    I watch a lot of product reviews and don't normally add comments, but thought this was a particularly good and helpful demo, thank you.

      I've bought a second hand one, I've been tinkering about with it for hours with different guitars. In all honesty I'm a bit underwhelmed by the Plexi side of the pedal but it could be that I've simply not figured it out properly yet. I'm sure I'll get there. thank you again.

      @@playreggaeguide The clean (Sansamp) side of the pedal is very impressive. It definitely adds a certain 'something' to a clean amp setting. However, the more I try and get a useable tone from the 'Plexi' side, the less I like it.

    I'm curious as to what kind of music you play at a weddding carrying around a 6505+. Like "Ok everyone the newly weds would like to invite everyone onto the dance floor your the celebratory mosh. Please be aware of aunt Agnus, she is delicate."

    Excellent review Rob. Do you prefer the Plexi tone of the original FR5 in this video, or the new Plexi tone of the new FR5 V2 ?

  • @jamesdaigle8690

    I bought the RK5 first, I actually don’t like the OMG section, way too bassy for my preference, but I also have a super-hot bridge pickup and I play metal in D standard/Drop C. I even ran an EQ after the pedal and an overdrive before it, I couldn’t dial it out. Regardless, I fell in love with rest of the pedal, so I bought a a new PL-1 and Fly Rig 5v2 and they sound killer! Then recently, I bought a used Fly Rig Brit and that one sounds great too! Then I also bought the Sansamp GT2, and I love that one as well! I’m selling off my tube amps, I run them into a 44 Magnum live and I don’t feel I’m sacrificing anything other than weight and size. My live rig is just a pedal board and I only need 2 cables now, (1 Guitar and 1 Speaker) Recording is going to be much easier and more productive now too! I also bought the Mooer Radar, the Brit, Cali, and Plexi sections just sound crushing running into that (with the Sansamp off of course, they sound weird with both on and rightfully so).

      I bought the RK5 myself. Love it most of the time but some tones are tough/impossible to dial in. I was considering the other pedals like you mentioned. Is there really a noticable difference between these? Do you have examples of what each one can dial in a known groups sound?
      Appreciate anything you can add, thanks!

      Jeff Skyberg,
      Are you referring to the other Fly Rigs or the Tech 21 pedals?

    • @jamesdaigle8690
      @jamesdaigle8690 4 года назад +3

      As you may know, the clean Sansamp section is pretty similar on all of them. The distortion sections are all a bit different. I tend to classify them by low end content, (because I’m an absolute psycho about tight lows), because I play lots of palm-muted riffs, 😂.
      The Fly Rig 5v2 has the 2nd most bass-heavy distortions after the RK5, IMO. Plexi (Self-Explanatory) is a bit tighter than Cali (Rectifier-ish), they can both do crunch to high gain. Cali can also do Santana and Walter Becker-ish lead sounds. The effects loop is a great feature to me and makes it a great recording tool because I can radically augment the tone to taste by hooking in an EQ pedal and whatever other outboard effects I want to be on the recording.
      The PL1 is a standout for me, because both clean and distortion sections are Sansamps, also both have 3-band active EQs which provide more tone shaping. The switching is also better IMO, because when you step on one amp section, the other shuts off simultaneously, eliminating the need to keep the Sansamp section on like all the others, which to me is very attractive, especially live. You also have 2 different mid-shaping buttons for distortion and compression on the clean channel, which sounds quite nice. There’s no drift, you get tremolo instead, which you can only use that delay, not both at the same time, I don’t care because I just use the delay. The distortion sounds Marshall-ish to me, (I believe it’s based on the GT2 pedal), but with all the tone shaping, you can make it as fat or thin or however you want. This is my favorite all-in-one package.
      The Fly Rig Brit and the Character Series Brit pedals (V1 and 2) have the most pleasing and easiest to dial stock distortion sounds and the tightest low end, IMO. That one can do crunch, AC/DC-ish, old EVH-ish, Mountain-ish, ZZ Top-ish Hair Metal and even heavier.
      The GT2 pedal also sounds killer and can be dialed to sound tight or chunky. It can do anything from Fender-ish cleans to modded Recto-ish sludge.
      So, for a pedal my favorite is the v2 Brit, (because I can turn off the Sansamp so it plays better with my Mooer Radar), for a Fly Rig, the PL1. That being said, I always boost with an overdrive and use post EQ in the effects loop or after the fly rig, so YMMV.

    Good video.. I'm looking at buying something like this myself being that I'm 61 and I have a bad back, arthritis, etc, and I am tired of carrying heavy stuff.. I do like the tone thru my headphones. Sounds great.. I am not sure with some of the shreddy stuff I play it would work, but I could always add another boost in front of it.. I would for sure at a Noise suppressor at the end of the chain as well, but that's still not a lot with a tuner as well.. Still a small board and no amp.. No amp is the part I love! 😂 How did it sound with your SG?
    Thanks man!

    • @RobGalley
      @RobGalley  2 года назад +1

      Sounds great with my SG! I still use this live at gigs now. I bought a fairly cheap OD pedal that I put on my board infront of this Sansamp for any higher gain stuff and that just sounds great together. I'll make an updated pedalboard video soon so people can hear how that sounds! But I still don't use any amps. Just this and a few other pedals straight into the PA

    Great vid, I play in a wedding band too and I bought a Headrush MX5 to go direct too, but it sounds awful and is way over complicated. Do you go direct live with this with no cab sim as I thought only the V2 had a cab sim ?
