I think the modularity makes this a gun worthy of serious consideration. The price is not crazy high and the lack of needing a baseplate for spefic optics makes me want to investigate further. Another great and useful review. Thanks.
Update! I purchased one and it is an outstanding firearm. The fit for me is perfect. Recoil is not overly strong, and it runs as smooth as silk! The trigger pull is fairly lite and reset is excellent. I give it an A+. I really am very happy with the purchase. Try one. You just may feel the same, and no, I did not get it for free!😄
The Walter PDP and Canik Rival have great triggers. I am not sure I can give up a great trigger for a just good trigger with universal plate system with good open sight and chassis system from Croatia. Update: Before I get 20 more replies I know Canik design is based off a Walter design. I knew that last year before I bought my Rival. My point is while I like the some features of the Echelon that trigger still better be very good. One reviewer pointed out that it has the Glock grip angle. That will turn off those that do not like the Glock grip angle.
Caniks ARE Walthers. I tried my buddy's Hellcat and it had one of the worst triggers ever. If the Echelon is anything like that, this is a HARD pass. My Glock triggers are like glass after 1 range trip and 100 dry fires.
Time will tell on reliability but so many good options out there today. I think the biggest barrier to entry for most (well I’ll speak for myself) is already having the gear and mags for a particular model. This or the Beretta APX A1 would probably be my next pistol if not already being so invested in Glock. But either of those would be a great first pistol for a newer shooter or some not so invested in another platform.
That’s largely my reaction as well. I like the idea of a chassis system, and the universal mounting is appealing (assuming it works as intended), so I think everything here is pretty good. It’s just that I personally am not entirely sold on the idea of the added cost of additional gear, mags, etc, and parts and such being new and proprietary. Honestly, I myself am not a major fan of stock Glocks, but there’s SO MUCH aftermarket support for them, and that I DO like having.
I have the original apx and a glock 19 and my brother has the a1 and they are amazing guns! Think I am more accurate with them. Holsters are an issue for the a1 but hopefully more company's will start to produce them. It was the same with the old apx for the first few years.
Awesome video! Concerning holes in the head, I said the same thing about the SIG 365 over five years ago. I've been carrying one ever since I got hands on it. 😁
I would’ve made this gun with a 4inch barrel for the full size. That way all they would need is to make a 15 round “compact” grip module and 15 round magazines and you’d be able to swap between full size and compact. Most duty ammo is optimized for a 4” barrel anyways. This handgun looks like a great contender in this genre.
I like that concept too. It is a nice product. I just have enough 9mm Striker types lol. Couple Caniks. I did pickup a XDM Elite Compact Osp in .45 acp. First Springfield I have owned since the HS 2000. Those sights had me concerned until I shot it. They actually work well. Infact, I will proberly leave my XDM without Red Dot. This pistol is nice. Springfield may have hit a home run with this one.
Since hs produkt is involved, I think it will be super reliable. If it is reliable and Springfield follows through with the modularity, it will definitely be worth considering along side the 320. I'll be getting one either way. I love the hellcat grip texture so I already know I'll like the comfort more than the 320
It has some nice features. No need to pull the trigger for takedown. Chassis system. 20 round magazines. Multiple optics choices without a plate. Glock style safety. Picatinny rail. Co-witness sights. Real Ambidextrous magazine release, instead of an Ambi-Friendly switchable release. Squared off trigger guard. Great serrations on the slide and "ears" for better grip when racking the slide. Great trigger. The only negative might be the lack of choices in frame sizes at product launch. Probably should have gotten those ready for the launch.
I have a Springfield XD Sub-compact and it's more accurate than my Shield. But my Shield fits my small female hand better...lol..I was at the store buying ammo today, and a customer was asking about this gun. I'd love to test this gun...Great video
I still have my Glock 19 gen 2. I have really found nothing that will do what I need any better in 9mm. That said, Up until recently , I carried a 1911A1 .45 acp. But with the changes I have made in my 58 year old life, I now simply carry a Snub nose .38 SPL or a Beretta 70s. My 1911s are still close by if needed though. 👍
I will fully admit, I come here for the obscure movie and pop culture references while simultaneously loving the snarky product roasting on certain items. We must save James Reeves at all costs. Once again, fantastic take on this.
