How is it that almost all gun RUclipsrs have become totally insufferable over the years yet Paul has stayed totally unaffected and as genuine as ever. Seriously Paul, thanks for all you do.
Because they’re usually in it for a paycheck and “fame.”
True. I left some gun channels I was looking at since they slowly became entertainement more than a real informative gun channel. I note too those channels are running by insufferable Glock- and tactical-tards.
Well said!
Paul, Forgotten weapons and MAC are the only ones I can still find reliable information on. Some great gun channels have gone down the drain, praising garbage firearms because companies will send them their products and ammo. Cough sootch cough.
I was insufferable long before RUclips. Mr. Harrell, on the other hand, is not.
I had a nightmare where I was being chased by a meat target wearing a new and improved high-tech fleece bullet stop, and I only had a Smith & Wesson Model 30 chambered in .32 Long loaded with Federal 85 grain jacketed hollow points. I emptied the gun at it but it kept chasing me. I tried to reload it, but I didn't hit the ejector rod hard enough, so I reached into my 1975 shooting jacket for my backup gun but all my pockets were only full of Shasta brand two liter soda bottles so I died.
This is gold.
Now that is a good nightmare.
Damn, you too?
Maybe me laugh 😂 outloud !
I had nightmares of dreaming of pursuing meat goals and new obstacles to the cotton ball. I only have a Smith & Wesson 32. Long bundle of empty things, envelopes 85. I shot, but he was chasing me. I tried to put it together, but there was no damage to the ship, so I contacted him in 1975. My gun jacket served as an extra weapon, but I was dead from all the bags with just 2 liters of soda.
Paul is the only person who I'd dedicate 42 minutes of my life to watch clean a firearm.
Yep, only Paul makes it entertaining enough. And, most times, we are either reminded or informed of something we may have forgotten or didn't know. Rock on Paul!
Your VERY valuable 42 minutes? Lol

It's crazy how many people would rather watch Paul clean dirty weapons than watch any of the garbage on tv.
Hate to be "that guy" but all the garbage on tv is the result of hebraic monopoly that extends far beyond media. You're right though, that's probably why we're all here.
I like guns and I don't like tv 🤷♂️
I always know I'm learning something when I watch paul. I will take all the wisdom I can get
Yeah I would guess that in the next 50 years standard programming will be dead in the water completely. Nobody really sits and watches bland sitcoms anymore. . . well, not all the time anyways.

Lets put some happy little drops of lube on the BCG and lets say a few more live over here on the trigger guard.
Don’t care how much I “know” about guns, cars or home maintenance, I always appreciate the viewpoint of someone with experience.
I am a combat veteran, I cleaned my weapons many thousands of times during my career, but there is always something anyone can learn from a man with more experience.
This man is a valuable resource.
Do you agree with cleaning the way he showed? Come on! That is not black powder!

I'm not gonna lie, the topic itself (gun cleaning) is rather boring. Paul however, is not. He's a freaking legend. Rumor has it that he's killed a buck with his bare hands.

Paul’s voice and sound of him cleaning rifle parts is very therapeutic
ASMR
Yep. I thought the same thing. Just needs to go almost to a whisper and you'd have a grade A ASMR.
I find his voice exceptionally effective. I learn far better with voices that are non aggressive.
You already know that it’s therapeutic to him as well
Paul Harrell is to sportsman as Mr. Rogers is to toddlers. Highly effective in developing a better person. Won't you be my neighbor?
I always new Paul was brave. But leaving his pins on a picnic table is practically heroic.
I had 1 freggin hole in my picnic table where a knot use to be & you got it, one pin rolled then fell through. You think it would be easy to find LMFAO, Ya me too, had to get a speaker magnet to find it. took about 45 mins. I filled that hole in with epoxy soon after.
Pretty sure he has another gun somewhere in his pockets and a ton of extra pins just to be safe
You took the words right out of my mouth. When I saw his disassembled bolt on the table I said out loud “brave man”.
The pin is too scared to roll off the table.
@Andrew Rockwell thank your for your service. I'll live it as a historical representation of what happened.
I hope Paul doesn’t start doing reverse mortgage commercials, His trust worthy demeanor could probably sell me on it.
He IS a natural seller. I used to be a sales manager. I would hire him if instead of "you be the judge" he closes an offer and says "okay".
Having never been in the military your video taught me ( 1) I really haven't done a very good job of cleaning my rifle (2) how to do it correctly and (3) your videos are priceless for those with no formal training....thanks for the information...
Thanks, I rally saw at my inner eye how Paul showed his pointing finger when I read (1) and the list goes on ... thank you for that smile.
"Sometimes I believe this rifle was designed like this just to frustrate me. People tell me that's not true." Without even cracking a smile. Sometimes the harder a person tries to be funny, they less funny they actually are. This was a case of subtlety making all the difference.
He reminds me of a few of my favorite professors (who weren’t leftist nut jobs).
Tons of shooting then ammo shortage. Good time to clean.
Deadpan humor is the finest type, and Paul is the master of it.
Paul is kinda like a disgruntled Bob Ross. But it's his lifes frustrations that are therapudic to listen to. Love you Paul!
It is comedic genius which Mr. Harrell often inserts into his videos. Perhaps people are too serious or overly exposed to sophomoric silliness to see the jest in intellectual wit.
Thank you Paul, I'm a young gun lover, and I didn't have a father to teach me a lot of the things you do. Just know your proffesionalism and expertise don't go unnoticed. Don't let any of the assholes get to you.

