Hey, this domain isn’t dead, this is new!
🎉🎉🎉
Undead Domain
Sometimes dead is betteh.
A friend of mine got this game recently. He mentioned to him as a standout moment a side case where a guy had stolen the stash from a pair of drug dealers and went around selling it at half their usual price. You find the dealers as they have caught the guy and are about to kill him, but not before one of the dealers gives a brief economics lecture about how it is bad for everyone to be selling a product at unsustainably low prices because then the customers will be hostile towards raising the price to normal.
And that drug dealer was Denis Pragur and everyone clapped. I'm surprised the right aren't championing this game as some kind of Anti Woke masterpiece without getting the jokes.
I kinda love eurojank cause its "flaws" reminds me the amount of effort it takes to make a game, helps showing it soul
10000%. There’s an almost handcrafted feeling to the jank that feels like always reaching for a greater possibility. It’s so specific but great
You've got to give it to a game that is an ultra-violent shooter that lets you issue parking tickets. And, as you mentioned, the morality system, dialogues, dealing with Murphy's struggle (I LOVE the shrink character)... I agree, Robocop might be my GOTY as well. If only they patch in a NG+ some time.
I was expecting a fun shooter but the way they really expand and explore the characters I think has been the best surprise
Honestly, just "made by the people who made terminator: resistance" is enough to sell me. They are genuinely a creative team with original ideas who can deliver the kind of single player fps gameplay you rarely see anymore. The terminator resistance story might be the second best terminator story among all media. I'll definitely check this out.
🙏🙏🙏
I think you just genuinely convinced me to try a game that I otherwise would have never even considered playing.
Hell yeah! That’s what I’m all about!
Same. I've never actually seen Robocop but know the gist (and enjoy Paul Verhoeven), and I thought this was a generic, IP-riding cash-grab.
Now, I want to go reconstruct my PC (fuck moving) so I can actually play this.
Paul Verhoeven is one of the most misunderstood and underrated filmmakers in the history of film. Robocop is often misunderstood as copaganda, but its a satire of copaganda and capitalism. Starship Troopers is often misunderstood as either a brainless action movie or fascist propaganda (the book actually is), but its actually a satire of fascist propaganda films and military scifi. Verhoeven's films make a lot more sense when you know that he's left-ish and an overt anti-fascist who grew up in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands. I have no explanation for Showgirls, lol.
I love a good sleeper hit, no joke I remember people saying “oh this just looks like a rail shooter” And all I could think was “is that a bad thing!?”
Well the team originally made rail shooters, famously including the terrible Rambo game from a few years back
@@deaddomaincan’t go wrong with a good Rail Shooter those where my lifeblood when I was younger Ocean Hunter, Carnevil, Jurassic Park The Lost World and of course House Of The Dead
@@ukotoa1639Definitely play Tsumi to Batsu (Sin & Punishment) on the N64 if you haven't. The Wii sequel is fine, good even, but the first one is better IMO.
@@deaddomainThat Rambo game is one of the few times I actually regretted sailing the stormy seas. What a pile of trash. Glad to see they are capable of making good games now.
I personally love rail shooters, their Fun, specially in arcades or with a phisical pointer like a Wii mote
Robocop Rogue City is the perfect example of how a game developed with passion by a small team can perfectly capture the essence of the original and delight its fans. I prefer games like this 1000 times more than many soulless AAA blockbusters. It's a shame that AA developers are always compared to AAA projects by the gaming press and not praised for their independence like indie games..
I haven't beat it yet, but this RoboCop game holds the same place in my eyes as the Ghostbusters game from 2008: The unofficial third movie to its franchise because it's made with so much care and attention.
Oh yeah absolutely in the same category
I'd buy that for a dollar
I feel like Robocop, from what you say, should be a bit like Optimus Prime in the sense that he is strong enough to be kind.
Absolutely. There are hints of it in the film but they do a great job of expanding on it in the game.
