Funny how she was always criticized by not being able to sing well. Now in 2018 not many female popstars can slay a dance song without even dancing. Here Madonna is fully moving all over that stage and singing live and close to the album version. Goes to show how unfairly treated she was, to be honest.

Quincy Jones wasn't about to deal with an artist full of herself and unable to refine her voice, he already had many like that on his plate. There was no space for Maddona in a project like this. I was there. Not too far from the stage, at the tender age of 17. I wasn’t a Madonna fan back then, but she did a great job. I get a kick out of spotting myself in that massive crowd of around 90,000. It was hot as hell that day, and later, they turned the fire hoses on us and it was fantastic. What an awesome day, certainly the defining concert of my life.

@Ros ros something being deemed "the SHIT" is an African American colloquialism for something being The best... i.e. The important part of it is without THE, an entirely different meaning applies. My teacher is shit= bad teacher. My teacher is THE shit = greatest teacher...SO.. I SAID WHAT I MEANT.

Yeah they were the shit back then and now everything sucks now b/c music TV movies have gone downhill. At least Madonna used real music here and none of that digital music we hear today and she can really move and have fun at the same time. Madonna will always be the queen of pop! Nobody can ever come close to her.

Music and stage shows was at a crossroads in this era. Almost all the other performers at Live Aid were traditional stage performers who sang, maybe strutted around the stage a bit, and focused mainly on the music (MJ, Prince and Tina being notable exceptions). Madonna combined music with dance performance in her stage presentations that most pop acts are now expected to follow. At the same time, this was only the beginning for Madonna... in later tours like Blond Ambition, she added a theatrical/narrative storytelling arc to her shows as well that shifted the expectations for tours yet again. This at the time felt so daring and innovative... amazing that she was singing live while dancing so energetically... little did we know this was only the beginning. It feels almost quaint and innocent now. ;)

I got home...put my TV on the 2nd floor balcony, turned up the volume, jumped in our swimming pool on that very hot summer day, floated around all afternoon listening to this blast all over the neighborhood.

She was a tremendous performer and fashion trend setter. She could have made hundreds of millions just from marketing her fashion line. Any criticism of her singing is absurd. She was quite a vocal athlete. She rose so rapidly that some were just reaching for an excuse not to enjoy what she had to offer.
