Great comparison, Matt. Both burgers have their place, and both are fantastic. If I cook a regular patty, it's over charcoal, but on my Blackstone smash burgers all day long. As for the mayo, that's a big hell yeah from me. Awesome video, brother 👍

I think I saw a smashburger in the movie falling down. The Whammy burger was smashed and Michael Douglas was upset.
Instead of parchment paper use Reynolds non-stick aluminum foil. Saw this tip elsewhere and just happened to have a roll. Wrap your press in foil dull, non-stick side down. Works great. Will do all your burgers without fumbling with parchment paper.

Well Hussey, I have to say that I'm a SMASH burger guy. I wont turn down a thick or regular burger but a SMASH burger with Dukes mayo, pepper Jack chees and some onions, is a delight for me. Thanks for the video and GRIDDLE ON DUDE.
Smash all the way but they need to be fresh off the griddle and not on as long as a thick burger. I get timing and all while also trying to freshen the content. You are on the right track for me anyway.
Love the smash burgers. Kinda funny, just realized in the 4 years of owning a flat top , I never even thought of doing a regular burger on it. I always have done regular burgers on charcoal or pellets. Another great video, thanks.

Cool vid Matt! I think they both have their place. In NY we call the fat ones Pub Burgers, and that's what I grew up with. Still love them! But, a smashburger has its place as well. I guess I'll vote "3"... Both!

I still enjoy a regular burger on the Blackstone. I enjoy the crust on both side of the burger and some seasoning in the burger meat. Honestly both are a winner! Nice test and testers.

It always is a big fight subject among people. I personally enjoy both but I always lean towards making smashburgers. I also like that Lacey crust on the outer edges. But I won't turn down a regular burger either any day of the week.

I mostly cook burgers when camping on a small charchol grill. I always buy frozen burgers, just for convenience of the patty made already. Bjt i think i w0uls want a smash burget if i had a flat top grill

I like both. I know CookOut offers the big double burger (2 small patties) or the Regular burger (1 thicker patty) and I get both. I do like more crusty crunch with a smash burger and they are also better for people who don’t like pink.

I like both. I'll even take it further to say I really like those Oklahoma onion burgers. Man just like bacon makes things better so does a super thin sliced sweet onion caramelized perfectly onto the smash burger patties.

have you tried putting the mayo on before you toast it? ive seen others do that and they say it makes it better
I have. I do different things. My preference, I like butter. Sometimes I just like a steamed bun, no toast. I'm not pro one way or another really.

Not to be mean, it works best if you season the burger after smashing it.
Not mean, just your opinion which is fine. I’ve done it both ways to be honest it’s not noticeable.
I like crispy well done burgers so smashed all the way for me.

My wife and I both like the smash burgers I guess it’s the crispy crust it creates when it’s cooking. My wife likes it because it is not as much fat in the burger I like it too cause I like that crunch, but will you also make the regular burger’s.
Truth be told, rest of my family like a regular burgers. I only smash them when I'm doing something on my own.

@@thehungryhussey You said you would normally make it differently but tried to keep it as similar as possible to a regular patty re: weight and cheese. It's a comparison between the two styles; they are supposed to be dissimilar.
I just can’t with the ubiquity of the Smashburger lately. It’s gotta look like it came from a cow in the center of the burger or I’m not all that interested. (unless it’s 3 AM or something).
Give me a patty melt medium that’s my go to .
I flounder on this all them. I'll eat a smash and be like "ohh, this is right"... Then I'll get a big boy and be like "ohh, this is right".. Haha... I think I just like burgers.

Wow Jacob no bacon that should be a state law. I like both kinds of hamburgers but l would pick the smash burger🍔 because it's easier to put some double cheese and BACON and other ingredients and it's easier to bite on it. And the favor is great.

The juice is really the fat. Water is actually unwanted with cooking meat actually. Really you're cooking the burger in its own fat.
i prefer a good old fashioned freshly ground regular burger.
