I bought the RK5 after watching this and Richie demoing his live rig. It’s an amazing piece of kit. There’s enough here for me to do a full show. One guitar a tuner, flyrig, câbles in a gig bag. On the plane off the the show with no worries about what the backing will be. Life changing for me.
Keep in mind, this little pedalboard and a Cry-Baby wah,is all that Richie Kotzen is using when he's on tour, with his modded Telecaster and a tube-amp. *That's it!* No 20 boutique pedals,no pre-amps no bullshit. And the guy gets such a massive tone out of it!
Tech21 hit a home run with the flyrig models. Awesome features and functionality combined with affordability. I own the RK5 and it sounds the same no matter what I run it through. Pro tip of the day. Even though it is awesome. Run a BBE Sonic Stomp in front of it and it REALLY wakes it up.
Damn you Pete, seriously. I've been avoiding this thing for a year and buying other stuff...but not now. Even my wife listened from the kitchen and said it sounded awesome. That going into my 81JMP is going to just kill. 😎
Yeah definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made. It would be great for just DI guitar if you want with the sansamp setting, but like he does in the demo, I have started to use the sanamp as basically a reverb. There is also a "secret" chorus hidden in there if you turn up the drift on the delay and set the repeats low!
Pete, youre an AWESOME STELLAR individual anda hella GNARLEY GUITARIST, i love how you do it all, and do it all so well, metal to blues n back... pretty sick bro

Pete - this was a great demo. I was getting tired of carting amps and pedal cases out a few times per week, so I just picked one of these up. When not running direct, I'll run it into a hand wired '68 Marshall clone and stoked to check it out in both situations. As always, your channel is not just a fun watch, which it is, but I always take away a few actionable ideas. Keep it up brother!!
Very cool demo. Picked up a TECH 21 RK5 few years ago. Very versatile. Sounds great with my vintage modded Custom 100 Hi-Watt amp, 4 X 12" cab with FANE speakers or direct through my multi-track recording unit.
My guitarist played this Kotzen pedal thru my unpowered Yamaha MG12 PA Mixer Board, then into a powered Mackie Thump 1000 Watt with a modded15" Eminence Delta Speaker in the Mackie Thump, and it sounded F.....g insane.
Man Pete, I really dig the intro song on this one. Awesome stuff, and excellent demo. I've been a TECH21 fan for years now. Their VT bass is my go to for recording bass tracks, and the original SansAmp has been an all around work horse for experimenting with different tones without having to sacrifice the moment to fiddle with mics, cables, and multiple amps. Great job man.👍
DAM BROTHER, YOU MAKE IT SEEM LIKE IT'S SO EASY, YOUR A TRUE GENIUS WITH ALL THE EQUIPMENT YOU PROMO, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU LIVE AGAIN SOON, I TRULY ENJOY WATCHING YOUR ENERGY AND IT BRINGS LIFE TO MY SOUL, MLH&R
DUDE, OMG" pun!? lol ;-) but not originally intended, found in hindsight! 1 OF THE BEST SOLOS IVE HEARD IN A LONG ASSSSSS TIME, if not ever for that matter, you should work this and publish with a full band. loved the dark tuf funky rhythm PERFECTION. the lead rox. I LOVE THE SINGLE WHAMMY IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.. SUCH A SUBTLE TOUCH, SUCH INTELLIGENCE .. making it so special as its only done once.. so impressive, this riff n solo struck such a chord of inspiration with me Pete, i play this way, but not that good... wow. loved it.. like getting to hear what i aspire to be. and.. i have to add, its stellar how you introduce yourself after playing such a soulful solo... it makes the moment surreal.. well filmed too man.
I was going to buy this rig until I saw Rabea Massaad's and Brett Kingman's review of the Valeton Dapper and saw a few tweaks on Tech 21's original design that I liked (tuner, FX Loop). Bought it and it sounds fantastic. Both units are wonderful and most of us would be happy with either. Great review Pete, to no great surprise.
What an incredible piece of gear. Richie is big on simple and beautiful tone. This nails it. My kind of stuff. I hate massive menus and computer operated controls. I don’t need a laptop as an essential part of my rig. Especially when update’s aren’t available. I have a designated laptop that I cannot update for my Katanas because if I update them then my tone studio won’t work. WTF?
Nice job there Mr. Thorn. Just bought the FR5 based on your two videos of these pedals. I'm more of a Plexi guy so I opted for that one, but these demos really help show the capabilities of when used correctly. Double thumbs up!!
Agreed - especially the "soloed" sections to demonstrate the individual parts and sounds. Pete is a pro. BTW, I've had the RK5 for about a year now (and recorded several albums with it), and also just bought the CALI version. Great pedals.
Dave Lanciani thanks for the info man... saw Richie back in May... Love his sound... hands down best show I've ever seen. I'm getting the Rk5 .. no doubt
i hope someone from Tech 21 is paying him, because I don't know what demo could make you want to run out and buy a pedal than this one. I want this fucking pedal now, and then I'm going to take some lessons! WOOHOO!
The demo track was very reminiscent of Camel. Made me want to go and dig out my copy of "Rain Dances" (or just use spotify). Love your playing even though I'm not in the market for one of these things.
That was a really cool demo and I love the stuff you were playing Im sold on this RK fly rig going to order one now Thanks Pete btw really dig all the guitar compositions you played
Wow...I need me one of those. I like the clean and high gain tones he got out of it. I could use this for an small jam/gig and get everything I would need!!!!
Great review. Pete! I own the Kotzen and the Cali of the fly rigs and I use them often. I use the Cali more than the others, but the Kotzen comes in second for my taste.
Hi Pete. Thanks for your demo's! I've purchased the Fly Rig 5 Cali and i'm very pleased with it, especially with the Sans Amp section and the DLA. I do not attach too much value to your demos because you are able to make a microwave sound good;) ( This is a compliment btw!)
Hi Pete, I am not sure you will see this, but I now have one of these pedals I got but it was in a damaged condition for me to work out just what happened to it after an impact it sustained. I got the guts out of the case to find the 2nd pcb mounted switch in the DLA section was damaged. I got the part from Tech21 and fixed that section. Everything else in all sections seems to light up or go out properly when the switches are operated in the DLA, SansAMP and OMG sections. However, the pedal has a lot of static like noise in the OMG section. I am thinking this is pretty normal for drive pedals drive sections. The more the levels are adjusted higher, the noisier they get until you actually play the guitar. Thank you for this nice video.
Request! If possible, could you please demo the Bass Fly rig with guitar?! I have requested this from other youtube channels with little luck so far! Can you make it happen? It would be really interesting. Thanks for a truly great channel!
Richie is a MONSTER player and has a fantastic voice as well.