Or, to put it in a more thematic way, he's Strong enough to show humanity.
@@dragon1130 That also works very well.
Are you man enough to soften up?
Are you tough enough to open up?
Man to man
You gotta let me in
You've gotta be the bigger man
You've got to take the higher ground
You gotta pull your fists away
You gotta lay your weapons down
So you want to play rough in the parking lot?
See you acting tough, but I know you're not
We can take it outside, scuff up in the streetlights
I just really wanna fight with you
What's wild is that I remember talking with a friend several years ago about why it sucks there isn't a decent RoboCop game, and when I described what I'd want in one, _it was almost exactly like this._
The main difference is I wanted to be able to tell Lewis to take up positions or interact with things, like the squad mechanics in Star Wars: Republic Commando. I also wanted to have sections where I play as Lewis and tell Murphy to do stuff, where she's obviously way faster but more fragile, what with her being a normal squishy human.
But hey, I can yeet enemies at other enemies, and this makes me cackle out loud. What really cemented this as something I'd buy (for a dollar 🤓) was when Murphy has to intervene in a drug dispute where three drug makers are holding an undercutting dealer at gunpoint and angrily lecturing him on economic theory. I was _crying_ with laughter.
I've been hyped to see this release for ages now, and I LOVE to see high praise from people whose opinions I respect
Awh thank you 💕
Robocop was amazing! I grew up watching the films and this game feels more like a serious Robocop movie than 3 did. Hope they do Judge Dredd next!
2:30 I love how many bullets just come out of that tiny pistol without even pretending like it needs to reload lol.
It's possible. I have an upgrade where you never have to reload.
Thanks so much for this video. I wasn't sure if the game was copaganda or something, and it was super helpful that you addressed that specifically.
Never seen Robocop, but I knew a little about it. It's pretty much a dystopia critique of cops, right?
Oooh it’s so good. It’s less about cops than it is about consumerism (particularly in the 80s) how violence is packaged as entertainment, and how police work in protection of capital.
One of the best movies ever. It feels like...a life hack or something. It's so smart and yet disguised as dumb action. It's a gem we don't deserve.
All of Paul Verhoven's 80s-90s sci fi movies (and Showgirls) are gold. Nobody does thought provoking schlock like him.
Haven't played it myself yet (old PC and no contemporary platforms 🙃), but as a big fan of the original movie, I've really been enjoying all the good vibes coming out about this game 🙂
I hope you get to check it out!
I'll buy that for a dollar 😉
Honestly, I'm just happy to see another game by a company that obviously *cares* about what they're making. There's so much media put out by teams that, understandably, see what they're doing as a paycheck. Robocop: RC isn't perfect, but by god, these devs care about what they make.
I didn’t know they made Terminator Resistance that game was incredible and it’s sad a lot more people haven’t played it, it had a story so true to the movies it’s probably the third best story in the timeline.
Makes me want to play this now!
They definitely brought the same energy to Robocop
I've kinda been ignoring this game, but you've sold me on it.
Glad to hear it!
Terminator: Resistance and Robocop: Rogue city have the best stories either franchise has had in a long time, not perfect, but a lot better stories than they have had in other mediums and now I'm kinda hoping the next game is a modern version of Robocop Vs Terminator.
Omg don’t get my hopes up
Just played this and as a fan of the first two Robocop movies, I have to say this game is excellent even if there is some issues here and there. They really captured the spirit of the Robocop world and made the combat very satisfying. Plus the choose your own dialogue options were a very nice addition to flesh out Murphy's character.
I hope the devs expand the ideas from this into a possible sequel or even into a Judge Dredd video game which i know some are discussing for the devs to do next.
The fact that I trust a dispassionate murder cyborg more than a normal police officer speaks volumes.
