  • Which monumental motor will make the most horsepower... the Chevy 454 or the Ford 460? Joe and Mike build one of each in the HorsePower shop. Then, a showdown on the dyno will determine which is the baddest.

      Ford factory 460 heads definitely leave something to desire...they don't flow as well as factory 454 heads.Thats a big reason why the Chevy made so much more power not to mention the cam was a little bigger 😎

    I love the sound of that 454 - like Bob Falfa's Chevy in American Graffiti. Vrooom! Interesting, though, that the Ford's stock crank can handle 700 hp vs only 500 on the 454. Sounds like the Ford is the way to go.

    Not a fair comparison unless you put comparative identical parts. When you put better parts ( even though budget the same) you will get better performance.

  • @RalphRomano2
    @RalphRomano2 3 года назад +10

    All I see is hidden parts for the Chevy, missing pictures for the heads intake ports too. Missing information on the cam, and SUDDENLY getting the results you want. If those are even the real numbers. After reading the comments, you can tell NOBODY is fooled. How to lose customers and views is the reason RIGHT HERE in this video.

  • @craigfiles7067
    @craigfiles7067 3 года назад +22

    You can not have fair comparison unless every part is the same on each engine like having a modified points distributor on ford but a hi output mallory on chevy as the mallory has better spark output and curve also cams have to have same lift, duration and lsa. Piston design also changes performance

    • @terrypikaart4394
      @terrypikaart4394 3 года назад

      I agree!. Should have left chevy bottom end alone, and same heads as close as possible. Same compression and cam. First test was a little better..

    • @177SCmaro
      @177SCmaro 3 года назад

      Then you'd be building two identical engines and there wouldn't be much point.
      Also, at the stock power and rpm level, there won't be much difference between points and hei. What the main difference here is likely heads. Even truck heads on a 454 are probably a little better then truck heads on a 460.
      Once they built them up a little they essentially performed the same.

    • @Horrible_Deplorable
      @Horrible_Deplorable 2 года назад

    Nice video but I dont agree with the cam choice for the Chevy. They should have used Hydraulic on both engines. The torque on the Ford boils down to cubic inches though. Nice engines definitely, but worlds apart based on Camshafts.

    Budget build Ford cost $80 more. Performance build the Chevy got a new crankshaft. Seems like the performance Chevy build cost a lot more than the Ford. Prices not listed.
    Chevy only did better above 5,500 rpm. The Ford would do better on the street or in a 1/4 mile drag. Chevy wins on the dyno or on a long track.
