesome video! I have a black stone e series 22-in griddle that I use inside the house. The griddle top is non-stick just like this pit Boss is. Also Blackstone sells e series silicone spatulas if you haven't already seen them. They're like $25 at Walmart comes with two spatulas and one set of tongs. Can't wait to see more cooking reviews and what's your final thoughts are on this pit Boss
Awesome Adam Thanks buddy
Dang that looks good!
Love a good smashburger...
I did it just like this and it was the real deal thank you
TY for trying it out and giving feedback...
Good video Neil, you make it look pretty good how long will the coating on the griddle last ? Also it won't rust outside I think. THANK you Frank from montana...
No clue. But we are going to find out. Thanks Frank
You just decided for me which griddle I am going to buy. It was between this and a Blackstone. The thing I like about this one is that the cover opens and closes like a regular BBQ grill!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Have u seen my two recent videos.
Things to consider before you buy a flat top grill and pros and cons of the Blackstone camp chef and pit boss.
@@TheFlatTopKing ..yep, I did. I don’t think there is a Blackstone that has a lid that stays on while ur cooking like the Pit Boss. Have you seen one? Also the clean up on the Pit Boss was super easy with that surface!!
@@fordaeromax Blackstone has a lot of lids that stay on. Mine has it as well. I just take mine off for videos. Different models have different options.
@@TheFlatTopKing ....Oh, ok. I have only seen a couple Blackstone's that have covers, but I thought they were put on and take off and not actually attached. But I still like the Pit Boss for that coating on the griddle and easy clean up. It looks as though you wouldn't need a pumice stone for those either, compared to the steel surface on the Blackstone.
@@fordaeromax 👍🏻. Jyi i have been griddling for 2.5 years and have had a pumice atone. Not swaying your decision at all just getting all the info out there for you to make the best decision
Outstanding video's on this product. I am buying one right now from camping world.
there ya go....get to cooking...its addictive
I just love smash burgers, you cant beat em 👍👍👍😎🇬🇧
Absolutely...doing one soon
Now I’m smashing burgers this weekend. I have a Cuisinart 360 round griddle. I love it.
Smash em good. Get that crust and pile em high
I hope nothing but the best for companies. I also hope that the finish stands the test of time. I still have my 22 inch and 30 inch cast iron for the kitchen stove so there may be a 36 in my future
Awesome only time will tell.
Looking forward to one of these, so tired of my blackstone rusting unless I use it 3x week
Yeah there is definitely an advantage
Great video. Looks like a great product. It was neither a "Flop or Fail". LOL. I use a wood spatula to scrape the tough stuff off. They sell a bamboo version at the Dollar Store.
Thanks for the tips! Are you worried about messing up the coated surface. I was upset this morning that i could not get the fond off
@@TheFlatTopKing I have used them on Nonstick for years without a problem. I will message you some pictures on IG.
Great videos!! Got my new 4 burner ceramic today, there seems to be a spot where food seems to stick it's towards the back, if you put your hand between knobs 3 and 4 about 6 inches before you hit the back of the griddle, that's where it is. I noticed you seem to rub the paper towel a little more in that same spot too, do you have the same thing on yours? It also seems to get hotter than the areas around that spot. Please let me know, I'm thinking about contacting PIt Boss to complain and possibly get a replacement hot plate but if you have the same thing on it, it might just be the way it is. Thanks!
Well honestly I dont know, since then I have purchased wooden spatulas and love em. The food comes off so much easier. I will pay attention to that in the future. TY
So, when your cleaning the burners are off and your using the residual heat to clean the surface, correct? Also recommendations for burn treatments during a cook?
The first part is correct...Just make sure the griddle is not too hot though...Dont want to pour a ton of water on a screaming hot griddle.
The second part I will not answer...I am no where near giving medical advise..
of course there are "home remedies"but nothing really has worked for me. That crap is HOT and Hurts
Never going to beat cast iron for smash burgers. End of.