The fact it fits a 6000 series Safariland holster already is big in my book. I know Springfield made mistakes in the past, but I really feel like they are one of the companies that is trying to listen. This pistol appears like they took their time and pieced together something that will probably do well. Personally I would have loved to see the Beretta APX gain traction, but it seems that even the redesign is struggling to gain enough of a following to get people interested in designing grip modules.
I'm a Springfield fanboy and I bought an xd week one of their launch because I wanted it over the glock. Was not a fan of the xdm or xds models but jumped on a hellcat pro. I've been moving away from polymer guns but if it has the fit and feel of a "larger" hellcat pro I might be tempted to pick one up. But none compare to my TRP Operator... that's still my favorite Springfield in my collection.
Not a springfield fan but this is actually pretty cool looking. The optic mounting system is very similar to Shadow systems I think thats gonna be the new trend and eliminate plates. Still gonna stick to my Caniks though
I've got a Shadow Systems MR920. The only "Complaint" I have with it is that it doesn't have a chassis, so I'm stuck with the grip length it came with. Nothing wrong with that, but definitely is a bit of a gripe in the world of chassis pistols. This seems like it ticks all the boxes. Glock bore axis. Shadow systems cut. Sig chassis system. Disassembly without a trigger pull. If it proves reliable, and the aftermarket adequately supports the design, then I can see myself picking up the Echelon and moving to it as my main handgun.
Funny how people are gonna trash on Springfield in the comments and say other guns are better. Meanwhile their favorite companies are literally using their customers as their Quality Control and having massive lawsuits. You don't want it don't buy it.
I like it, i think Springfield nailed it. Its what most shooters want these days. And im a Sig guy personally, but ive shot and been around a few Springfields and they make a good product. If i was shopping for a new piece id get it.
How do you not like the sights? I haven't found another system that is easier to use. I was shocked the first time is saw them. Best iron sights on the market.
G17 lives in my SHTF holster but my everyday carry is a Hellcat Pro. My woods carry is an XDM 10mm. This pistol is intriguing. I might becoming a Springfield fanboy.
First impression is that they spent a lot of time on design and gave this gun everything the typical buyer would want to see. Ergos look great, optics platform is very cool, if it functions, thumb ledges on both sides, I like the lever take down, the texture looks like it's goldilocks for "most", the slide milling is awesome, etc. A blend of design ques from quite a few different manufacturers all wrapped up in a nice package. Interested to see what the compact version will look like, but if you're a competition shooter, that model looks pretty sweet. OPTIONS ARE AWESOME.
@@GeauxRussGeaux I don't see why being Croatian is bad. Austrian, Turkish, German, Czech, lots of great firearms are produced around the globe. I have CZs, HKs, and an Arex, and they are all excellent quality firearms. So I'm not sure what the origin has to do with it. As for the design, it looks well thought-out.
Ill wait and see if Springfield or another company ACTUALLY make different sized grip modules for this. In 2018, i bought the original Masada, which was "modular", and here we are in 2023, IWI nor anyone else has made a SINGLE different sized grip module for that "modular" pistol.
Definitely considering this gun as I've been wanting a P320 but vecause of the accidents I don't trust them. The fact this one has all the features I like about the Sig that made it where you can change the body of the gun but use the trigger mechanism I love that! Been waiting for one like the P320, just not Sig
This firearm, to me anyway, looks like a Glock 19 and a P320 were left alone in the safe together for to long and when it was opened, this was sitting between them.
I noticed the comment no issues from SA Hellcat. I have one and had about 1,500 rounds no issues. Then started having issues, sent it to IL for them to fix it. When it came back I had 4 slide locked back with cartridges in magazine and 1 went into battery and crushed bullet. 5 FTF out of 159 shots, 31.4,% failure rate. SA currently has it and I think they screwed me on this, it doesn't run well for a SD pistol. I would recommend wait several years on this new one.

I have not put my hands on the Echelon, but the milled slide and the 30 optic options without needing a plate is my favorite thing about this firearm.
I'm gonna be waiting for comparisons with the 320 on this one. Looks promising.
