I think they don't want to call them highlighters because we as customers already have a bunch of highlighters and it's easy to skip buying another highlighter. If they call it something else, they are inventing a whole new category of makeup that might catch our interest and make us spend money to test it out.
Spot on!
Exactly what I was coming here to say!
Bingo!
I also think brands love coming up with all these new terms and words to describe a glow it gives the consumer buzzwords that attracts their attention
I agree because I haven’t bought highlighter in years because I don’t wear it, but rare came out with the beaming “blush” and I bought it😅 which is funny because if I were to get a highlighter, I usually never go for a pink one
This video proves why I freakin love ur makeup videos so much more than other you tubers. You really analyze the markets and trends in general instead of just pushing PR. Along with ur knowledge- the addition of ur wit makes the videos super entertaining as well. Brains and beauty - thank you.
I've gotten so bored of makeup content that I've unsubscribed from everyone except Kelly. Kelly offers way more interesting content via these analysis-style videos.
she is smart no doubt.
Jenlovesreviews is also another amazing and honest one that I love!❤
I think the lack of brand loyalty is why every single brand is coming out with the same product. yes, we could get those bronzing drops from another brand, but every brand wants us to buy it from THEIR brand, so they have to make alllllllll the same products to encourage people to buy just their brand.
By not saying the product is a highlighter it suggests that the product is something more revolutionary and original than it actually is. Pure marketing nonsense 😒
The new Hourglass powder is actually $54 and not $48. They increased the price in one day. A lot of people are upset online about it. Just a FYI.
Who else is over 35, saw the CT perfumes and was instantly transported back to the Bonne Bell perfumes of about 1998?! They were called Bottled Emotion and had different colored bottles like those with names like playful, flirty, lucky, shy, crazy. 😂
I would have expected CT to come out with perfume packaging that matched her magic cream packaging - gold and crystal- higher end looking. These remind me of the parfum body sprays you could get at the drugstore in the 90’s. There’s a scent for everyone and they are each a different color 😂
Her first perfume Scent of A Dream has a very recognizable bottle. You know at least it's trying for the Old Hollywood vibe.
@@lipstickzombie4981 Ahh, that’s exactly what I was expecting! I haven’t seen that one before. It makes sense she’s doing something new, and it will be interesting to see what they look like (and smell like) irl.
Same! These names seem like body mists. I would have loved to see rose gold and crystal 1940s-1950s nostalgia in the packaging and names that sound more sophisticated.
I was expecting a perfume called 'Darling'😂
At least CT didn’t make a Pillow Talk perfume 😂 shes just keeping up the "magic" theme of her skincare. But they are priced too high
This just gave me the thought - "Pillow Talk" pillow mist! Why haven't she came up with this yet? 😁
I’m surprised she didn’t….
LMFAO “creepy perfumes” has me weak 🤣😭
Those Charlotte Tilbury perfume names sound like something they’d make up on Parks and Rec or 30 Rock.
The names they chose, for $150? No way. This can’t be real.
The way my dinner almost wound up in my lungs when you said those embarrassing Charlotte Tilbury perfumes were $150!! If you'd showed the picture and said they were the new body splashes from Claire's I would have believed you in a heartbeat 😂
Brand loyalty is dead because brands keep discontinuing staple products
My friend and I were just talking about how brands are trying to sell us more of a lifestyle now! You make an excellent point about it being to drive brand loyalty. I always look forward to your commentary on new products and trends!
Regarding Charlotte Tilbury - I feel like her brand felt cheapened for me when they did that “who stole the lipstick” campaign. It felt very childish and not how I had been associating Charlotte tilbury. Although I’ve also never been the biggest fan of anything aside from their lipsticks.