We are in such a golden age for first person shooters right now. With games like this, Doom Eternal, Dusk, Amid Evil, Turbo Overkill, and many others, there is an overwhelming number of unique and fantastic shooters to choose from. I haven't played this one yet, but it's on my list and I'm planning to get it as soon as I can!
Jokes on you. I don't need you to tell me to play the new Robocop game. I was already sold on the demo (and the teams previous game, Terminator: Resistance.) I just gotta wait for a paycheck... or two... I gotta buy me a new office chair first.
Office Chairs do take precedence
Honestly, I think one of Stefanie Sterling's best points they ever made was that not only is video game violence not comparable to the real world, but it is so different that it just is not violence. I should not be able to show myself harming one person yet in games I can show myself ending _hundreds of thousands of lives_ and possibly stay monetised.
Like Mortal Knobat is brutal but often when you take damage it is still... really funny. All of your organs explode as you then go back to fighting is... I don't think we have a word for it but calling it violence is kind of a disservice. Seeing it in a live sports game would needless to say not be funny.
9:16 Honestly I love ragdoll mayhem and stuff like that only encourages me to get a game more. My favorite moments from games like FEAR is when you blast some replica 20 feet in the air and it gets stuck in the ceiling and starts spazzing. Guess I have a new game to get.
My question initially was "is ED-209 in the game?" (Because ED-209 is so fucking cool and is my absolute favorite movie robot of all time) and when I saw it in the gameplay footage that it sows up, now I absolutely need to get this game
Thanks for the review. I'd been mildly interested/curious about this one for a while, partly because I hadn't seen a decent single-player shooter that looked like a fun ride in a while (not counting Control or Superhot), and frankly I miss blitzing through tie-in games. Jank is fine (especially stuff like bodies getting stuck in architecture, so long as it doesn't ruin playability, preventing you from getting a needed thing or proceeding with the game), and the idea that you feel powerful is kind of nice - much as the recent Avengers game had a lot of problems (I liked the characterization and the overall campaign story, some of the move sets were neat), my biggest problem was that it was designed to scale with you, so you never felt like a powerful superhero, which is a main reason to play those games. Maybe I just need to replay Origins Wolverine. Oh, and I guess I might check out that Terminator game, too.
(Yes, I did watch and respond to this video 9 months late, but I only just found this channel recently)
I had heard a lot of talk about this, but am glad to see a little video on it! Went from interested to wishlisting! Thanks for the review and discussion, especially on Verhoeven and his view on US society (always feel proud someone from my dingus country got to make really influential art)!
This is the only Robocop-related media that I'm actually interested in since the original film.
A good choice tbh
@@deaddomain None of the other installments seemed to "get" the source material, you know? Thank you for the review, will absolutely check this game out.
@@chayimweinstock443 Same. Just to give you some more incite on the game. Metacritic critic score is 72 while users are at 90. Looks like it's at least a decent enough game : )
I would be v surprised if anybody claimed "copaganda!"
Same. The franchise was built on NOT praising pigs but showing how messed up the cop world can be. If you know the directors other works like total recall and star ship troppers you will know he's a filthy commie like me hahahaha
I love the og robocop movie so much. It’s probably one of the best satires ever made and I’m so happy to hear that the game is very faithful to that attitude
Finally got this after sitting on the fence. Action/satire wise I was already sold, but feared it was a once youve gone through it your done kinda deal. The fact you have dialouge options/choices swung it for me as that to me is great replay value and what I look for in games.
Yes! I could tell this game was a love-letter to the original movies when I saw some gameplay and to see your glowing review makes me so happy. I'll definitely be grabbing this when I can.
I'll def consider it. It's been a while since I've really liked an FPS game. I'm talking about games that I'll play more than once. My favorite is without a doubt, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, so I'm inevitably gonna be weighing between the two.
I think there’s enough similar DNA between this and Old Blood to recommend it.
This Game is the Best Surprise Gem 💎of the Year
Almost certainly
I think you got me with the defenestration. Added to the list.
