      I don't know how much you know about this...There were articles in the media that... This movie is highly inspired from the real life story of Akshay Kumar and twinkle Khanna... no one knew and Karan Johar silently took this story and made the film... and I'm damn sure even Akshay wouldn't know this 😂😂😂

    What you couldn’t understand with the classical dance that the girls father did and people were laughing their heads off was about the stereotype of a certain dance done by females only. It’s equivalent to a bloke doing ballet when it’s a dance that has mostly been dominated by women. Ranveer’s family being of a Punjabi background where it was not considered macho enough to perform this kind of dance burst out laughing. Naturally the grandma intentionally humiliated the girls father by inviting him to perform knowing too well that it would not sit well with the audience.

    • @nehayadav772
      @nehayadav772 9 месяцев назад

      It’s your perception. Movie makers also stereotypical. Nobody in real life laughs. People know it depends on dance. In punjabis too women and men both do dance with macho steps becoz their dance is like that. In haryanavi folk dance, both men and women do similar kind of dance where you see men doing thumkas a lot with lots of expression just like their women counterparts. then why would they laugh on seeing a men doing classical. Kathak is done that way, people know it. Famous mentors of Kathak dance are men. Pandit Birju Maharaj.
      Narrow exposure of yours and even movie makers made you believe that

    • @shanemadhwan3190
      @shanemadhwan3190 9 месяцев назад +5

      @@nehayadav772 . Not my perception at all . That’s what the movie was trying to portray. That s the very reason that someone yelled out “ What kind of dance is this ? “ . These kind of dances may be practiced within many Indian cultures but it is not a mainstream thing within Indian society . It is shown to us that the guy performing this dance was the only male in his class and his father though a polished man from the outside, resented his son for doing so as told by Shabana Azmi. I’m not Indian but it’s pretty clear to me putting two and two together that Jaya knew that people would mock the guy performing thus she put him on stage .

    • @nehayadav772
      @nehayadav772 9 месяцев назад

      @@shanemadhwan3190 that’s what I am saying why such a bad representation of a whole region and society. In movie it is clear that they want to showcase two contrasting cultures but they surely got it wrong. Esp punjabi and north west Indian in general as Bengal is in far east.
      Script writer has a narrow view of society, it seems they are probably aware of so called high society culture they are not aware of ground reality. If they had seen ground reality they will know how much even a feminine dance by boys or men is appreciated in our region. It may seem uncultured in some high class people but not among common people. since they r showing a narrow view of high society they should not call it punjabi and bengali thing.

    • @seemonjena659
      @seemonjena659 9 месяцев назад +2

      @nehayadav772 I am not a Punjabi and I have had Punjabi friends and as far as I have seen them laugh at classical dance forms performed by men! Not saying all Punjabis are like that but my experience suggests otherwise! You certainly seem to have had a better experience as your comment also shows which is great. And the movie never tries to demean either culture. As Shabana Azmi's character towards the end says that even her husband who is a Bengali (Bengalis are generally considered to be very polished in their manner and behaviour) too had this regressive mentality that men cannot and should not dance.
      PS- In my opinion the movie gives a really beautiful message in that patriarchal mindset sometimes has nothing to do with culture and geographical descent! Men in Indian society irrespective of which part of India they belong to have been brought up to be macho, to never show their emotions and have their say in everything and women have been taught to be submissive, docile and are not encouraged to have any opinion! Patriarchy in itself is like an ingrained culture that transcends class, caste and religion and is deeply embedded in our Indian society as a whole!

    • @shanemadhwan3190
      @shanemadhwan3190 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@seemonjena659 . Spot on mate . I didn’t want to go on and on about it but you’ve hit the nail on the head . It’s all about patriarchy which goes on to support my initial comment where I gave the equivalence of a bloke doing ballet in a western society and being frowned upon by their peers. It certainly supersedes cultures societies etc . I’m of a Indian Fijian origin and have seen this trend whilst growing up there . I’ve lived in Australia for over 4 decades and have seen the same trend here as well . That’s clearly what the movie was portraying.

    Btw we do have male dancers who do kathhak and have always done that traditionally in ancient India. We did not have such biases back then.
    Some of the best dancers were males. Lord shiva is also a dancer and there are different kinds of dances that he does like Tandav and Lasya.
    It’s just that toxic masculinity ruined alot old cultural practices.

    Good movie but quite unrealistic.
    Nobody in northwest India really laugh on seeing men doing a graceful dance. So many rasleela event happens here, in those events men do dance very gracefully with delicate expressions.
    Also Kathak’s famous mentors are men.
    Does it even make sense that someone will confuse inter-caste with intercourse. And if a person is weak in english, words like intercourse, orgasm will be last to come on their lips lol. They won’t know them at all and without knowing it’s literally impossible that someone would spell out a wrong word that is actually a word but very different than original one. 😅