However, the maintenance-free cleaning of this grill is second to none!! Add in the lid and being able to get this in the UK? I'm nearly sold. Quite fancy the 5 burner one for some party cooks. The only thing putting me off is how long that ceramic coating will last. Stainless or not steel, will last forever.
Loving the videos.
Thats Definitely the question...how long will it last
Never used parchment paper to make a smashed burger. Now after I use it all the time. The dang burger always stuck to the bottom of my spatula. Thanks man!!!
Absolutely
Newbie on the griddle! I did my breakfast sausage that way, and it was awesome! I gotta git me sum burger!
that great...welcome to the family bud...reach out if we can help
Oh no! You should've put those goodies on top of the cheese. But Dang, that griddle looks like a winner. Hopefully by Christmas, I'll replace my cast iron griddle (for some things) for one like that. Thanks. Great info
Thanks Brad.
I liked that demo, a lot. However, having my good 'ol Webber Charcoal 22" kettle, the FTG600 and planning on a new Camp Chef 24" Woodwind with side sear, I'm not really in the market for another griddle despite how nice that Pitt Boss is. I see some real advantages to that unit, if I was still in the market I would have a harder time deciding on which unit to purchase. As usual, another home run video from The Flat Top King!
All great options mark. Cant argue with any of those options.
Great job. My decision has been made on weather I want a Blackstone or a Pit Boss. Pit Boss is definitely the winner.
I do have a video that is titled How I messed up my griddle...so before you buy and use check it out so you don't make the same mistakes
@@TheFlatTopKing ~ Before I start my first cook I definitely will check out your video. Thanks for the advice.
Some awesome looking smash burgers Neal! (I’m way behind on watching videos.) they definitely had that crust. I’m always curious about how the wind affects the flames. Great first cook on this Pit Boss. Clean up looks simple too! Cheers brother!
It has definitely been different on all questions. hopefully in a couple of weeks I can answer more of them

Fingers crossed! We shall see heck who honestly knows. I definitely aint taking it easy thats for sure
Yeah... That's the question. I just use a baking steel on my outdoor grill and we know that'll be around along with cockroaches after the nuclear Armageddon 😎

Really nice!! Just purchased it here in Germany 😀 would be cool if you could show some breakfast recipes.
I just posted a big breakfast a few days ago. Check it out.
What about raising racks and domes, will they damage the ceramic surface?
I just filmed a breakfast video today that should be up on Tuesday discussing this exact topic.
are you still liking the fish spatula that you used in this video? receiving my 3 burner PB tomorrow and am looking for something like this. wish we could use the metal ones but dont want to ruin the ceramic. thank you
I dont. I honestly have not found a absolutely no brainer when it comes to spatulas for this. I use metal at my own expense and it’s started to show just a little. That also could be not knowing how to clean either when i got it. Its my biggest frustration today…. What to use on it
the spatulas you recommend often go out of stock. i had to buy my set 3 weeks apart checking daily but the link does eventually go back to the white handled spatula when its in stock
I will be doing a spatula video tomorrow and should be ready for this later this week. Hopefully it helps
This looks amazing! That grill area seems a bit small, but the cook looked great.
Yeah, Pit Boss didnt asked what size I wanted so surprise. They have even bigger. They have the 4 and 5 burner as well. I actually wanted the 2 burner because so many viewers say the have a 2 burner. I felt like I could relate more with them. But once found the Air Fryer Combo I couldn't resist. Plus I already have a 4 burner on my camp chef so it kinda is the sweet spot. I always say, Get the bigger one it you can. You always need the extra space.
Congratulations on the first cook! It looks good but I won't be switching anytime soon.
Nice! I was curious about the crust but it looked great. Wonder how it would do with a good marbled ribeye?
Good question.
Fantastic. Not an issue.

@@TheFlatTopKing Super Dope, i cant wait 👌
Been waiting for this one. Great video. Glad you enjoyed it. 🙃 Edited to add, if you get some of those spots that stick, a little bit of water from the spray bottle goes a long way.
