Pre boost will drive your preamp when engaged (not so noticeable on clean sounds, but will give you more breakup on drive sounds) post boost will just make whatever sound you’ve dialed in louder without changing the tone or gain structure
Pre: Hitting the preamp (gain boost) Post: Hitting your overall volume without driving the preamp (volume boost). With this board however, it is referred to as in conjunction with the Plexi Drive section alone & or any drive pedal you may add before the chain, so in pre-mode it'll be like you attached the boost before the Plexi section to make it more gainy & post-mode will be as if you put the boost in the chain right after the Plexi to make more of a volume boost.
Couple of tricks with this: Running a stereo W/D Rig with this. Reg output Amp 1. FX Send to Amp 2 Turn delay time to zero, and engage “drift.” You now have a chorus pedal.
Great video and tasty playing!! I am moving from the Tech 21 RK5 to the 5 V2 for several reasons and this video helped me make my decision. Excellent Demo😎
Thanks for the review. Concentrating on Clean Sounds is found rarely in these reviews. Personally, I think that is where you separate the boys from the man, so special thanks for that!!! You got a new subscriber 👍🏼
Nice review. I use mine as a fly rig but I agree it's very flexible. I smiled watching you trying to describe the difference between cab sim on and off - it only works on the XLR.... that's why it sounded exactly the same through the 1/4" output.
That cabsim simply must be off when going direct to the amp...sure, its everyone's taste and ears to decide, but damn..even if passable by somehow neutral amp setting, it is so distant and blankety boomy with it on and so much better without cabsim, when using areal cab...its great that FR v2 finally can defeat it
I’ve had this for a few months now and I’m still confused as to how to use the blonde channel. Is that meant to stay on the whole time? If so, I can’t get a good clean tone from it 🧐
The blond channel is a preamp with a speaker simulator that can be turned off. If you use the Fly Rig plugged into an amp you don't need to keep the blond channel on, unless you like it. For mysefl, I use mainly the Plexi channel and I like it better without the blond amp simulator, so I put it off the more often. When I use it it's alone to get a more Fender sound than a Plexi/Marshall one. I guess the blond channel is more essential if you use the Fly Rig as a direct imput, without any amp. For mysefl I always use it with an amp, so to get a really clean sound I just turn off the different channels of the Fly Rig.
@@tagadabrothersband The Blonde is still an analogue circuit… so it’s basically an overdrive/distortion pedal. My settings are very different for ‘The Blonde’ section depending on how I’m using it. When used direct to my mic’d amp… I use it as a mild overdrive pedal. If I’m going straight to the board… I use it as amp set just to a hint of breakup when guitar volume knob is on 10.
Great review! But why would you bypass the amp modeling of this unit? Is that exactly what are want when buying one of these? There are much better delay and reverb pedals out there. Thanks!
You would bypass it when you use it plugged in an amp and not as a direct input. There are différent ways to use this unit. If you prefer to use separate elements then you don't need to buy this one.
"...I'm going to take this all-in-one rig that is designed to be a complete system including amp and cab sim, that I just mentioned I use direct to FOH live and direct for zoom calls, etc, and demonstrate it by running it through a tube amp and mic'ing it...." 🤦
Hi, I recently purchased the Tech 21 Fly Rig 5 v2 , I've noticed that when I set a delay tempo and then press the dotted 8th it does fine but then when I put the dotted 8th button off it does not play the normal delay.. It just continues with the dotted modified delay even with it off. Is this normal or a flaw ?

The boost on pre- mode will be before the SansAmp (blackface/tweed) of engaged…then the plexi/cali (marshall/mesaboogie)
Tech21 should endorse you for that! The best review for this piece on RUclips! Thanks a lot, i bought one!

Love the playing and the demo! 🤘🔥
Why you never turned up the Level of the Plexi?
It sounded crunchy, not distorted or high gain
he explained why
Agree with Dixon, you will notice the pre-boost much more on high gain sounds. It adds more gain and more sustain.
This is an excellent demo... lol I now realize I've been using this unit somewhat incorrectly. Can't wait to apply the new knowledge! Cheers \m/
Awesome, thank you!
Cool DI Sound!

@@tagadabrothersband thank you! I use both amp and line - so I'll find a compromise :)

From pedal to Input amp or return ?

Sm 58?🤔
Shure microphone, model 58
@@mongofungo9243 should be a sm57 for guitar cab… that’s why Clayton questioned it
