What makes this phenomenal is the rawness and the minimalism. How Madonna was able to exude a dynamic performance in the limited space she had on that stage.
Summer 1983 in Brazil. It was the first time that I heard "Everybody", and I wasn't the anymore. She changed my life. I love you Madonna, and I always will.
Her voice was so unique at that time. And pitch perfect
Shot on a Thompson 602 microcam. Recorded on 3/4 Video Cassette. . Sound captured with 2 microphones suspended from ceiling. This is 100 uneidited and un-enhanced. Sire records came and watched it the next day to see if they could get away with using it as her music video for the song, but this didn't cut it so they hired Ed Steinberg at Rockamerica to do an official one. The Dancers are Bags, Martin and Erica. I shot this. During the filming of Desperately Seeking Susan we watched this together. That was the last time I saw her in person.

I read & heard by those who were related to her, that Madonna had already a very strong personality in the pre-Madonna phase (1977-1981).

Hey benovision. Absolutely amazing video. I'm writing a book about a Danish star - died of AIDS in 1990 - that lived in New York for long periods of time. I'm curious: Is this really her first performance? As Madonna? Or in general? The thing is we have a source that claims our dead subject saw her before she called herself Madonna. Could that be true? And if so when could that be? Thanks!
@@ralfchristensen This was her first performance as Madonna. I understand she was in other bands that may have played around. The first time I heard of her was when my boss said "you have to shoot No Entiendes tonight and don't let the tape run out during Madonna's performance. She's going to be big."
Some people were born to be a star. Madonna is one of them. Amazing how far she has come since such humble beginnings, respect to her.

Sadly... today she is but a shadow of those glorious years.. She has been so desperate post "Confessions" to remain relevant and it shows in the worst of ways... she should've stopped while there was some dignity still left in her

Dancetaria (1980-1986) a four-floor nightclub in NY open from 8 pm to 8 am, frequented by artists who later became famous performed there: Madonna (always on track dancing and everyone looking at her), Sade (barwoman), Keith Haring and the Beastie Boys (waiters), LL Cool J (lift boy) and DJ Mark Kamins - who gave Madonna some of her music's first public exposure there - M approached Kamins in the DJ cabin, gave him a Everybody demo in which she had been working with Stephen Bray. People liked it.

"Everybody" was the first of Madonna's hits. The Music Industry may differ, but the underground party's and clubs played the $hit out of this song before it the mainstream. I remember hearing "Everybody" from an underground party in Hollywood California hosted by the famous DJ I used to dance with Ballet & The Teddy Boys...

everyone starts some where very humbling ...Been a fan since 1985 got a tape from a friend. she got it thru the mail she said never heard of Madonna she said it was a junk tape from her music club...I listened 2 it and BEEN IN LOVE SINCE!

I deeply admire Madonna:
- genius (writes ot co-writes & produces 99% of her discography)
- perseverance to impose herself in the early 80s, in an era without Internet, social networks & unlike the recent pop stars, she hadn't the Disney or Nickelodion support
- imposed in an area dominated by male androgean artists: Mickael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie
- versatility voice (baby voice & sexy in the early years / after a raw & raspy, presently more powerful voice)
- all the styles, including her pre-fame stage previous to the solo career (1978-1981)
- at last but not least: her beauty & sensuality.

The real "A Star is born"
Madonna's presents and voice changed the whole underground dance scene. Madonna's look was very influential from the clothes she wore to the "Black Rubber Gasket Bracelets" she introduced to the mainstream. Only on the Chicano's from the San Gabriel Valley, East Los Angeles and surround areas wore these bracelets back in the day. I remember my Uncle Moses giving one of his bracelets in 1971. I never knew where to buy but them but all Chicana's & Chicanos wore them and some still do... Luv ya

I was just a baby just a baby in Colombia, South America, when this song was played for the first time. Now 30 years later she came to Medellin, Colombia with her MDNA tour, I could se her live and show her all the love and respect I have for her.
