The highlight of the movie is the subtle and sad look of Alia when she sends the child back home.. Just the 3 seconds look convey volumes, Like there is no one back then to rescue her like this.. Kudos Alia... One woman show🎉🎉

This movie is a true story of Gangubai Kathiawadi, a lady forced to do prostitution after sold by her boyfriend. She became a lady don with help of then big don Rauf Lala and transformed and developed the red light area Kamathipura (Kamathipura is in Mumbai) like trying to rehabilitate the girls, putting the children of prostitutes into school, etcetera. She is still worshipped in Kamathipura till today

In film there is a tendency to glamorize sex work. Think about how often action movies have gyrating, half naked, faceless women who are playing prostitutes who were forced into it by the bad guy. In bollywoods the men will often do song and dance scenes in red light districts where all the attractive young women happily dance along with the hero. The reality of these women's lives is harrowing. Most are forced into it, or had no other options, taking abusive clients starting at horrifyingly young ages. Their pimps abuse them, their clients injure them, they live in poverty. Yet for some reason we tend to dress them up, make them smile, and pretend that we are not exploiting them for their beauty and availability.
Not gonna lie, I don't ever watch this movie anymore. It makes me sick. It's absolutely horrible because people this vile actually exist in real life.(I am referring to the things she went through, not the women, just in case someone misunderstands) I cry every time.