I will get one in the FALL when gun shops have them in stock but I really should just get the 45 or 10MM one next summer
Icarus Precision is gonna jump all over this modular FCU 🔥🔥 Fantastic job by Springfield 👍🏾👍🏾
Icarus is the wayyyy love my ace evo xl
I have dual icarus p365's and they make me wet every time i see them
I always pictured James's suits having short shorts instead of trousers. A sorta Angus Young look, but more Florida-y.
Give it a bit, and I'm sure Canik will have an FCU gun of their own.
A modular CANIK trigger pack... 🤤🤤🤤

@@WaterZer0t would be a thousand times better then this piece of garbage
Caniks ARE Walthers.
I tried my buddy's Hellcat and it had one of the worst triggers ever. If the Echelon is anything like that, this is a HARD pass. My Glock triggers are like glass after 1 range trip and 100 dry fires.
@@9unslin9ercap. They making glass out of hot dog paste now? Unless you have a 1500$ gucci glock i refuse to believe its like glass
Appreciate the no BS review. Great channel, strong work. BZ
Glocks Blue Label Program keeps me coming back though. Plus they're the OG's of the polymer striker fired game.
Since hs produkt is involved, I think it will be super reliable. If it is reliable and Springfield follows through with the modularity, it will definitely be worth considering along side the 320. I'll be getting one either way. I love the hellcat grip texture so I already know I'll like the comfort more than the 320
HS PRODUKT builds all the xd pistols they always have been involved xd, xdm, XDS ,hellcat, xdm elite ,this.all HS
I like their guns a lot.

Yo.
Ok I have watched 3 other videos and this is the best one yet.
It's perfect in its simplicity, but complex in its subtlety.
Got mine today! Love the xdm so natural choice to step up
I have high hopes. I hope since it’s a COG fire group system I hope it can get added to the CA Roster 😬 like the CA 320
The Sig P320-M18 just got added to the CA roster.
I’m just glad to see some competition for Sig’s P320 modular concept.
The peg-insert mounting platform is pretty much what Strike Industries have been using on their optic-cut slides for awhile now.
Bringing back the great memories. Currently enjoying those summer showers everyday at about 4pm!
Seems the p320 has got some MASSIVE competition.
The. Best. Channel. Period
Grip modularity will be a big deal to me when it allows significant changes to grip angle. I would love to see that.
Yeaaa.. the one downside to the apx is the aftermarket, which is a huge shame. That and they completely missed the mark either the carry versions
I duty carry my echelon in a 6360rds
This pistol looks to be very thought-out and tested and re-tested prior to release. I’m impressed. May get it and put the DR920 to the side.
I’m just gonna do a version of that bit from borat at gun stores from now on.
just point at every single handgun and go “what kind of glock is this”
I'm a Springfield fanboy and I bought an xd week one of their launch because I wanted it over the glock.
Shadow system optic cut was king before this. We will see if it dethrones the shadow systems cut.
Yes those 3:00 afternoon thunderstorms that last 15 mins can really soak you. I really enjoy the steam coming off the pavement afterwards.
Looks pretty good. I will wait for the new CZ to see what they are coming out with.
Where did you see that they’re releasing something new? Share link please
TFB TV James Reeves. I also saw on Facebook that him and Eric G have a special on Julie 18th. Hopefully that’s when the announce it.

Was great to meet you this past weekend at the Air Show
Springfield Armory is slowly making me love them. They just work and perform above their price
Yup. That’s what converted me too, my xDM is a remarkable piece, very enjoyable and dependable

how cool would it be if they offered this in 9mm AND 10mm
Great video. Been contemplating getting one.
This gun looks promising. I'm eager to see how it performs with other reviewers and to the general public in the first wave of release.
@@GeauxRussGeaux like say the Halosun vs RMR ? Lol
Be safe man, it's all good. I completely get where you're coming from.
@@GeauxRussGeaux your opinion is your opinion. It doesn't mean it's a good one.
So, essentially it's just a Croatian P320.
The take down pin looks identical.
I wonder if it'll be drop safe or have all the sear engagement (or sudden lack thereof) problems the p320 had.