If it only had tremolo
Real Chris Cornell vibe to that intro to my ears.
Beautiful.
I guess we should all do exactly what he does then.
In which application is it the most effective? D.I. or in front of an amplifier?
it's in his hand also
.he could make Sears Silverstone rock

Pro tip of the day. Even though it is awesome. Run a BBE Sonic Stomp in front of it and it REALLY wakes it up.
@@notacommie5415 Hey man. Have you tried the Sonicake rockstage or etc? I wonder if it's not as good at all or possibly a cheaper useable alternative.
That song he's playing at the beginning is badass. Sounds like old Soundgarden.
He did tour with Chris Cornell before he passed away. And Richie Kotzen has a very similar voice/sound.
Love that euphoric look on your face when you were blowing on a high gain lead tone with delay - we've all been there - its a good place to be.
pete....u are the man . . you need more exposure.. these songs that you create for the demos you do are amazing.
Keyser Soze and like that... He was gone.
Sean Gordon what?? How has he gone?
Can't get any better than Pete doing a RK Flyrig demo...amazing as always man.
Still the best place to hear great demos of great gear. The tunes and playing are absolutely awe inspiring :)
Damn you Pete, seriously. I've been avoiding this thing for a year and buying other stuff...but not now. Even my wife listened from the kitchen and said it sounded awesome.
That going into my 81JMP is going to just kill.
😎
And yet another superlative performance by Pete. Amazing and inspirational.
I have the RK5 and it is everything you hear and more. You have to use it to understand just how good it is.
Yeah definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made. Great intro riff Pete.
That sounded freakin awesome. I went with the Paul Landers rig but may have to get this one too.
Pete's playing is unreal! This demo is just unreal! Keep up with that man

Best pedal set up I have ever used.
Wow I love the way you play! I’m going to buy this pedal right now.
Killer riff and playing. You continue to do a great job with gear demos. I feel like like I'm no longer wasting money on stuff. THANKS!
Another great demo Pete, very Soundgarden/Cornellish..Dig that tap/picking trill at the 1:05 mark. Thanks for all the great music man!

