    I know u won't believe but there are still such families in india where they believe so hard in patriarchy, Rocky's family is not exaggerated. Rocky's dialogue writer in this movie deserves a million Oscars. The dialogues are hilarious and so accurate to a Delhi boy. Rocky looks so real. Everyone in this movie gave justice to their roles even Rocky's friend who is just a supporting actor. Perfectly made movie.

    13:49 CORRECTION: Kathak, 'a style of dancing' is for both the genders (infact for all irrespective of their genders) Contemporary Indian society wrongly perceives it as a feminine form of dance. KJo said in an interview he wanted to comment on the toxic masculinity AS WELL AS our ignorance towards our own culture. (Note the half-feet touching scene= half respect just before Rocky decides to learn Kathak)

    While I LOVE this movie , I used to dislike Karan Johar movies as a kid, I could not bear the way in the early days, men in his movies were extremely disrespectful of the women around them, his obsession with white skin and always shooting in cities like London and New York while claiming to love India and his characters bashing the west (eg Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam), projecting parents as gods while they behaved horribly with their kids, I used to find them super cringe. However, in the recent Karan Johar's interviews, loved how he acknowledged the cringe while reflecting on his own movies. But Rocky and Rani was a departure from all that - loved that it came from Karan Johar where these topics of disrespect towards women were actually addressed (especially towards the end of the movie in the Randhawa family), movie looked and felt Indian, they addressed so many issues close to my heart - concept of women as something to be given away to the boy's family instead of two people just sharing life and both side parents as equally important even after marriage, showing parents as both loving and human (as likely to make mistakes and also learn), obsession with english, cancel culture as well as my favourite part - hiring two good genuine bengali actors to play the part making the body language, accent and depiction perfect. LOVED THE MOVIE.

    • @christina5266

      What?? He was the one who made My Name Is Khan. Even in K3G, he portrayed the parents/Amitabh bachchan as TOXIC and made him apologise to Kajol and SRK at the end of the movie after he realised his mistakes. Where did he portray parents as gods? And in K3G, the portrayal of women was anything but disrespectful as SRK stood by his wife and never compromised. Kajol was shown as the bubbly loud mouthed girl. Same for MNIK where Mandira was a strong independent woman and same goes for ADHM where Anushka rejected Ranbir and made her own decisions. And the funniest thing is you are telling that he has obsession with white skin, when KKHH, K3G, KANK, MNIK all featured dark skinned women like Kajol and Rani. And he shot his movies outside India because he was the type of filmmaker to make movies for NRI's and foreigners apart from Indians, thats why K3G is the most popular bollywood movie overseas. And there is nothing wrong with that. Every filmmaker has a unique style of his own like Bhansali who always makes period films. Every thing you criticized is non existent in KJO films

    • @pritharoychowdhury5020
      @pritharoychowdhury5020 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@christina5266 MNIK, ADHM is not one of his earlier movies that I saw as a kid. Also, they are a departure from the Big Bollywood style too. What I was referring to was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam, Kuch Kuch Hota hai , etc. And yes, Amitabh Bachchan's character did apologize and yet he gaslighted his child. And Jaya forgave him easily. That's the problem. Additionally, sharukh did like this bubby girl Kajol after he got married and the movie moves to London, there are sequences of sharukh being extremely irritable with Kajal in the morning sequence and also in the song 'Bole Chudiya' , he actually tries to stop her from dancing. There were no dialogues to portray this, it was expressed through the body language. And more importantly, what's with getting a woman married as soon as her dad dies, like literally on the same day?! Like a woman always needs a male guardian in a married form/ or a dad or brother to exist in this world. Just being there emotionally for her was not enough. It did affect me as a child and dislike the movies.
      Rocky Aur Rani was a departure because the toxicity of the Jaya character and his son was not addressed at the end, it was addressed from the beginning and Rocky's mom did NOT forgive her husband easily. Rocky was respectful in words and body language with Rani throughout. That's the difference.

