Ed was being very perceptive about the music moving around and shifting from region to region. Back in the 90s you immediately knew where a rapper was from based on the production and his/her rapping style. The hip hop game was regional. Today, I could be in the Bay Area, travel to New York or Florida, turn on the radio and hear the same thing over and over again and not know where the rapper is from. Today most rappers sound like the Migos. I'm not really a fan but I think they are the most influential crew in hip hop. Ever. And I've seen a lot of crews in my lifetime. Not to mention I don't think there's ever been an area or genre of hip hop that has had a grip on hip hop like the down south, trap music fellas over twenty years. Ed is from the boom-bap era to which is my personal favorite.

Ed's definitely right about the trends in Hip Hop at the time. Even LL Cool J took a hit when Panther came out. Things were more Afro-centric at the time, and people were into that more than LL.
I believe Panther still went Platinum. LL's first 4 albums went Platinum and one of his most successful albums came out the very next year with Momma said. After that gangster rap ruled and LL's run was over.

It would’ve threw everything off. It wasn’t any type of disrespectful. Initially before the party actually knew what happened. Of course, I’ll gossip drama was perpetuated