Also, omg that whole merch thing, didn’t even think about that. I love when you add the commentary about marketing and trends. It gets me thinking. ❤
"Glowy liquid things" 💯🤣🤣 So many being brought out ever since Elf Halo Glow
Charlotte Tilbury was my favorite brand but lately I think that they launch too many products and the packaging looks cheap but the prices aren't. Also I agree with you about the parfumes the packaging is ugly! Who wants that on their vanity 😂
let’s be real the packaging looks like a butt plug lmao
Agree they don’t feel luxury anymore
I bought several different brands during the Sephora and 2 Ulta sales. I would agree that I have no brand loyalty, just brands I'm turned off from
When I look at those CT perfume bottles all I can see is the fairy Godmothers from sleeping beauty!
It’s the fairy godmother from Shrek for me
I think merit is todays glossier and they very much do sell a lifestyle. The minimalist.
The only merch I’ve ever been tempted to buy is the glossier sweatshirts. They are so cute!!!
And Made well! Mine has literally stood up to my hot mess of a life and looks brand new years later!
I recently saw an absolutely GORGEOUS woman at the grocery store with a glow recipe sweatshirt. I didn’t even know they MADE sweatshirts until then
Yeah they're trying to get away from the blinding highlighter so they're using every other word lol. I mean yeah I want the more subtle glow now but I know a highlighter can do that as it could do blinding 🙄
13:43 I actually used to be very brand loyal but I think as Sephora and Ulta came along it encouraged me to try different brands.
On the highlighter note kinda reminds me of there was a minute when highlighter was all the rage everyone started saying strobe powder/creme and then I think people gave up and it went back to being called highlighter
There is absolutely no way on earth im buying that bottle!!! Knowing my luck, i would love the one called "more sex" and people would ask me what im wearing 😂 no thanks!! Nars also makes me gag with the ridiculous names...easy pass
GIRL spot on! the influencer product launch instagram posts, they look like these incredible events but way cheaper than paying for across the media advertising
I did a side by side review with the elf and revolution bronzing drops, as suspected they’re basically the same but the blush toned one from Revolution is lovely for a warm rosey toned liquid blush I think they’re more of a unique product than just the bronze tone! ✨
Another great video! You’ve nailed this series on the beauty industry and I love it. Years ago there wasn’t Sephora or Ulta and I shopped at makeup counters so brand loyalty was easy. Now there are too many brands to count and most of them easily accessible. All the brands pump out new products so often it’s hard to be loyal to a product or a brand. I get sucked in to the new stuff. There are few products I repurchase regularly. I laughed at the phone case and the dog toys, but have to agree with you, it’s brilliant marketing on their part.
Oh man the loyalty thing is so true! When I was younger I lived and breathed for the Clinique bonus time. My grandma loved them so I did too. Oh the nostalgia! I’m not a normal makeup consumer (I want as few things as possible so get the job done I don’t like to explore lol) but I’m loyal to the brands I know work and that are cruelty free. And for anyone looking for the ultimate subtle highlighter… essence is the best powder and Salt New York is the best cream especially for fine lines. I always enjoy your commentary Kelly! 🙌🏼
I love the halo glow from elf. I wish they would keep that formula and take out the sheen. I’d wear it everyday
I was super excited when I heard that Charlotte Tilbury released perfumes but when I saw the bottles and I read the names I got so disappointed 😔
The CT bottles are saying 1960s Avon to me.
lol
What are you wearing on your cheeks ? Your complexion looks so glowy and pretty.. what products are you wearing ? Please do a tutorial of this look. Beautiful pinky glowy cheeks
Love your take on this weird “don’t say it!!” highlighter trend!!
Ok so the re promotion reminds me so much of a story- I was working for a hospital and for a "nurse's week gift" we got a license plate border and a shopping bag. Seriously; let's insult nurses with a gift of advertising for us. Mine went in the garbage I was so mad.
Have you seen the Serena Williams makeup brand? I saw it in Ulta and thought it looked more like skincare packaging than makeup. I’m so over celebrity brands. The market is saturated and I’m tired of it 😂
Well here’s the thing…..celebrities aren’t forcing or demanding for us to buy their products, nor is there a rule or law stating that you need to buy their products. You don’t have to buy from any of them if you don’t want to, however not every makeup brand is owned by a celebrity.
