Not too hard. She authorised Lyft to charge the card. If she didn't have funds to support the transaction, Lyft would have charged her via an offline payment which essentially forces the money out of the account because banks cannot decline offline transaction, so the transaction would have gone through and taken her into unauthorised overdraft.

Lyft and Uber will still pay the driver the cancel fee. Cancelling the card does nothing to hurt the driver. Additionally, she won't be able to use the service again until she pays up if she gets the bank to do a charge back. If you can't afford to go out, don't go out. And if you think an XL is too expensive for one person to pay for, they have ways to split the bill through both Uber & Lyft. Or there's Venmo, Zelle etc. Sounds like she has cheap ass friends.

I really don’t understand this. Not once in all my years have I 1) not tipped extremely well, 2) not been very appreciative of the service which provides affordable transportation, and 3) not expressed genuine appreciation for the person driving me when I’m unable to drive myself. The rules are simple, the rest is common decency. You sir are a patient person. Well done.