Thanks for the tips! So just to recap. Are you saying that if i have sticky spots, just to clean with water.
Do you add oil before or after to your griddle.
@@TheFlatTopKing Yeah I just use some water while still hot and it takes up anything that has "stuck" to the griddle. I have also been adding a small coat of oil after each use, haven't had any issues, even with the sticky sugary sauces. Still learning this beast myself. Depending on what I am cooking I put a little fat/oil/butter down before cooking just not as much as needed on the old rolled steel.

Thanks for the video, can you still get a crust without using oil? I'm still concerned the crust wasn't what I've seen you do in the past. You need more cooks on this
I dont think it was 100 percent like my camp chef. but 90 percent yeah. That is good to me. The reason why i added oil because after every use I would have done the same with my camp chef so i wanted it to be as similar as possible. I definitely still need some more time on it to give goods and bads. But behind the scenes i have been extremely impressed
Thinking of getting the Pit Boss 3 burner Sierra.
What do ya think?
Not sure how much you have followed me or my channel ....i have many updated videos about this griddle....from 6 month review....to how I messed up my griddle....I would encourage you to watch those before buying so if you decide you dont make the same mistakes I did
Well done...
TY
Debating on the 3 burner or the 4…any difference or what would you recommend and why?
4 4 4 4 4 4 4 burner I have said from day ! bigger is better unless you just have to have smaller...so many options open up...being able to move food over to one side, pots and pans...I have tons of videos that I say this in....100 percent 4 burner but thats up to you on what you see yourself using it for as well..you can give more info to see if i change my mind
Can you recommend a infrared thermometer for griddling
Yep… i have the links listed in the description below. I use the same one i started with. On the same battery as well. Almost 2 years.
So can you use metal utensils without damaging it or only use silicone?
I get asked this alot and here is my response...Metal Utensils Response -
This is definitely a hot button topic... And my answer would be that you have to use metal utensils AT YOUR OWN RISK. The actual Pit Boss Ultimate griddle manual says "non-metallic utensils". I know of a handful of Ultimate griddle owners that have been using metal utensils on their griddles for a while and they've said that there hasn't been any damage... but like I said, you have to use at your own risk - I'm sure that Pit Boss probably won't replace your griddle top for you if you damage it with metal utensils. Also, there's a difference in the types of metal spatulas... my preferred spatula has rounded ends and does NOT have the sharp beveled edges all around. That's the spatula that I like for my other griddles as well. I would never use a square ended, beveled edge spatula on mine. Also, you'll notice that I still use a wooden scraper/spatula to actually scrape down the griddle surface (NOT a metal bench scraper like I use on my other griddles). There’s also the difference in being a more seasoned/experienced griddle user… I feel confident using metal on mine because I’ve been using griddles for over a decade (both commercial and residential flat tops) - so I know not to dig into the surface, how to use the utensils to not cause damage, etc… Hope that helps!
I didn't see a flop or fail u r the king
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What did you mean when you said you don't have to worry about the residual heat as much? What is the concern with residual heat?
I meant that residual heat is leftover heat... So with the Camp Chef flat top grill, it has a heat plate underneath the griddle that I feel like makes the griddle surface hotter for longer, even after you turn it off. So when you're cleaning it after you're done cooking, you have to be careful because the griddle could still be really hot, even though it's off. That's the only concern... not to burn yourself while cleaning.
What brand of spatula do you use that won’t melt
I made a video shortly after this. Its titled what spatulas to use for each griddle.ruclips.net/video/aImEShljDYs/видео.html
I tried this today and mine did not clean as easily. Wonder if i had the heat to high.
If you are referring to the Pit Boss Ceramic Coated steel griddle...we dont recommend using HIGH at all...although it says it can handle the heat..over time we have found its extremely hard on it...If you think about deep frying potatoes typically you are at 350 to 375.....So a griddle about 425 will work....