Agreed- tired of making the rich richer and us poorer
As if she hasn't made enough money, and married a billionaire.... how much more money do rich people need??
Exactly..already rich, married a Billionaire, and still looking to make more money...why do the need soooo much???
Anyone still remembers the Charlotte Tilbury perfume that launched in year 2 into launching her brand? It was advertised with Kate Moss so I blind bought it. It was the most unsophisticated grandma smell that I’ve ever sniffed. I managed to sell it on eBay thankfully.
Was it scent of a dream? I remember those ads!
@@erinkoster8654 yes I think so! Now I remember that I put it on eBay a couple of years later but actually it didn’t sell, so I just threw it in the bin. 🤣
I never understood the appeal of it - it was sooooo heavy. Reminded me of my grandmothers perfume EL’s Youth Dew
I'm so glad I found your information on the new rare beauty blush. I have mature skin and some texture that just doesn't play well with anything that is a glowy powder.
Oh, god, I just recently started looking at perfumes and fragrance mists again as a way to incorporate some more self-care into my life. I think the one higher-priced makeup brand that I actually bought a fragrance from would be the Sweet Tarte rollerball, mainly because it smelled like a caramel-drizzed bananas foster to me, very sweet and very heavy, but also because the vial itself was veeeeeery cute. I think it was actually made of glass? But I can't remember. Either way, it was a rather hefty little rollerball fragrance.
All that to say, the CT perfume bottles look like an overdone nail polish bottle set you'd find in a regular grocery store. The one that didn't get sold last holiday, so they just leave them there in the clearance section hoping someone eventually takes interest. The names are extremely juvenile, which is a trend I've been noticing is seemingly finally coming to an end in makeup as a whole, so they come off even worse than they already do. And they're gonna try to sell this for top dollar? God, no.
Coming up with a different name/category for products that already exist is a way for these companies to capitalize on FOMO and encourage consumer spending.
That hour glass powder shade range is ridiculous. It’s 2024. 1 brown
I really want the nyx bronzer bc i like a neutral or cool bronzer. I am also interested in the blushes now.
yay! New video from Kelly, gotta make some popcorn
It’s interesting that you mention brand loyalty waning. I grew up in a Clinique household, for instance. I’m in my thirties but I feel like that phenomenon doesn’t exist as much anymore, if at all.
On point! This is why I love your videos!!
those rare beauty dog toys are the cutest things ever 😂 i wouldn’t even want to give those to my dogs as they’d be destroyed 😭
There are 👏 too 👏 many 👏 new fragrance launches! I heard on a podcast today that it averages something like 80 new perfumes a week. (My memory for numbers is crap but I think it was 80 😂). It’s so cluttered. No need for Charlotte Tilbury to enter that market.
She entered once but didn't last long. The only memorable thing about her first perfume is the bottle.😆
That lip combo looks great on you! Def my go to type of lip combo, loved the video c:
I loveeee your editing style. So fun to watch.
I kind of like the Rhode phone case, good idea❤
I’ve had a Nyx Born to Glow for like 6 years at this point. It’s good to know it’s back in!
Absolutely adorable you. Thank you for what you do and sharing your thoughts
Hi, Kelly!!! I’m a powder girl, so I’m really excited about the comeback of powders. I do like the Rare Beauty new blushes, they’re similar to the Bare Minerals blonzers (which I freaking love) but more pigmented and vibrant in terms of color 😊
I completely agree 💡 ✔️ Sheepishly sticking to a one-brand-buying-scheme is a thing of the past in such a thriving, competitive market.
Ngl, I still love wearing a blinding, seen-from-space highlighter sometimes lol When it comes back around to being on-trend again, I will be READY😂
They don't want to call it highlighter because "highlighters" are for millenials, and we are cheugy. So a "glow diffuser" sounds technical AND clean girl/wellness lingo for Gen Z 😂
I hope powder does come back. I'm so ready for the wet, greasy makeup trend to end. It wouldn't be so bad if brands would release things that don't fit the trend but it's so hard to get matte products these days. Some of us have oily skin and don't work from home. I'm all for lightweight, hydrating products but they still need to last for 8+ hours and not make me look like a disco ball.
