Used EMG solderless systems in both a Tele build and a superstrat build. Love the lack of finger burning!
Just don't touch the hot bit on the soldering iron next time and you will be fine.
This is a big reason why im buying The bone breaker set cause its solderless and I blow and break pots all the time and you just simply have to plug in a new one like its not unsolder nearly everything in your guitar

This is quickly becoming my favorite gear/review channel. Keep it up buddy! I really wanna try these out. EMG's have been my go to pickups for like 15 years.
The 81 and 60 combo Killed them all..........
I used to prefer 85 on the bridge and 81 on neck but finally got my hands on a 60, the 60 and 81 just pair so well together.
My 94 ESP E.X.P had an ESP passive pickups so I've swapped them into 81+60. This is the real Metallica sound if you want to get it.

All pickups should be solderless and come with solderless pots and switches. I don' t get why other brands still are living in the stone age of soldering, and not including pots and switches like EMG does..
There are claims that using quick connects, especially in succession, can effect tone. Soldering is incredibly simple though, anyone can do it.
@@deviltronix Complete horseshit. People who make these claims have no understanding of electronics. Active pickups drive 100ft cables with no loss in high end. Quick connectors (which are gold plated by the way) are not going to make a shred of difference.

Out of the shoot out, I really dug the Hammett's the best, they have a midrange that peaks at just the right spot. I'm really impressed, they sound awesome in that chapman \m/!
Dude so glad you put them in THAT guitar, I tried that exact guitar and loved the feel but wasn't too impressed with the stock pickups so my first thought was throwing some EMGs in there and I loved how it sounded although I just saw EMGs official video on them and it looks like he has a new sig that is going to come with the BB set. Also glad I dont have to have his KH sig on the pups

I wire Emg pickups at a guitar manufacture and we drill the holes out. Take it slow if you do, though so you dont rip out the brass insert. These pickups sound bad ass dude! Love your content.
I got one of his signature pick guards and I was very impressed with the sound of each pickup. The configuration I got comes with and 81 in the bridge and two SA’s in the middle and neck positions

From this demo, I really like the JH's, although I was always skeptical towards the signature EMG's

I love how he makes riffs that compliment what he’s doing like his Jim root tele video he sound like something that Jim would and this is what I mean it sounds something like Kirk would do and sounds pretty similar. But that’s also probably because of the amp he used for this video
I can honestly say that these are the best pickups I've ever played/had. I like them better than Fishman Fluences, Duncan Solars, etc. They handle gain very well, they don't sound muddy, the cleans are outstanding, and there is great note separation.

Have an 81/85 set in my Jackson rrxmg. Have the het set in my ec1000. This is the first time heard the BB set. They sound good. But like you said, not worth the price tag to replace great pickups with equally great pickups. Great video!!

Okay, those are going to get a second look for a DIY single cut I'm building. The silver Hetfields have a better mid and high end, but the Hammets are dead on right.

I dig the Bone Breakers sound in the Chapman and I rarely like Chapman’s sound. Nor do I like EMGs normally

BB are nice pickups, but still the traditional EMG 81 smokes all the rest to my ears. Great video comparison, very clear!

the X series sounded fantastic across the board,the JH set was my second favorite.
Might get a set for my LTD MH100QM, I'm not a huge fan of active pickups but it just feels right to put Kirk's signature set into an ESP LTD with a Floyd Rose.
I mean it feels wrong to put one in a Jackson but its got a floyd so it's ok kirk used to play Rhoads model guitars anyway

JH neck was the best. I was reading comments and had to scroll up to see what it was. Also the tune at the 12:00 has a very Testament vibe to it.
Gr8 video! Question. Are you still using the Rivera rockcrusher to keep the volume low for the Mesa? I have a dual rectifier and its pretty loud for the recommended settings.

I love the 81X/60X. I put them in my ESP LTD EC-1000 Vintage Black. Sustain for days. I put the Het Set in another LTD EC and enjoy their sound as well. Have the 57/66 set in a Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid. I really like the EMG family of tones. They're all superb in my opinion. Next up is the Glenn Tipton signature set. Judas Priest was my favorite band growing up. Listen to 'Grinder', you'll understand. 🙂

Great vid :) .. I have a 89 , sa , sv set up as a super strat with 5 way . Where should I place the sv ? At the moment I have it in the neck and the 5 way set up so it’s activated in the middle position so it can be blended with the 89 in the bridge . Just asking for opinions ? I do love the quick connect idea of emgs no soldering :)

Dude I had that EXACT same problem with my EMGs!! Lol. Took forever and I had 0 luck finding screws of the right size and thread count to fit. I ended up having to bore out the screw holes on the pickup ring and use a bigger screw. I then glued a coresponding nut inside the pickup ring for it to grab on to, but it worked.

You should try the EMG retroactive set, see if they really are the best of both worlds when it comes to active and passive pickups
