Great video man! I searched a lot to find a demo of Hot 70 pickup and your demonstration showed what I was looking for. You did the comparison the right way (with mix and without the mix) and I've got to say thanks for making this video! Keep it up!
    Cheers!

Excellent comparison, man! Very useful especially if you're not sure which one of em to buy. And don't appologise for your english, man, you are providing valuable informations and opinions not only to brazilian but now to guitarrists from all around the world, some speaking mistakes are just little details. All your brazilian audience is very proud of you for doing that. Thank you for everything I've learned from you. KEEP IMPROVING!

I'm currently in the process of a new guitar build and I was looking into some other pickups than my usual 81 85 combo, which I have been using for over thirty years. I also already have the HetSet and I like them a lot. I think this time I'm going with the Retroactive. They sound really good and the solder less connections make the installation painless. Plus an advantage of EMG is the wiring can stay the same if you simply want to swap out pickups.

Grab some breadboard jumper wires, snip one end, and keep a stock of pin headers to plop on pickups (or, put the pin end of the jumpers on the pickups... You could also do screw or lever terminals to header pin adaptors). That way you dont have to worry about weird wiring or color usage. Mark on the pickup whats where if you get a funky one and freely plop it into the circuit as you please. Id make playing with coil phasing a snap too..... Just make sure to keep those socket ends nice and tight. Just behind the clip, where the bit of metal goes across the short length, use a small flat head to push down on the bit it crossed over. Thatll push the bit of metal that friction fits onto the pin down and grab harder, but avoid cramming it down to the bottom. Oh, and order some pin header sockets, and put em where your caps, resistors, or whatever else you got going on in the body goes. If you're crafty, and theres space in the body, you can have jumpers between the stuff with multiple configurations (like tone knob circuit geometry), and easily play with spare caps/resistors laying around. I found while overall kind of pointless, some blue HV caps really tames down the metal zone pedals .....uh..... metal zone-ness, its weird, but it works. Never know what kind of fun shit youll find just screwing around 😉

Great video man, I have been waiting for a video comparing the het set with the bone breakers. I was waiting for videos on the bone breakers to see how they sounded before i bought them and there wasn't many at all. I have actually watched every single video on RUclips about them. I decided to buy them anyway and i was very impressed. They are the cleanest and crispiest pickups i have ever heard. They were my first set of active pickups, previously i had a set of esp passive pickups that came in my Ltd KH-202 and despite the bone breakers having slightly less gain than regular 81's, they still had more gain than my passive pickups. Overall i was very happy i bought them. I do want to buy a James Hetfield guitar also and i am eager to see what the het set sounds like in person. I am a huge metallica fan haha. Anyways, again, great video and i hope to see more content from you :)

I have the kh-202 as well and I'm looking to buy the bone breakers. Did you install them yourself or did you take it to a luthier?

I think the JHs are the most balanced, KHs have the most mids and 70s the most low end. All great, depending on what sound you are looking for.

Thanks for this channel bro. I got a Harley Benton Amarok a few months ago which if you didn't know had EMG retro active hot 70's. I was wondering what the JH and KH sets would attack up against the hot 70's, and thanks to your channel I now know that I like the hot 70's to the other 2 sets. Well I don't like the JH and KH set enough to justify spending that amount of money for such a subtle difference. Thanks again🤘🤘. And you are an excellent shredder.

I’ll go with the Retro Active. They have a tone i dig a lot! Something the hammett set doesnt have and a little bit more round than the hetset so i’ll go with the retroactive till the new Jim Root Demons are released this January

What are you thoughts on the retro active 70? When you play it, in which way does it inspire you to play? What feel does it give tonally. Thanks dude! I’m looking for a shredders pickups that still remains tight with clarity for rhythm.

Are the EMG retro active hot 70's the same as the ones that they have in the Harley Benton amarok's? I know the ones in the Harley Benton's don't have adjustable pole peices, but is that the only difference?

Hey Chris, even I want to buy one Amarok - 7 for my birthday, yeah they do have emg 70s in it for sure, but about the adjustable pole pieces, hmm not sure, by the way did you get an amarok?

    • @chriswalton3383
      @chriswalton3383 3 года назад

@@virtuoso798 yeah I have an amarok 6 B-stock. The pickups were designed specifically for the Amaroks. Unfortunately they don't have adjustable pole pieces. They sound amazing. They have a chunkyness to them. It plays like butter as well. I don't think I could justify spending $400 just for a slight difference in sound. I definitely recommend getting one. The cort guitar's are as good, and about the same price.

I am having the hot 70 in my Schecter sun valley super shredder III fr 7 . They not bad at all but I'm still missing something. Probably I will buy the Fishman open core.and replace it . Any opinions?

The RockVolution FWIW, I currently have the Fluence Will Adler set on my LTD H-500 and for home use I run it through an Ibanez Tube Screamer to my Boss Katana 100. I gotta say, since my guitar is naturally and acoustically loud and trebly, the Fishman is not a good fit. I play mostly Trivium-style metal and sometimes some metalcore and I find the tone to be too thin. Also the Fishman Fluence pickups drain the 9v battery A LOT quicker. In 5 weeks I’ve already had to replace my Duracell.

@@jaxonvictoria4345 How are the Fat 55 pickups?
I have plans to make a rear routed partscaster Tele with Fat 55 bridge pickup, T-52 neck pickup, and Tremoline double locking trem system.
I want my partscaster to be a '80s style hot-rodded Tele, so will the Fat 55 be a good choice for the bridge pickup?

Hey man, your English is better than my Portuguese. Dont sweat it, or punish yourself before the vocal minority can get to you. Second languages can be difficult, the fact you're speaking it, and understandable, is enough for most of us. Work on it as your motivation is wont to do. If it takes a moment to get your tongue to do the English thing instead of the Portuguese thing, or remembering the flow of a word, or even what the word in English is....well thats what editing is for, my dude! Smash cut that bitch! But otherwise, no worries man. Just keep on keeping on mate🤘😎👍
Also, is it just me or did it sound like the KH version had more.....like.....defined fidelity? Like, it could pickup (heh) the little incidental sounds of the fingers on the strings, where as the JH set was a bit more muffled (not much, just in direct comparison). Then again, KH being the lead for the band it would make sense the pickups would want to make those quick note changes as clear and defined as possible, while the rhythm was holding up the melody...... Honestly, I like em both. The other one sounded a little too bright, like the 3 high strings came through a bit too hot. [shrug] Maybe some tweaking could tame it down, still had a decent sound. I wouldnt be mad having any of em, really....
Also also, it looks like they just threw some servo connectors and pin headers on those things! LoL I have a bunch laying around....maybe its time to clean up the wiring and make my guitar a quick change rig...... 🤣🤔😂🤣