I am not nor was i ever, interested in like setting powders or powder foundation. I do enjoy powder cheek products and eyeshadow. I actually do not like cream eyeshadow lol.
I agree with the concept of brand loyalty. As department stores die and the rise of stores just for makeup brands (Ulta, Sephora)…not to mention online shopping, Clinique, Estée Lauder and Lancôme are no longer the “best brands”. We have so many options now. So we buy the best of the best.
I for sure used to be a Too Faced/Urban Decay girl.... now I'm like an r.e.m. beauty/Dior/Charlotte Tilbury/e.l.f. girl 😅 but I totally agree that most people nowadays just want the best product, no matter what brand it's from!
the number of posts & video I have seen of both the fenty highlighter (also - $40!?!?!?!? in this economy? with these interest rates?!?!) and the rare beauty blushes arriving crushed and broken makes me go _no gracias_
you can find any ol' highlighter that does its job better than fenty and glowy blushes abound!
I’ve noticed that so many of these brands keep coming out with the same types of products too frequently almost like they don’t know what to put out anymore, or some of them will release extensions of products that they already have but they’ll try to make them seem “new.” Like with Dior, last year they came out with new blush shades but they didn’t look the best especially for all skin tones, and I think just recently they did it again or maybe it was for their low balms…..but it wasn’t anything new, it was the same old thing.
I get brands not wanting to call their highlights by name bc they aren’t as popular but like….then don’t make a highlighter?
I love the Bare Minerals packaging! It's simple and very easy to use... I hate pumps and glass bottles, on the other hand
Pumps are the worst, no matter what you do there's always wasted product
I'm also confused with the highlighter thing. The ND product being advertised as a base product that you can mix with a primer... NO. It's a highlighter, call it a highlighter.
I am totally not brand loyal… I just want products that work ;)
I totally agree about moving away from brand loyalty. Especially in this economy, we want a great product at a great price, so whoever makes that will end up making the money!
I have some brand loyalty but it's more like indie eyeshadow. I will purchase any eyeshadow palette from cosmic brushes or blend bunny if the folor story is something i would love. I use so many brands though lol. Like I'm not only using lancolm base products even though I do really like the 3 foundations I have from the brand.
I actually feel this ulta sale was their best ive seen- i picked up a bunch of my faves list products during this ulta sale at 40 % off- items that are never on sale. Usually the same boring (imo) items are on sale during the other sales. I hope they keep doing this one! 🧡👍🧡👍
I’m actually surprised that CT didn’t make one of her fragrances “Pillow Talk”, since that’s is one of her most hyped big sellers.
I got an email from Bare Minerals about their new liquid blonzer and blushes, but I haven’t seen anyone review them! I am very interested to see them reviewed!
Try out the bare minerals please!
I still have my coverfx drops I use about once a month for nostalgia. I also use to keep the Glossier bubble bags to store 🍃🍃lmao
u look beauiful in this video!
I have an recomadation the merit lipstick in L'avenue its the best i use it as an blonzer and Lip coler its a must have❤❤❤
Yeah i don't consider the rare blush as a highlighter. I got too dark of a shade for me, which isn't a thing when it's actually blush.
The CT perfumes are hideous! I was so shocked. It seems so out of line with literally any other packaging they’ve ever had
Those new rare beauty blushes are vary similar to the Milani baked blushes
I'm in for charlotte tilburry's perfume. We need more CF options.
Try them Kelly!!!
this is such a smart take. i saw a video of charlotte holdcraft praising the ct perfumes to the moon and crticising and taking digs at huda beauty for doing the same. i like seeing a fair youtuber.
I just purchased the new fenty highlighter called something else lol. It looks a little dark but when i swatched it in store it seemed okay. I haven't tried it yet.