A cheesesteak is a nice challenge for that pit boss. Considering you would normally chop the meat on it.
I agree 100 percent. I think i might have a game plan.
I wish I would have waited a couple of months. Every review on them Pit Boss ceramic tops have been good
Sell yours and jump on board. I haven’t cooked enough to give a great opinion but so far i have been incredibly impressed. I will let the videos show the proof.

Can you use metal utensils at all? They say not recommended? Been thinking about getting one myself but was concerned about the ceramic surface.
I think it is like anything, Can / or should could be misinterpreted. I personally will not use metal. I have not had a problem yet with silicone. I do miss the banging and clanging though.

Things to consider when buying a flat top grill
and
Pros and Cons Blackstone. Camp Chef and Pit Boss.
Information could be useful.
Great info, love the easy clean up . Chicken wings everybody likes wings
Close. Going to try chicken fried rice. I do have a chicken wing video on my camp chef. I will put on the list for my pitboss
You're a likeable guy. Thanks for the videos.
Glad you like them! I appreciate that
Finally used my Pit Boss portable tabletop 2-burner griddle that I got from my daughter for Christmas today.
First on the menu were smash burgers and oh my word, hands down better than traditional grilled burgers!!
Also, if you're familiar with migas then I'd like to see you make this meal sometime soon!!
That is awesome! Let our community know. They think no way. I do not know what that is. Please describe for me.
@@TheFlatTopKing It's a simple breakfast dish that can also be served for lunch or dinner, very popular here in south Texas. Basic two ingredients are fried corn tortilla pieces mixed with eggs. Add salt to taste topped with shredded cheese. You can also add diced onions and peppers but keeping it simple is the way to go.
@@redbirdsjunkie i will look it up. Thanks
@@TheFlatTopKing I went YOLO and made them for lunch for the first time, nailed 'em.
Did your spatula’s hold up to the heat after scraping with it?
Yes i will be filming a spatula video today to kinda shed light on the whole silicone thins.
My Blackstone is non-stick as well. And I don't have to use a special spatula. It's like cooking in a cast-iron skillet. I don't even own a Teflon skillet.
Yeah it is definitely not for everyone but there are some who would enjoy it and that is why I decided to branch out for a different option.
Just watched the salad bar chicken video, the wife's favorite breakfast video and the salt brine or not steak video!! All good ones again, especially the chicken!! GREAT IDEA using the salad bar. One quick question....the 3 silicone spatulas in you hand in this video.....can you put the links where you bought them. I have been checking out amazon and am seeing all kinds of stuff. I'm going to go pick up my Pit Boss today. Just happens to be $100.00 off on sale this week at Canadian Tire (retailer here in Canada). Regular price $799.00, this week $699.00 Thanks again!!
yeah the links should be in the listed in description below along with a lot of other things i use...thats for the support..
How long do you cook it on each side?
Thats a tuff one to answer...your looking more for color than time...How long has way to many factors..how hot...how thick. how thin. how big. temp outside ect...I would est about 5 to 7 min on the first side and once flipped not long. The burger almost cooks 80 percent through on the first side
Fajitas!!!!!! Tortillas!!!!
Yep on my list
I'd like to know how it wears over time. They better be a lot more durable than the non-stick frying pans. LOL!! Loving my seasoned steel griddle and not worried about scratches.
Yeah the will last longer that those..this is ceramic and not teflon...huge difference..this is a substance baked in..like other brands that have very successful ceramic skillets..these do not have teflon made...how long they hold up...no clue...we shall see..8 months from this original video and still going strong
Been watching you flat top kings! Also been trying everything you show. I would like to have a hat!! Keep cooking bud!
I think you lose a bit of cooking surface because of the grease trap, also how well does the far left side heat up since the burner is not all the way to the edge or close?
Cheese steak should be next my vote!
ALL that is something I am still trying to figure out. Cheese steaks are definitely on the list.
The left side burner is rectangular to get over to the left end of the griddle.