Love the short form review! Was on the fence about this game, this was exactly what I needed to hear to pull the trigger on a purchase. Thanks!
Hope you like it!
So you'd buy that for a dollar? 🤓
It's such a nice surprise that this is good! It kinda just chugged along in the background with not much fanfare but I love how it's becoming an instant cult hit. Everyone who has played it seems to absolutely love it.
It has that special sauce, definitely not gonna win any big E3 awards or be at the Game Awards, but people will be talking for years about “hey that Robocop game was really good!0
Thank you for mentioning this game and also this developer. When I saw IGN gave terminator a 4/10 I was so afraid they wouldn't get another property, but both of these games are real love letters to their source material.
You know mate, I'm a huge fan of 80's action movies and I love RoboCop. I plan to get this game and an Xbox series X for Christmas. It makes me wonder maybe we should get another Rambo game or Predator or Aliens or maybe a Die Hard or maybe even a Judge Dredd and Punisher game. The possibilities are endless and I feel like this could be a gold mine for passion and creativity to flow. One of my favourite games is Far Cry Blood Dragon a retro futuristic post apocalypstic game with Michael Biehn voicing Rex Power Colt, beautiful synth wave music, awesome one liners and it's a love letter to 80's sci-fi and action movies. Take care mate and greetings from Australia.
If you dig Blood Dragon you’ll dig this for sure. Maybe also pickup Terminator Resistance if you haven’t. While it’s not the same I also enjoyed Aliens Fireteam quite a bit in co-op
I played it on a Series X and have no issues.
I thought this would not be as satirical and critical of police militarisation, but you're selling me on this. I love Condemned and FEAR, so I'll give this a go.
The MW3 shade was on point
highly warranted shade. Cod is such a joke. Same trash but worse every year...
Robocop was and is one of my favorite movies. I definitely want to play this game given your review. Thanks for sharing 🤘
Thank you!
This sounds amazing! I'm not a stickler for incredible graphics, so the eurojank isn't an issue. A good story and system is way more important. Great vid!
Thank you! ☺️
Apart from the terrible framrate issues I’ve had on PS5 I’ve really enjoyed this blast from the past , the developers have absolutely nailed it even the car leaving the station is absolutely spot on :)
I also have the choppy PS5 version.. there are vids that say that the XBOX version is smoother.
You might try shifting to performance mode.
About to finish the Modern Warfare 3 Campaign. Will play this next, thanks! 💕x100
My biggest worry for this game when it was announced was that the satire would be lost with the cop power fantasy, but I'm glad to hear that isn't the case.
I love how you can really see the love from the devs in this and terminator and its so refreshing to see. Its earnest and lovely ❤️
Such a refreshing change from a majority of games I see nowadays
Just the day before this came out I stumbled over this and thought I'd look it up some time if it was for me ... and I think I'm definitely going to buy it.
Hope you enjoy it!
I have been playing Robocop for a few days. I am liking it a ton.
Same here!
Props to this studio from going from The Rambo Game, one of the worst games ever made, to Rogue City, one of the slickest FPS in years.
What makes me laugh are the comments I've seen from right aligned gamers saying how it's good that the dev didn't try to make it woke. I'm like, "Have you actually watched the first movie and paid any attention to the themes? It's woke AF."
Was really worried if this game was copaganda, but this really helps! Thank you!!
Glad I could help!
SO glad to hear it stays satirical 💯
Not gonna lie, I assumed this was just another asymmetrical multiplayer game where one player is RoboCop and other players are criminals to be caught or avoid capture. Totally ignored it, not my bag. Might just check it out now.
"it might not last 100 hours, it might not have a battle pass or content roadmap"
Those are pros, not cons lol
I completely agree! RoboCop is easily one of my favorite games this year
Oh cool, I was wondering if they actually got the point of the source material or not. It's weirdly difficult to just get a straight answer to that without a ton of spoilers. Much appreciated!
