Thanks for making these videos! They are very well done. I have the FR5 V2 and I run the RK5 V1 into the FR5 effects loop. I really like how it sounds direct through the PA. I use the FR5 sans amp for clean then I use the Plexi for my mid gain sounds. I use the OMG for the heavy stuff. the two delays interact really well. Everything works reasonably well together if you pay attention to the levels. Soon I am going to be getting the RK5 V2 for the extra stuff so I can have a compressor for some country cleans and the fuzz for some more authenticity so some Pink Floyd covers we do. I have been using a POD GO, and it is really good, but these Fly Rigs sound better to me. I mainly run direct to PA. These units are much easier to dial in and make on the fly adjustments than a Pod Go. I can run other pedals in this set up if I want to but I only run a mini wah in front and a spark boost as the last effect after the RK5 in the loop for an overall solo boost. This means I can use the other boost in the Fly Rigs before the gain stages if I need. The Fly Rigs power consumption is also much lower so I can run them on the new battery powered units on the market now and even run a battery to each unit to isolate them for a reduction in noise. For my situation and ears Tech 21 still beats the rest of the gang - Particularly when it comes to being heard in a band mix and also when using the volume on the guitar to control gain and volume. It is incredible to me how well they work in that area.
Add a Tech21 Comp n Boost in front. You get the comp and pre-boost for more gain. The onboard boost is then used for post boost to get volume bumps for lead playing. The 1/8th button on mine does dotted 1/8's
This is another great module to pick from . You are right, it is completely different from the RK-5. This one is very flexible and again, not a bad tone in it. I instantly gravitated to what I had that I liked, but in V2 of the Kotzen, without looking at this one Hmmm. I can feel the money wanted to leave my wallet. Must resist. Nice job Jonathan and your playing is always top shelf.
Johnathan - Another great review of guitar equipment. Perhaps I will eventually by this fly rig 5 ver 2. I have the same capability spread out over several pedals, but this all in one seems a great option. Your playing and tone selection are spot on. Great video!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Thanks, Jonathan! The POD Go also appears to be a user friendly all in one with great sound and pretty good noise control. With all the mountains of guitar tone gear out there, you are a great resource to help us less informed players focused on gear that meets our needs. Cheers! BTW, love your country, Singapore.
I prefer this over the RK because you can disengage the speaker simulation on the 1/4" output when using an amp. The XLR out to the PA still has the speaker simulation when this button is pressed.
I commented on your RK5 V2 video review about the lack of a dotted 8th delay...but then noticed it is included in this unit :) And I prefer the Plexi tone over the OMG tone personally. However, still no chorus :( At least this now has an FX loop to add in a chorus pedal and now a built-in tuner. These units are great for what they are...simple, compact, portable and with really good tone. I use V1 in church direct...for about 5 yrs now with zero issues. I wish it had shimmer reverb and vol swell options to get those ambient modern worship tones. I wish they would also make a hard rock/metal version of this with like a hot-rodded Marshall JCM 800 and Mesa or 5150 distortion sounds and switchable between the two. THAT would be amazing. I currently have a Tech 21 Power Engine that I put this into, but looking to get a PRS MT15 and run my fly rig into the front end to get both Plexi and Mesa Rectifier-ish modern metal tones.
Thanks for the great review Jonathan, I saw both of the fly rig V2 and I decided to go with this one, I think the loop is really the game changer here, see I already have the fly rig Ritchie kotzen V1 which I really loved, now if I get this one, I think I can synchronize this 2 awesome pedal by putting the RK v1 in the send return plugs. Then 1 have 2 preamps that I can set differently, 2 types of delays , 2 types of booster, and 3 awesome overdrives 😎😎👍👍 Please let me know what you think about my idea above, thanks. God bless you 🙏😊 Ps. I'm also play music in a ministry 😊
Again Binge watching ... as always great video ! Have you ever tried out a Mooer Black Truck? its quite a versatile multi pedal/budget board!! another item id love to see you demo!!!!! you rock Jonathan!
Nice Vid Jon! And again I don’t know why they don’t include a dedicated Chorus and Delay in the unit but I guess with the SEND and RETURN feature you could run it through there. Great Performance as usual my Friend! Please keep the Good Content coming!! Question about the guitar you used: does HB make it in a Left Handed Version? Cheers from the US!
Hi, I recently purchased the Tech 21 Fly Rig 5 v2 , I've noticed that when I set a delay tempo and then press the dotted 8th it does fine but then when I put the dotted 8th button off it does not play the normal delay.. It just continues with the dotted modified delay even with it off. Is this normal or a flaw ?
Jonathan you could demo a mop and a bucket and make them sound soooo good. You sir are a very skilled musician! I hope you live long and prosper and continue to share your gift.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Ooo yes Harley Benton has a mop coming to market with a Roasted Maple handle and stainless hardware. Thomann is looking for a suitable bucket.. :)
@@JonIsJustTooLoud What is it then? It's been described as a 70's boutique amp from Cali, and even the Tech21 Cali pedal looks VERY identical to a 70's Mk series amp with the stained wood and grille, soooo?

Great video as always! The XLR out is nice if you have an amp problem during the gig, you can still XLR out to the PA and come out the monitors.
Very true!
Hi Jonathan ,
I just have to say , You can make anything sound good .
Always great tone and playing .

I have the RK5 V2 and getting this one because of the loop and the tones are more varied. Great demo!!!
@@alexc2680 The heavy side of this unit reminds me of a JCM800 in a big way. The lower gain side is Fender all the way.. Not bad.

Loved the playing but to be honest, the drive tones were harsh and fizzy sounding - almost like a fuzz. Is it capable of warmer drive tones?
Yes I’m sure you can.. I didn’t adjust too much on the tone control of the Cali drive ✌️😁
Or.. get the Rk5 haha ✌️❤️
On my original flyrig the tiny knobs are very sensitive so therefore a small tweak actually makes a big difference.
Nice demo once again Jonathan..👍
What model Harley Benton are you using on this demo? It is very nice.
This one Ted..

No you can’t

Who is this “70s west coast boutique”?
Is Cali supposed to emulate the Mesa boogie?
Yea... ✌️❤️
Too bad there's no comp. Will have to carry a comp pedal with it. Defeating the compact size concept.
