It's amazing how much greener it is outside when you're looking outside from the inside of the car... and yet it's all desert when you're outside looking in.
Haha, in all the external shots they are in the desert, then all the shots in the vehicles, they are in regular suburban streets with trees lining the roads :)
I noticed that pretty quick. The whole series is filled with scenes like that. I would blame the editor/s but sometimes poor lighting or bad film stock could require reshoots and new filming permits so I'm betting that in some cases they just made due with what they could get away with.
They didn't care as much back then because they were on a low budget/quick tv shooting schedule back then. Also, these aired twice a year and no one really looked at them so closely. There's shots of the car without a windshield, out of focus freeze frames leading to commercials and one really glaring one where the film was reversed and Michael is driving Kitt from the right side. It's actually a medium shot of Michael taken from the window, it looks likes he's sitting on the passenger side, then a shot later he gets out from the left side. That's from season 1 or 2. Back then, not enough time to fix it before air, if they even noticed.
KITT: Michael, put it in reverse! **Seconds later** KITT: Michael, why reverse? We could have jumped over. Um KITT, did you forget what you just told Michael to do a few seconds ago?
Yeah, I think most vehicles could actually do almost that tops in reverse, It's just that most people wouldn't be doing more then a easy 5 mph in reverse in most of any instance at almost any time.
@@morganrussman 45kph yes, not 45mph... 1:11 In addition to the other gaffs people pointed out, I'm curious why they'd show an image of the dash on the monitor when they could've just shown the dash. Season One had a few episodes with weird little things, for me it doesn't take away from the overall awesomeness of this show though. Just my two cents.
KITT show the "Security Alert" on the monitor to get Michaels attention faster, and besides that word "Security Alert" is no where on the Dash, but "Surveillance Mode" is, if you ever watch "Just my Bill" in season 1, Michael turns the surveillance mode down
Actually, most cars with an automatic can go that fast in reverse. The reverse ratio is usually very close to the transmission's 1st gear ratio, as the same gearset is used for reverse (just by locking the sunshell or carrier as well as the low/reverse clutch). Since torque converters multiply torque when a great input/output speed differential exists, most automatic transmissions have tall 1st gears. I had a 1994 infiniti q45 with a raised, 7700rpm rev limiter. That car could just about hit 70mph in reverse, and could comfortably do 30mph all day (in REVERSE). I seriously doubt they were even going 30mph while filming that stunt.

Real car chases with any new type of car is going to fall apart, but the older cars are what America used for many crashes and such. Plus with the yesteryear vehicles you could do a lot with them . I would never try any real stunt with newer vechicles unless there are many modifications done first for safety.
Old two stick transmissions in semi's are rumored to run fast in reverse. Reverse is on the Main trans. The second stick is the augsulary trans with 4 speeds in it so you can shift in reverse. I'm not very good. I get scared in a tri axle dump truck in reverse at 35 mph. Hey it was a one lane road in central Ky. And we were 3 miles from the paver. I had six trucks behind me and six in front. Fun stuff.
Technically, if you swap in a 2.14:1 axle ratio, which existed for that rear axle, and if you borrowed an 8500-RPM NASCAR engine, which would bolt in the exact same as the 305 those Trans Ams came with, you'd be fairly close.
I like how KITT has at least two in-dash monitors, and he used one to show a video of an LED "Security Alert" bar. Apparently zero of them are connected to a rear-facing camera, though.
You mean a backing up camera? Why would anyone want to use a back up camera? In my eyes, a back up camera is about the laziest way to back up. Plus, if you got caught up in the situation that was presented to Micheal and K.I.T.T, and you were to even try and do what had to be done in this video with a back up camera, I feel like you'd be off the road in probably seconds. That being mostly due to the idea, at least in my perspective, no real depth perception in trying to keep someone on the road. Of course, the argument could be that the back up camera was only designed to be used in short bursts, but, still. I still see the back up camera as a lazy way to back up, plus, it still really doesn't help you that much to actually get you to back up. In my eyes, the idea of a back up camera helps about 10% in actually properly getting you backed up.
