AMD is very popular in North America and Europe, but in other countries wasn't due to lack market of distributions. Also one of the reason is they don't have any encourage for such ordinary requirements and didn't care about sockets upgrade as they really want to use long-term support (Most people aren't rich unlike heavily gamers). So that's why Intel are much more reliable and compatibility, same as Nvidia does.
