This is an excellent video Ray! I was a unit armorer my first 3 yrs in the Infantry and I loved showing all of the guys in my unit how to maintain everything from the M2 heavy barrel machine gun to the M1911A1 pistol. The only time the fellas in my unit didn’t like me was when I inspected their weapons on return from the range or training exercises and sent them back to clean it better. It was so awesome to go out and have everyone shoot good and not have major issues with their weapon. If they did have malfunctions I usually had it remedied right away or fixed it when we got back in garrison. So I really liked your video and your explanation for the reasons of why it is important to do the things involved to maintain your weapon properly.
First, I would like give thanks to the RUclips gods of Algorithim and Recommendations for bringing me here. IDC if this was the right/correct way, like you had mentioned, as your way seems FAR better than my rookie approach to cleaning my AR's. Malo for the great instructional vid. Also, I see some J DEWEY cleaning kits in my near future. 😆🤙
This is well made video. From explanation to camera angles and view points of what's being done. And he is doing it on a DDM4V7 Tornado Grey, I love mine so much!
I am a Dutch shooter, owning a Colt Sporter H-bar and never dared to take it apart. Watching this video i learned how to take the boltcarrier apart and put it back together again. Thanks a lot!
BrianOnTheGo Eah, he was pretty clear this was his way. Leaving a thin coat of corrosive solvent without being neutralized all over everything and putting oil in the exhaust ports are where I differ.
Watching 3 years later (according to youtube date) and appreciating the hell out of this. I'm former military and learned a new trick or two from this. Thank you!
I have watched about a dozen of videos showing this but most of theim either poor video quality or info not to the point. Best, to the point, clear view video out there.
As a new AR owner I sincerely appreciate this video. I enjoyed this clear, concise, and easy to follow video that most posters muck-up. I need to make up a shopping list though!
From Sweden here and will probably never own a gun. Tried a few different guns at a range when I visited the US, but that's as far as my experience with firearms goes. Still enjoyed this video, and several of your other ones. Your content, quality and presentation is fantastic. Awesome work!
@@khann844 I dunno, Sweden has a lot of gun owners, like the people in the states who rely on their neighbors in crisis instead of having a gun, the swedes can probably rely more on their neighbors than we can.
It never hurts me to see another well-made firearm (AR, bolt action, etc,) cleaning video and especially from a man who uses one in competition. No matter how many times I may have seen someone else's video covering the same subject, your's ends up being the best and most enjoyable. Thanks Ray.
First time I’ve watched your videos and I needed this info in a bad way. I’ve had a few AR’s but have always sold them not knowing much about them. Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I’m definitely subscribing and sharing your video to my friends.
I must say that this video is very informative especially to those who have never done it I have been a .22LR bench shooter for many years all to familiar with that process. Recently purchased my first AR-15 and didn't know where to look for the take down of the rifle I'm certainly satisfied with the video on the how to's thank you for your time in bringing it to me I certainly do appreciate it
I watched this video over a year when I bought my AR 15. Unfortunately, I suffered a shoulder injury and needed shoulder replacement. I finally got the opportunity to use the AR 15 yesterday. I remembered this video from last year and found it again. An extremely well done video that I followed to do my cleaning. It took me a few hours but well worth it as I learned more about the gun and a great way to clean it!
This is the best AR cleaning video I've seen. Thanks for putting this together. I had a couple questions. 1. Should the chamber area be dried out before use? 2. Do you go after the hard carbon build up ?
Holy cow! Shout out to your cameraman. I thought this was tripod mounted or steady-cammed until I saw your buddy holding the cellphone in the reflection. Now THAT is a good example of natural point of aim!
I love how thorough you are with the cleaning process you use and it also being under 20 minutes... way too many videos are short and only cover the bare minimum that you can pretty much guess to be standard (ie: oiling the rails) or the video is waaayyyyy too long and convoluted. I actually downloaded this to have a backup and to make sure it's mirrored offline.
Outstanding content for any AR 15 owner. I perform almost the same identical cleaning tasks. My exception is the I use Birtchwood Casey Lead Remover cloth to to clean the bolt tail and remove the carbon build up. I have not been cleaning off the copper, but will incorporate it into my cleaning routine. I always walk away smarter after watching your videos.
I would say one of the most comprehensive AR cleaning vids on YT. Clear, precise and fully explains all the proper procedures. I even learned a couple new tricks. Subbed. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
I use the bucket method… detach the upper and scope QD. PLace bunch paper towels in bucket. Place barrel in bucket… spray break free or hoppies down barrel. Let sit. Use brass brush, up and down… rinse with cleaner… pour copper cleaner… let sit… use nylon brush… brush up and down… I use DuPont Teflon chain cleaner as rinse… push several pads for wipe and clean…
After struggling with other tutorials, you had the most straightforward and easy to understand tutorial for my first time cleaning. Love the video and will be watching more of yours to come!
Yeah I agree. I have tried every brand of oil and grease you can imagine. I have came to the conclusion that Lucas Extreme products are really good products. I really like their grease too. I like Slip 2000 oil as well.
Putting oil on any moving part of any AR is fine as long as the weather temp stays above 50 degrees but under the 50 mark the oil or any lube gets sticky then slows the motion of moving parts and even reduces the kinetic force on the firing pin all causing fail to fire and cartridge cycling issues. Do not oil any AR when planning to hunt in weather under the 50-degree mark. I lost the best chance I ever had to take a massive, large black bear in Alaska because I had used oil inside the bolt carrier a week before when the fall weather was around 65 degrees. My AR in 7.62 x39 wouldn't fire the cartridge because the oil had thickened in the mid 40 degrees that day. I tried to fire two 7.62x39 rounds at the bear that wouldn't fire, I retreated to a safe distance the pulled out the bolt carrier then disassembled it to wipe off all the oil. I returned to where the bear had been, but it left. I then fired 3 rounds to confirm it was the oil that caused the problem and the 2 rounds pointed at the bear I tried to shoot the bear with fired. I don't make mistakes with my reloaded, so all of my 7.62 x 39 loads are perfect, and the bullets are Barns 150 grain TSX Every problem I've had with AR 15 or AR 10 was due to oil on moving parts when the weather fell below the 50-degree mark.
Before I commented. I read other statements. I agree, your demonstration, explaining, and visualizing helped me throughly clean my M4. And it bench checked out perfectly! Thank you!
Greetings, this is the best AR cleaning video! Thank you for taking your time and showing us your way on cleaning your own AR. It has been a very educated video on disassembly and assembly the internal parts before and after cleaning. Thank you very much!
A well descript video on maintenance... Wish everybody did this good of a job. Great work!! a lot of videos out there just running through to get exposure but this guy gets to the details which is much needed 👍😎
Great video..I was outting a drop of oil in the gas ports on BCG until Larry Potterfield of Midway said to NEVER put oil in it....It just made no sense to me for piston rings to run dry.I agree with your method just like an engine..Rings need a little lubrication.
If they _were_ actually piston rings, you'd have a point - they're not. Putting oil in those vents just gets blown out and carboned up worse adding to your cleaning job. See Brownell's Smyth Busters episode with Caleb Savage for details.
