As an Indonesian, I approve this!!! This looks amazing!!! I bet the sauce is super delicious and the way you cook tempeh is just right! The tempeh is perfectly cooked and a little crispy which is perfect. Also, the caramelized effect makes it look super beautiful!!!

that pan searing was amazing, any beans that go through such process can get crispy without excessive oil, so you can go with extra oil during the seasoning or glazing, nice

Wow! What can I say? Last week I became enthrawled by the possibility of making my own tempeh. That was a successful project, and this morning (2:00 AM) it went into parchment paper and the fridge. At about 9:00, my wife informed me that she had a friend coming over and what could we serve for food. I had seen this recipe and thought I would try it with my fresh tempeh. (I have Korean ingredients handy.) I served this recipe, mixed veggie stir fry without seasoning, and coconut rice. Also, homemade kimchi just out of a 14 day ferment. Wife's friend brought a green salad. An incredible lunch, but the spicy gochujang tempeh was a star of the show. Sweet and savory and nutty and spicy all at the same time. I did not have the rice syrup so I substituted an agave-maple syrup mix, and added some mushroom bullion powder to give more umami. Thank you, 1-2-3 Kimchi!

I agree tempeh does get very little attention. It is EXTREMELY hard to find where I am and if you do, it is over priced as well. What tempeh I have found is also very different from what I have experienced in Indonesia too. I was very surpried too that when I first started looking for this I figured my best bet was an Asian market but, at everyone I stopped at here they had not even heard of it, I had to pull up pictures to show them. The only place I know where I can get it is it Trader Joes.