@rogerwilco99 that's true, there are some. But that being said some things can only be taught when they are understood and being a female it's difficult to understand/teach certain things that you haven't experienced
@rogerwilco99 i get what he means though. i can do most stuff guys can, but boys need male mentors too. theres something important about confidence that happens there.

It never crossed my mind to try and use soap and water, as I only use CLP until my patches run clean. Its good to learn something new. Thanks Paul.
I also don't go to this extent to clean my guns. Just lots of quality lube few paper towels a bore snake few Q tips. But I also don't put the rounds down range this fine educator does. Great video!
@@derekchecketts8461 Yeah but you really should be this thorough in most cleanings, if you dont have the time every once in a while it's totally okay, but gun maintenance is not the time to be lazy! I've run across some seriously overlooked areas on used guns a few times. You're not really saving time by skipping steps, you're just passing it on to the next person who will do a proper cleaning + a whoooole lot of time
I will never use soap and water that way!
I use dawn dish soap and hot water. Scrub everything real good ,rinse, then use a air compressor, then a hair dryer, little lube and a oil rag and done. Simple an easy

42 minutes of someone using water and a bar of soap to clean their firearms no less. That's sure to raise some eyebrows. He's not wrong though; I've also been taught to use water and soap in the U.S Army for the M-16/M-4. But one drill sergeant suggested (Barbasol) foamy shaving cream...
This is probably the most Fred Rogers style of presentation Paul has done so far. Educational and calming, and still entertaining (to the right audience).
Agreed. Would put me right to sleep if I wasn't so interested in his approach.

27:00 I know the Beretta 92FS is easy to field strip, but seeing it happen without looking and while taking and looking at the camera is like up close magic.
Thanks for adding time stamp.
As Military Police, that pistol was part of my daily life. We had races to see who could field strip the fastest and still retain the recoil spring and rod.
Being left handed was an advantage and nobody I ever met beat my 1.7 seconds to have it apart, on the table, under control.
This!👍
Paul Harrell addresses something he considers boring and tedious.
Me: popcorn, baby!!! Gonna learn me some stuff!
One of the many things I took away from this vid: Never eat at the picnic table at your local range.
Tablecloth?
WHY? Because there is not enough bird crap on it for you?
As a guy who just got his first firearm a few months ago, this was incredibly educational. Even things as small as how much lubricant to use or is it okay to use the bore brush to clean stubborn carbon can be a mystery to new owners. Not to mention soap and water! With all the cleaning products to choose from, I would never have thought to use regular soap and water. Thanks Paul
I gotta say I felt the same and I’ve been a gun owner for 40 yrs almost. I used to go to the range every week or two to shoot 500 rds but went alone because I couldn’t find anyone to go with.
I guess I should have joined the Marines like so many others to learn proper weapons training. Or not.

And he is using a toothbrush.
I'm a little surprised he didn't have compressed air, a dental handpiece and a bunch of picks.
"Now that we have cleaned all the carbon build up, we will polish the surfaces. What flavor would you like? Mint or banana?"
How many people have had a firearms related question that Paul Harrell has answered, in a new video, just days after thinking about it?
Sometimes I was not thinking it but should have been.
Not kidding, I was thinking about asking him to do a video like this YESTERDAY!
I’m having BCG issues right now. This man is saving me

I would add, having smoked a pipe, make sure you get actual pipe cleaners--from the smoking section--not arts and crafts pipe cleaners. The arts and crafts pipe cleaners will shed everywhere and are not meant to be used to clean anything.

VERY interesting...this is the first time I’ve seen water used for cleaning a smokeless powder gun. Even in the Marines back in the ‘70s, CLP was the only cleaner recommended. Water equals rust.
I’m not dragging Paul; he’s quite satisfied with this cleaning procedure.
I am tickled to see Q-Tips and pipe cleaners used!

@@whiteyfisk9769the metal used in a rifle like this won’t rust overnight, either you’re lying, or you were somehow misinformed, i mean think about it, do you think these rifles just rusted into nonexistence in the rainy and humid jungles in Vietnam? they were designed to be abused in a variety of ways, including rain.
Ahhh… it’s actually satisfying and relaxing watching Paul clean the parts of the rifle. It’s taking me back to those good ol’ ARMY days when you and your unit would be cleaning weapons for hours after firing at the range.
And for some reason, the armorer would always find carbon in the star chamber and hand you your / the rifle back and say: “Clean it again.” Before returning the weapon back into the armory.

