I currently work in a mosquito research lab in the department of UF Entomology. Mosquitos are attracted to the carbon dioxide in our breath. Interestingly, mosquitos are attracted to those with a higher metabolic rate (which explains why some people are basically mosquito magnets). Carbon dioxide is also a popular choice for various mosquito control devices and many use dry ice for this reason!

I gave CPR to a bird many years ago. It fell into a water bucket and was floating motionless in the water. I took it out, held it upside down by its legs and gently squeezed (as in CPR) it's "chest". Water poured out. After a few minutes the bird revived and after another few minutes it flew away. I often wondered if the little guy survived or maybe got pneumonia and died. Whatever happened it was a very long time ago.

At first i assumed that it was sleeping (i have almost never seen a duck sleep or learnt about them so i wouldn't know) so i left it. I tried turning it over after a bit but it just went back. I thought something was wrong so i brought it on land and gave it cpr. Later on, others had seen what happened and called some people over. They took it away in a towel and (hopefully) it survived.

Related to the upside down roller coaster: When I was nine, I rode one of these with my two older sisters at the fairgrounds and it stopped like this for five minutes or so. We were all freaked out, but it became really scary when me and my sisters realized that my seat belt was not tight enough across my body so I began slipping. They struggled to hold me up and the entirety of everyone on the ride were screaming for the operator to bring the roller coaster carts down because I was in danger of falling to my death. The operator had stepped out and was nowhere to be seen for that five minutes. Eventually the ride was brought down and everyone got off. I remember so disoriented and scared my sisters brought me back to my parents. I don't remember what happened after that, but I kind of hope that the operator was fired.

It actually can be a very good idea to wash your fruit (especially strawberries) in vinegar water. It kills mold spores, which means your berries or other delicate fruits are very unlikely to go moldy on you.
For the same reason, you can sometimes use vinegar to deal with, eg, a mild yeast infection, or dandruff. The yeasties don't like the acidity.

Not a mosquito scientist, but I have strong swelling reactions to mosquito bites (concerned about developing a more severe allergic reaction) so my doctor and I have been looking into ways to make me less likely to get bit. Pheromones, blood type, stress, and diet can all play a role in the smell of your sweat, which can attract more mosquitoes. Citronella in lotion or soap, long sleeves and pants, eating more garlic, and adding a vanilla extract perfume (not sweet smelling fair warning) has helped me. These solutions don't work for everyone, but they've helped keep down bite frequency while we try to figure out my immune reaction to the bites.
My experience and solutions are all North American based, and it's possible the species of mosquitoes in different environments may react differently. Stay safe and hopefully keep the mosquitoes away!

A couple of years ago, around 2019, I started losing an extreme amount of weight - going from 120 to 100 lbs in about a month, all the while eating constantly. I just knew something had to be wrong. Finally my blood work showed my blood chemistry was way off - similar to someoe who had severe eating disorder. I had a small growth on my pancreas, luckily, non-cancerous, that was removed. However, the remaining part of my pancreas was still not doing what a pancreas does. I was still losing weight, until I was down to about at my lowest 85 pounds. I was started on TPN, 24/7. There was a insertion in my upper arm with a catheter that ran close to my heart. That's where the TPN was administered. I was on this for about six months, at home. I was told that this type of insertion is almost impossible to keep clean or sterile in a normal home atmosphere. So of course, after a couple of months, I came down with sepsis. Back into the hospital. After being on the TPN 24/7 for about five months, I was switch to only 12 hours a day. When I finally started gaining some weight back, we went to first TPN every other day and then every third day until I could finally get off of it. That stuff really saved my life.