I recently watched your FR5 review and really liked it, but this one... OMG! I'll go for it.
Thanks Pete for another great review!
Pete there are literally albums of awesome music in your demos!
Seems like you will love to buy whatever Pete demos 😂 such an amazing musician!
Pete.. you are one of the Masters of Guiter-Sound advices on You Tube.
I appreciate, every each one of your Videos.
So thankful……
Just can't get enough of the song :) , makes me miss this pedal as I sold it after using it a couple of weeks.

A lot of fun inside one box. Very nice, and versatile unit.
Dude! Another kick ass demo Pete. Love love love the tuning on that song man. Sounds epic

Just watched RKs live Blu-ray from Japan and he was using this and I was really wanting to know more about it. Thanks for the video Pete!

Pete, that jam felt very Cornell. Keep the Sound alive, my friend!
Nice job there Mr. Thorn. Just bought the FR5 based on your two videos of these pedals. I'm more of a Plexi guy so I opted for that one, but these demos really help show the capabilities of when used correctly. Double thumbs up!!
Hey Pete, awesome review and tasteful playing! The RK5 is one piece of tonal palette!
And that, folks, is how you demo a piece of gear!
True that. Amazing how many demos/reviews include so much chatter and not enough demo. Pete 's reviews are the best.
Agreed - especially the "soloed" sections to demonstrate the individual parts and sounds. Pete is a pro. BTW, I've had the RK5 for about a year now (and recorded several albums with it), and also just bought the CALI version. Great pedals.

Wow, commented before, but man can PT play....what a demo!!!!! Not to mention all of the incredible playing techniques...
I run my RK5 in my loop, plug directly in my amp, sounds awesome, wish it had stereo outputs. great demo Pete.
I was considering the purchase of this item, after watching your video, I decided to go ahead with it , thanks, I really like your music.
Thanks!
Love this solo .. just the right feeling and then you take it higher! Nice job Pete! Would love to see a break down on this one! ;-)
Excellent tune at start. Great demo too.
What a great dark sounding tune !!! I dig that realy well !
Excellent Demo as Always. Thank You!!!
What a fantastic guitar player you are, Pete!
Man, at the price point of $269US, you just can't lose. What a great piece of gear. Just ordered one.
Good God. That was a helluva solo there Pete. I can hear RK's sound in the overdrive, but you put your stamp on it for sure.
Love that opening progression.

+Dan Gormley thanks Dan!
Pete you are always killing it I swear, well done
Great playing Pete. Killer.
Holy crap Pete, you just blew my mind in that demo..well done..
I own 4 of the 5 fly rigs (not the Rammstien one). Had the original 5 and RK5. They're great for teaching and gigging
The pick ups on that Thorn-SS cut though the mix like a sharp knife!
What a fantastic demo for such a great piece of gear! Thanks Pete! :)
Amazing playing Pete! I'm always in awe of your tone and style.
Came for the equipment review. Stayed for the (superb) playing. Subscribed!

The demo track was very reminiscent of Camel. Made me want to go and dig out my copy of "Rain Dances" (or just use spotify). Love your playing even though I'm not in the market for one of these things.

Damn, this is a lot more impressive to me than the other flyrig you'd demoed. (Maybe he's born with it--maybe it's OMG.)
lmao
Happy Canada day, Pete!
Great review. Pete! I own the Kotzen and the Cali of the fly rigs and I use them often. I use the Cali more than the others, but the Kotzen comes in second for my taste.
Great Review!!!
Thank you for the video.
Another important thing: Your musics are amazing.
A great salute from Brazil!!!
Hi Pete. Thanks for your demo's! I've purchased the Fly Rig 5 Cali and i'm very pleased with it, especially with the Sans Amp section and the DLA. I do not attach too much value to your demos because you are able to make a microwave sound good;) ( This is a compliment btw!)
Killer playing Bro! That red thing sounds great.
White Hot Lightning Solo , amazing tone!!
great demo! it is a great pedal, I run it through a fender bassbreaker 15 and sounds incredible
Epic Peter, great demo. I'm buying now...