Ill wait and see if Springfield or another company ACTUALLY make different sized grip modules for this. In 2018, i bought the original Masada, which was "modular", and here we are in 2023, IWI nor anyone else has made a SINGLE different sized grip module for that "modular" pistol.
Very interesting! I’ve always felt like Springfield never got the love it deserved over the XD line.
They got exactly what they deserved
The XD is trash.
The XD line deserves no love. It is possibly the worst modern production pistol.
@@andrewbalsman I disagree. I own an early XD 5” in .40 S&W and I love it. Very reliable and very accurate.
@@andrewbalsman I’ve shot mine in USPSA and shot some of my best scores. Respectfully I think you are wrong
Definitely considering this gun as I've been wanting a P320 but vecause of the accidents I don't trust them. The fact this one has all the features I like about the Sig that made it where you can change the body of the gun but use the trigger mechanism I love that! Been waiting for one like the P320, just not Sig
What accidents?
This firearm, to me anyway, looks like a Glock 19 and a P320 were left alone in the safe together for to long and when it was opened, this was sitting between them.
Still working on filming mine. Impressed so far but haven't shot it yet! We will see!
Facts 🙌🏽 I wouldn't trust my life with a Springfield firearm 💀
Looks good, i like that you don’t need plates but I do wish they had gone with a 1911 grip angle and sig 320 magazine compatibility.
Awesome, downright blunt honest review as always! Best gun reviewer on RUclips.
I don’t give two f*cks who you are, or what name is on your pocket p*ssy.
Springfield Armory makes a Rolls Royce of a pistol.
My antique XD Mod 2, 4” is the best handling, best shooting and most accurate polymer pistol I’ve ever shot. With an awesome trigger straight out of the box. I don’t give two sh*ts who makes it, or what country it comes from. A good product is a good product regardless… 👍🤘👏
I have a tendency to like Springfield products. My first handgun was an XD 9mm. I tried Glock, but I didn't like the pistol grip angle. I have the Hellcat and Hellcat Pro, and both are excellent guns. I really enjoy shooting them. I will have to save a few dollars and get the Eschelon. It will pair well with my Ronin, Emissary, and MC Operator.
I like their 1911s and I have an M1A.

Well if I don’t like Glocks why buy this then? This is clearly another Glock clone but with Sigs garbage FCU concept inside.
James, I think that intro sums this gun up perfectly.. Lol.
You know which new gun I'm actually excited for? Surprisingly, it's a Taurus.. The TH45 has my attention.. I think I need one of those.
So this is why I was able to pick up an XDM Elite Precision for $390 last week.
the modular aspect is nice and would love to see more products with it
the major downside is proprietary mags 🙄
In theory if they sell the cog separately you can just buy the cog and maybe someone will make an aftermarket grip for it that takes glock mags
I wouldn't call it a major downside considering every large manufacturer uses proprietary mags unless their business is making clones of another popular platform; I'd just call it pretty standard.
I used to hate on Springfield big time with their XD series and lack of innovation, but I have to give it to them with the Hellcat and now the Echelon. Never thought I'd be recommending Springfield products to my peers, yet here I am.
If it's tough enough, plateless optics mounting is very enticing.
Sending your slide out to be milled for your specific optic is 1000x better than any optics mounting product/solution.
You are so right I don't like Glocks in fact I sold all 4 that I bought and ended right back with the Sig p320 X Compact that is a very good looking firearm I still have a hangup giving Springfield any money I just may end up trying one out great video as always!!!
Fuck yeah, I get to wait for this to make it on the CA handgun roster, likely in single shot so I can pay extra then more for an fame that will take a CA complaint mag.
Just kidding James,
Pls keep up the best gun content ever!
Just bought a Hellcat Pro ..... mostly b/c the fitment to my hand is perfecto (over the Sig Macro). This is the daddy pistol so looking forward to fondling and shooting one.
The Hellcat has proved to be a great pistol for my wife.
First time watching you, as I'm a creature of habit and stick to my circle. Great review. Subscribed. Thanks.
If all this turns out to be true and works practically as well as theoretically, here we have the best glock ever!
I love how they put all nice features from other guns in this one, e.g. HK slide wings, p320 modularity, pdp ergos, glock ugliness…