    • @christina5266
      @christina5266 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@pritharoychowdhury5020 the problem you have with K3G doesn't make sense because the movie shows the exact opposite of it. Amitabh is shown rude, condescending and elitist since the beginning and its not portrayed in a good light, he was negative from the start. He gaslighted his child, sure but did they glorify it?? You are saying that movies should not show bad people at all?? Portraying people negatively isn't the problem, glorifying them is, k3g didn't do it at all, Amitabh was hated by Hrithik, Jaya and his mother in those 10 years. Jaya forgave him because at the end he was genuinely remorseful and rectified his mistakes. And what could Jaya do?? They were in last stages of their life lol, you wanted divorce between them? Amitabh went through redemption arc and thats what matters. And he was NOWHERE NEAR AS BAD AS TIJORI. Tijori was a misogynist who abused women and ruined their lives. Amitabh was far better than him in every way. So comparing them is plain weird. And SRK was shown extremely irritable in the morning because Kajol was being VERY loud, any normal person even people who are loud(like me) find such voices annoying in the morning because they were sleeping there. If you see the other scenes and deleted scenes, they have a very loving and healthy relationship. And the woman getting married on the same day was indeed very dramatic, and unnecessary. However telling that a woman in her situation needs no guardian is unrealistic ad delusional. Stop trying to see everything from the privileged lens of the society. Having guardians is never a bad thing. And while every woman definitely doesn't need a man to survive, Kajol needed the help. Kajol was a lower middle class woman with no support other than her father, after he died, she had no one left and she lost basically everything. Some people can never grasp the fact some people do in fact need help and support, and there is NOTHING wrong with it. Not every girl needs to be a boss girl who believes she needs no man. SRK was going to marry her anyways, he just sped up the process(which was absurd, that i agree with). Just being there for her "emotionally"?? Are you serious lol? How? Please explain? With what right will he support her "emotionally"?

    • @christina5266
      @christina5266 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@pritharoychowdhury5020 While Rocky might have been respectful throughout, Rani wasn't. She berated him multiple times and led him on and gaslighted him. So its fine when Rani does it because she is a woman, but SRK feeling irritated because Kajol was singing loudly while he was trying to sleep is toxic? Be for real

    • @pritharoychowdhury5020
      @pritharoychowdhury5020 9 месяцев назад

      @@christina5266 For starters, there is no need to take it so personally. I respect your opinion and different people perceive different things differently depending on the age, circumstances around them and more and you and I have perceived it differently . And no, I don't think gaslighting anyone is the right way to go but when you grow up in families where there has been deaths, traumas due to deeply abusive behaviour of men (which may include your own parents, masis, etc) and you grow up seeing men gaslighting their wives everyday, seeing even traces of that on screen as normal behaviour does leave a negative impact on you. And no, I never said she didn't need him, all I said he could have been her partner (boyfriend) and marriage was not necessary at that moment, maybe in a few months or a year would have been completely fine and normal. And yes, not all women need to be boss ladies, neither am I one. I very much acknowledge that in many spheres of life, I and my partner are dependent on each other and that's fine, I agree.
      Also, about the parents part, I did not perceive it similarly. Kajol kept wishing for her father in law's ashirvaad though he was mean to her, and even sneakily takes it. That to me, was unnecessary. I always believe that when people are toxic , regardless of age, they automatically lose respect of people, regardless of gender. They are no longer deserving of any sign of respect unless they acknowledge their mistake. Also, I put Amitabh and Tojori on a same scale of misbehaviour. Atleast Tijori's is on the face, it's not subtle, it's easier to identify. Amitabh's one is subtle , it is far difficult to fight against subtle dominating egoistic behaviour. It triggered the 5-6 year old in me navigating this world, and it's perfectly fine if you saw it differently. For example, many many people find Sooraj Barjatiya's movies even more cringe but I didn't, because mean behaviour always triggered me more than gender roles, for personal reasons.

Anurakh Keshyap is a great film maker….different types of movies but great film maker. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the GREATEST film maker in the world. Amitabh Bachchan is a legend. I can go on and on about Bollywood and I can compare it to Hollywood which is two different worlds of film making. Kathak is not female dance as this movie portrays... You watched Bhool Bhulaiya right you saw that last kathak dance with vidhya where male dancer totally dominate.

      I think he was trying to convey the relevance as to why a male kathak dancer was being laughed at later in the movie, I believe.

    One of the most intolerable and crass overacting infused movies of the decade and surprisingly Korbin enjoys it lol