Couldn't find it, and I was having a mini stroke, one for dropping the pin and losing it, and two, knowing I was gonna get smoked by my drill for losing it. Luckily, a buddy found it for me, so crisis averted.
I remember something similar happening with one of my buddies in ait in our barracks and I remember after telling the drill that was there he made us stand at arms length and walk back and forth to find that pin. The thing that sucked was our ct area had a rock training pit, so every step we had to stop and make sure the bouncing tiny object wasn't the pin. He ended up finding it in his cleaning kit.

I was once paddling my kayak to shore and took a spill and had to swim a fair distance with my, s&w m69 and ruger holy action rifle on me. I'm glad I watched it. Never got any 'formal' training on how to clean guns, just the stuff I picked up and figured out. Knowing about rinsing with water (that I can actually do it with things other than AK's and SKS's) was worth the watch. Same for using soap and water.
Thanks for doing that.
The only people who reliably get "formal training" on cleaning firearms are enlisted Army and Marine Corps and certified gunsmiths. It's always a good idea to get an older vet to teach you to clean firearms, because a gunsmith will probably charge you more than a 6 pack of beer and a few smokes.
Same here.
Soap and water is ONLY helpful for corrosive ammo. Most all 5.56/.223 is not corrosive. No need for his soap and water. It's not needed to take off carbon residue.
@@videodistro nobody said it was needed. Just that it's effective.

From what I got out of this vidjéo is that if you keep it properly oiled, soap and water is enough to get the carbon fouling off making it unnecessary to use hopes and other specialized cleaners. The oil keeps it from baking onto the steel/aluminum and the soap is enough to take the oily carbon off.
I've watched this at least four times. Why? Because it's comfortable to be immersed in competence, experience and knowledge.
January 31, 2024: Paul Harrell reaches 1M Subscribers. A tribute to a worthy man. Thank you, Paul!
Cleaning guns isn't as fun as shooting them.
But is an absolutely vital facet of firearms ownership.
So I very much appreciate you doing a good detailed video on this subject, Paul!
Tomorrow: National shortage of 409, Ivory soap, patches, Hoppes #9, CLP... and not a single t-shirts to be found at any GoodWill stores. 😂
This made me laugh.
Can’t afford to shoot it, might as well clean it!
2020 gun market in nutshell 👍
“Aims at nail on the wall” pew Pew pew pew
Snap Caps...
watching this as I dryfire 😁
Yep. This Ammo & reloading Supply shortage it's taking its toll at our local gun club. 4,000 members and there's hardly anybody showing up there. They've cancelled a lot of events. I read an article yesterday that the problem is with the unavailability of primers is causing the ammo shortage. There are conspiracy theories going around that somebody is going after the manufacturers that produce the raw materials to make primers. Fortunately after the last time 6 years ago I started stocking up on this stuff every chance I got. Ammo and reloading supplies.
I just love that Paul is an honest man trying to pass knowledge. So many channels are meme channels just trying to get likes. I always want more Paul.
I want to say thank you for this video. I just got a Boosteady gun cleaning kit and your video definitely helped me with cleaning and inspection process thoroughly.I would like to say that I really recommend the Boosteady gun cleaning kit. It is a great product at a reasonable price. This is a very complete kit that includes brushes, jags, and loops for just about every caliber and gauge you're likely to run into. If you have a variety of calibers and gauges, this set has you covered.
Wasn't bored one minute, you held my attention the whole time.
Hoppe's #9 is like a fine cologne.
Agreed. Love the smell!
With less burning sensation.

It might not be good for getting the ladies, but it would be just the ticket for a woman trying to get a man.
J S. Love that comment.
I just love how technical Paul can be in his descriptions and for one I thank you!
Thanks Paul, your videos are always a pleasure
Stop what you’re doing and listen up. Paul is speaking.
Maybe, but my firearms are clean and functional.
"Detailed cleaning & plenty of lube is EXTREMELY important" best paul harrell quote ever.
Saved my marriage
Definitely words to live by.
I‘ve learned so much from Paul over the years. And I often come back to older videos for a „refresher course”. He is a great teacher and I really appreciate the time he puts in to share his knowledge and experience with all of us.
His current condition hits very close to home for me. So I wanted to take this opportunity to say: „Thank you Paul!“
I appreciated your insights and methodology on this subject Paul - Great advice - Thank you for posting
Paul is about the only guy I know of who could actually make this interesting enough to watch all the way through.
Paul, May we please have one for shotguns, and arms with wooden furniture? i feel like these would be quite a different thing, especially give that wood is more susceptible to ingress, and shotguns are so common.
plus, i really enjoyed this, and a pt2 would be great! thank-you either way.
Yes! Shotty please! Hmm.. wonder if he has experience bluing.😁
Watching you clean your gun is way more entertaining than watching politicians blame each other for the current situation of our society! Thank you for sharing
I love this man so much, he’s such an amazing content creator. Such detailed yet simple content. It’s easy to watch and also entertaining. Thankyou for everything
