    Jeff and Jacob were pillars of my early days in fly fishing as a young kid, letting me borrow their rods, spending time with me at Country Sport as an annoying little dork. Love these guys.

    Oh very nice video!
    I love fish steelhead they are few and in good condition at winter! My favourite colour of fly goes of basic 3 colour for me.
    White/pink purple/black
    black/silver all flys need to have some striking point that stands out of the colour. As same goes for early season Atlantic salmon in Norway its very similar few fish but as it happens they are big 25+lbs. What its about is fly must be in the water and cast long and cross over whit a good drift and the big difference between steelhead and salmon is. The salmon hangs higher up the water depth it's a master of the stream. Steelhead you find in different places and closer to the bottom. And the best way is get a early steelhead fly fish about 1 feet over the bottom that's hard as depth change all the time in the river. This goes for our sea trout as you in US says sea one browns! They stand behind a big stone or in the deep holes as water is cold! That means you have to fish them as close to bottom but not at the bottom that's the tricky part get it to present the fly deep enough and not hung up every cast. For early season here in Scandinavia we use mostly full sinking lines at sink 3-8 skagit are used here but way less then in US. For shallow water it's as good but on our deep pools we need full sinking lines !
    I would love been whit you guys 👌 nice day and snow in the air is like get close to hook a fish that's my experience and I lived several years in US and I love the over cast days !
    My first fly that day would be purple/black wing and silver body whit a fluorescent yellow but ! And large size 2-3" or more depending on the current! I did appreciate this video very much 🙏
    And who knows I might meet you guys up there some year ! Best regards the swed 🇸🇪
    Bjorn

    I've always had trouble getting the bigger steelhead to bite even when I can actually see them. The "half pounders" are a bit more cooperative and I just accept them as a nice sized trout rather than looking at it as a little steel. California has a lot of half pounders as well as big eel river strain steelhead that reach over 10lbs

      Jakob Lund sorry if thats the case. The line appeared to be following the fly to the mid section of the fish. I always tell my clients the fish swiped at the fly and missed it when that happens. Jury is still out for me, because I'm sure you were hoping to get that drone footage, which was sweet.

    Incredible video,well done! I share the same passion/obsession/disease(?) as you guys.Although my targeted species may be different(wild Atlantic Salmon) we are all "cut from the same cloth". Some people dont get what we do,or how a fish basically rules our lives and haunts our dreams.To put in the time,effort,blood sweat and tears just for that split second when that perfectly placed fly stops and you realize....game on.For me that's what it is all about.THE TUG IS THE DRUG,all the rest is just a bonus.Tight Lines from East Coast Canada.

    Yet another absolutely captivating video production, well done! As a salmon fly fisherman from Scotland and never (yet) fished for steelhead can you tell me the logic for the trailing single hook on your flies please? These fresh run chrome steelhead resemble Atlantic salmon in many ways. Thanks for production and sharing!

    • @CoreyGolphenee
      @CoreyGolphenee 3 месяца назад

      it’s basically what we came up with as an alternative to a scandi Tube Fly, it lets you fish a very large fly with a with a hook that’s gonna penetrate and hold better, also when fishing in the winter you want to be ticking bottom, so the flies get very beat up, and replaceable hooks can be nice too.

    One of the better vids I have seen for a long time. I am immensely disappointed every time I see the photo on a salmon/steelhead mag cover with the fish lifted clear of the water. Obviously, the fish is not going to be released in that situation because it is illegal (in Washington State at least) to remove the fish from the water if it is to be released. So here are all these idiots killing these beautiful unclipped fish.
    But you guys do it right. Cradle the fish on the surface with an ungloved hand (trying not to wipe off the protective slime), not lifting it from the water, and getting excellent photos/vid. That rocks! Wish more people would learn to take photos the right way, without hurting the fish more than it has already been hurt.
    Good hunting, guys….

    In Ontario we use roe and beads for steelhead. Some guys fly fish but don't do half as good as the guys that use roe/beads. Its actually almost rare to see a guy with a fly rod. Are flies better to use out west rather than roe?

    • @marcwebb2573
      @marcwebb2573 9 лет назад +5

      No, flys are more challenging than roe fishing, which is why less people do it. Some people think that roe is too easy, so they do flys.