It’s not an “aversion” of the word “highlighter”. It’s renaming “highlighter” to something new in order to convince people they’re purchasing a new innovative product. When really all it is another highlighter
The highlighter but not so highlighter 😂😂 love it. Although companies can market them how they want its still a highlighter and im not into buying anymore highlighters. So i know im not missing out. For the bronzing drops still not missing anything
This is everyone’s reminder that you can mix up an eyeshadow or highlighter with an oil, lotion, or cream to get the same effect as all these glowy/bronzing products! I think a lot of people probably have an old product that they can sacrifice to the latest trend
I actually liked the CT fragrance bottles, especially the pink one, however I can see how it could be viewed as juvenile.
😂🤣🤣🤣 the color pop bronze shimmer reminds me of this super shiney shimmery gold eyeshadow i got from the drug store i think by LA Girl, or Prestige (like a walmart brand) and it was called Golden Retriever, but colorpop's version is a Copper Retriever.😂
Her fitst perfume Scent of A Dream has a very recognizable shaped bottle, she went from that to these scents. 😅
Happy with my elf bronzing drops, but thinking better to use in the summer! CT using AI to create her new fragrance line.. can she get us feeling emotions ???
Very interesting concepts.I really think those Charlotte Tilbury perfume bottles are hideous and their names. Please let us know if anyone tried them. Loved the video and your wit and humor.👍✔️❣️❗
I like the look of the CT perfume bottles. 🤷♀️ It appeals to my geeky/sciencey/fantasy lover side. I won't buy them because they're too $ IMO, but I like the look.
Elf actually released new inkwell liners in 7 shades. At least it's not a dupe & more than 2 or 3 shades.
I don't like the bare minerals tinted moisturizer either. I don't believe it did anything other than interact poorly with my other skincare lol.
Sits terribly on top of other products
No, not the plot, the company. Sold out unfortunately and this probably is the start of many changes. Charlotte only has a say now, as far as I understand. I don't know the full terms and conditions in place 😒
Oh, now I understand. Because I was wondering why some of her recent launches looked cheap. Honestly when I saw the pink bulky glosses I thought it was Too Faced. I don't understand why a company would want to sell knowing that it will cheapen the name. The greed of the Beauty industry will never cease to amazing, especially the 'luxury ones: quality/packaging not proportional to the high price tag!!
I never would have guessed those perfume bottles are Charlotte Till because they don’t seem to match her brand esthetically, right?
Her first perfume Scent of A Dream definitely fits the Old Hollywood vibe she is pushing nonstop. I wonder why she didn't reuse that bottle, it's recognizable at least.
Those butter melt bronzers break WAY TOO EASILY. I opened mine and it immediately broke. I didn’t drop it.
I remember Glossier has been selling hoodies with their logo even back in 2015 or something...so i think selling merch from a makeup brand isn't anything new...HOWEVER, I think the type of merch products they are selling are kinda innovative like Rhode.
I'd rather get a Target perfume than one of the Charlotte TIlbury fragrances.... It doesn't look high-end at all. I can't imagine them smelling good, I would be shocked if they did.
I think the idea
Of Mixed Makeup idea has really dissolved brand loyalty.
Laws of attraction trademark? Saw this coming
I think “the Hill” was the mountain the beauty industry refused to die on. So many were emotionally and financially burned by the twenty teen’s experiences. I noticed nobody is using the portmanteau “Blighter”?
Hmm… speaking of brand loyalty,
Before my parents divorced, the budget was much better for my mom’s makeup. She was an Estée Lauder girl for life, even though she wasn’t their primary demographic (she was late 20’s-early 30’s.) As time went on, after the divorce we couldn’t afford as high end makeup, so she would OCCASIONALLY do a Sephora shop, in moderation. So mom was an Estee girly.
I think I have compartmentalism’s brand loyalty:
For lips, always MAC.
For blush or highlighter, NARS.
For skincare, Cerave or Neutrogena.
I’m still figuring things out, shopping both drugstore and high end to find out what I like best. Not every brand does everything top notch. They have specialties, I think.