There’s a clear reverence for what was intended with the original. There are even plenty of hysterical radio commercials throughout that essentially take the place of the intercut commercial skits from the film.
@@deaddomain Right on, very good to hear. It's certainly going on my list.
This looks like it's gonna be able to scratch the blood dragon itch.
Damn. I've never seen robocop but you've sold me on this.
Yay!
Have you done a video or played Battlefield Hardline? I liked the campaign a ton. The TV crime drama presentation was a cool idea and made me think of Battlefield Bad Company. For being different from your typical military shooter.
"B-but woke people aren't meant to like first person shooters! Robocop isn't for the woke! Wah wah wah wah!" - Some internet gamer probably
This game really feels like a lost The Darkness and Riddick era Starbreeze title.
I am very leftist and I love copaganda. I don't know why, I just love the procedural nature of everything. All the rules and procedures please my autistic little brain I guess. I know the difference between fantasy and reality. In fact, it enhances my viewing of things like The Rookie or Law & Order, cause to me, it's aspirational. It's like "hey real cops, this is the minimum bar you should be setting, if you can't reach it, you shouldn't be doing your job."
There’s a video I want to make eventually on copaganda and why it’s a genre unto itself that shouldn’t be taken seriously because of how far removed from reality it usually is
Anything's going to be better than what titus put out all those years ago
This feels like a very dismissive comment on Teyon's current, stellar AA development and I don't want it to be misconstrued that way, I just wanted to pretend like I'm cultured or something.
I was wondering what every happened to on-rails shooters. That opening stage felt like pure arcade madness.
did he just throw a guy from a choke hold hard enough to explode a gas cylinder? yea i get the over the topness
Yes.
If we can't agree on politics we can definitely agree on this game and Terminator. Both are janky but fit right in with the original media. 😉
It is the first Robocop game ever to make you feel like you're actually playing Robocop with all his slow tankiness
This looks insanely fun omigooooosh! I had no intent on playing this until seeing this! Thanks for showing it off (and for calling me darling>:3 )!
Watching the footage here, I felt like there should be an option for non-lethal takedowns of human enemies.
Then I started wondering if there are any first-person shooters out there that allow for that. Only stealth games come to mind for me.
This is a great video. Sold me on getting it even though I don't like shooters, didn't spoil any of the story, very good review. I was about to say this could be your job but it is 😅
Thank you! I’m hoping to do more reviews in the future!
I'm so glad that the RoboCop franchise is getting interest. It's one of my favorite 'capitalism bad' 80s movies. I can't wait to eventually get my hands on the game :)
Also If anyone actually watched all the movies, RoboCop is very much anti cop because of how it points out the corruption within the system and how it feels unfixable except RoboCop DOES FIX IT. I love it so much, anyway ACAB.
hopefully they make a terminator game where you play as the terminator
If I could I'd def play this, it looks like brain off fun, but I like how there are slower moments
It’s definitely a good balance.
Babe wake up new Dead Domain 🖤
Alright I'll buy that for a dollar you got me
Just figured the bad character animation, bad voice sync and acting were just part of what the game was going for; it felt like such a throw back to the original deus ex game.
man this game looks so goddamn cool!
also, another amazing video as always, always a good day when there's more content from you
Awh thank you 💕
I'm trying not to fanboy, but your videos are so good!
Awh thank you 💕
aw hell yeah, i was thinking about picking this up
Huh! I saw some gameplay previews way before it came out and it really looked really rough.
I love Robocop though! Love the films, part 1 and 2 are great !
Part 3 gets really silly though the director of it had done some great stuff before it, Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps. But part 3 was a mess! Love the splatter punks in the beginning and when he is doing the jetpack because it was filmed in ATL and you can see the street and warehouse I lived at with for a few years with 8 or 9 people when he's jetpacking over Detriot 😂
I went deep as far as other robocop media too. There's the Sci-Fi channel movies they did that are... Scifi channel movies 😂 4 of them, I believe. They also have one of the worst fake mustaches I've ever seen with the main human cop character too.
