Gerry you have all... Touching Voice, musical technic, feeling, love for this unforgetable song, and the right age for knowing so well this golden age of eighties. With this young face and voice ! Stunning result.
Amazing rendition of this song. Had to go and listen to Prefab Sprout albums straight away. Gentlemen, my hat off for this version. Regards from Belgium 🇧🇪
One of the most underrated and forgotten song writers of all time, Paddy Mac Aloon , Stevie Wonder played harmonica on one of his albums that says it all to me!
Great cover! I also think this is their best song. It has that hard-to-define bitterswwet quality found in some songs by The Smiths, Bowie and The Cure. Cheers from Brazil!
Bravo, gentleman, bravo! I LOVE this song and was prepared to be highly critical of anyone even trying to do another version of this. But, I'm quite sure you've done Paddy and Wendy proud. Very enjoyable and very well done.
Well done, gents! This, from the only PS fan in the US! Well, maybe not, but American Sprout fans can probably only hold their fan club meetings in a phone booth! A symposium/seminar could be held on the how and why they never broke in the States, despite being on CBS Records. The label likely was too busy pushing Springsteen, Billy Joel, et al, and simply got lost in the corporate shuffle. A similar fate befell Scritti Politti, I'd wager, and their lot during the '80s on Warner Bros., busy as they were with the Madonnas and Princes of the day! To be honest, I'd rather have heard "Bonny," "When Love Breaks Down," or "The King of Rock'n'Roll" 8,486 times (in one week!) than "Livin' on a Prayer" or "Don't Stop Believin'"!
Much obliged Bradness… there was a great ‘sophisticated’ pop movement, mainly based in the UK during the 80’s - I was always influenced by bands like Prefab Sprout, Scritti Pollitti, Deacon Blue, The Blue Nile and Talk Talk amongst many many others… I still listen to these bands today, even though new material is a bit thin on the ground… glad you liked our attempt to cover a great song….👍
@@gerryhoey On Scritti, I bought their '85 "Cupid" LP sound unheard, on just one word used by noted L.A. Times critic, Robert Hilburn in describing their music: "Precious." You have to know your own tastes. Not only did I HAVE to hear any band described as "precious" by someone whose tastes and experience I respected, but I also knew my tastes well enough to know that there was no way I WOULDN'T like Scritti! I think that's the only time one word drove me to spend money on a record. Like most of us, Gerry, I made many purchases on a review or recommendation, but those took many more words to actually close the deal!
As a grumpy old skeptic at 58, I have to echo all the comments below. I've been a fan of Prefab since this album came out in '85. You guys did an AMAZING job on this. Mad respect for the choice, for the production, for the playing...everything! BRAVO!
Great track and greetings from Seattle! The timbre of your voice track well to Paddy's. Nice Rode mic. It is hard to comp Thomas Dolby's Sinclavier and all his tools. The Nord Stage 3 sound a wee bit slightly brash and hot in the last few seconds, but that is really niggling silly details. I find that I mix my tracks a little bit too bass heavy too, but we're all going for that lush warm sound. Most importantly, the vox tracks sound legit and in place. Great job!
@@gerryhoeyAre you kidding? It's perfect! The guitars and bass are also spot-on for Goodbye Lucille#1, and you did an excellent job on the vocals too. Must be the best cover version here on youtube! 😉
Awesome cover, Gerry! The keyboard sounded spot on to the recording. Your voice is also very similar to Paddy's! And props to Maeve, she sounded great! All around lovely cover, very well done all involved.
Excellent achievement Gerry,I’d love to hear a cover of a kick to the heart song called gone are the days which I remember you played great keyboards on,but that’s me being selfish, great job all involved, too few views.
Hi, Gerry. I play instruments, have a home studio and also love to do covers. Do you feel like recording another home studio cover version of BONNY? I have a very similar instrumental base ready. Just let me know and I will send it over! Hope to hear from you soon!
Hi Tame, I just used a Panpipe sample in the synth section of the Nord Stage 3. Lots of reverb gives it a nice sustain. I think the original sound was a panpipe sample in a Fairlight...
@@gerryhoey and it sounds more distinct on the Thomas Dolby remastered cd from a while back. Not to mention the wonderful acoustic bonus disc. But I digress.

Well done. - Prefab Sprout fan from the Philippines.