There's also was a script floating around for the original part two, the Corporate Wars I read a long while back. The "I'd Buy That For a Dollar" guy is the president in that script too. I think they did a comic too with the corporate wars too? I could be wrong .
I've been playing the Calisto Protocals recently and it's pretty boring 😂 but on a pass so it's free.
I grew up playing 1ps though. If you say this game is aces, then it'll be the next game I'll play.
Great review 👍
Cheers, Dead!
The real Robocop 3.
I'm a huge fan of Robocop- (my Robocop tattoo was top of google image results for a few years, lmao) - and I still almost skipped this game because I'm just so used to the whole nostalgia bait shovelware trend.
I picked it up one pay day while I was really drunk....
And i love it. It's SO OBVIOUSLY made by people that loved the original movies, or at least GOT THEM. Every line murphy delivers could have been right out of those films. I remember completing a side objective back at the police station- another officer wants you to drag a puke covered drunken homeless man to the drunk cells- because the way she sees it, you are already "wearing" protective gloves.
You carry this man to a cell, every other officer remarking about how he smells disgusting, lay him down on a mattress in a holding cell, and then Robocop says
"Sleep Well...." To the dude.
And it's like that perfect blend of one-liner, awkward robotic inflection, and genuine caring for another person. They really get who murphy was supposed to be in the movies.
I never saw any Robocop movie.
But all the videos I saw about this game made me want to try it (with the Terminator game).
Watch Robocop and Robocop 2 before you play it.
Do it!!
And don't watch RoboCop 3. We don't talk about RoboCop 3.
All right, I will do my homework before playing it.
I'm almost envious of you getting to watch the first one for the first time. It's one of the best sci-fi films ever made.
I'm a lefty and RoboCop is my favorite film. I think a lot of people on the right don't get that it's making fun of the very things they seem to think it's championing.
I like to think of RoboCop as a dystopian conservative future and Demolition Man as a dystopian liberal future, and they both suck in their own way lol. The key lesson is that extremes in either direction are bad.
Anyway, the game is awesome. I got the Platinum but I'm still playing.
I’m fully planning on getting the platinum myself!
@deaddomain I'm almost finished with my second play through with different skills and fully plan on starting a third focusing on psychology, which I've ignored thus far.
Hoping for a NG+ 😊
"It may not have a content roadmap or a battlepass, but..."
No "but" lol, selling point for me these days >w
Saaaaaaame tho
thanks, I picked up the game based on your review.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
This really feels like Perfect Dark in a janky way. Im surprised they don't deduct you pay for property damage.
Ooh yeah it does have some Perfect Dark flavor
Robocop is yet another example of "conservative media" that is actually satirical of the people who don't know any better just the same as Starship Troopers (film) was a satire on fascist jingoism yet is beloved by the people who it makes fun of.
I probably will get it but when it's cheaper or 2nd hand. Too many games have been out recently and they aren't cheap. I think I would rather buy Robocop for its campaign than Call of Duty for a 4 hr campaign.
Oh absolutely get this instead of Modern Warfare 3. The quality is not even in the same league
One of these days we will get a good Warhammer fps rpg
Boltgun might be your best bet for now
I tried the demo and freakin LOVED it. Once I can afford to I plan to pick up the full game.
Oh my god I'm so excited to hear your thoughts on Alan Wake 2. Genuinely one of the best games I've ever played.
I’m loving it and need to find time to finish it
First I've heard of this, I'll give it a look
Thank you!
I found your channel through the political stuff but I love your gaming videos way more.
Yay! I’m glad to hear it!
OK. You convinced me.
That’s what I’m here for!
Based on what this video shows and what I’ve seen on FPS Twitter, Rogue City looks like the Robocop 3 we should’ve gotten.
Oh absolutely.
