Also meant to say that dot projector is not lighting up when I press test. Though I know the jumper has been done correctly

7 minutes in and my original dot matrix doesn't read. Just says "data is empty. save failed." D: it's never straightforward in this biz
Did you read the original dot projector first?
Then write to the new cable?
Before doing anything to it.
@@VCCBoardRepairs yes, simply disconnecting front camera then attaching to JCID. Shows connected detects it's 11 pro, DE Chip: IIC Normal, NTC: Normal, S,B,D,A Abnormal, but when reading it gives error immediately.
I had that once. It had liquid damaged pads under the dot projector.

This is an insane level of effort that went into reverse engineering this stuff so they can make that device to read and write the pairing information, just so you can then replace components small enough to feed an ant, and all that because Apple decided to deliberately engineer its stuff to not be repairable by others, so that they can squeeze out more from their customers.

this stuff goes waaaay over my head, but I still watched it to the very end, loved it! my Face ID just broke and I was looking for solutions and I found this!!! I'm doomed.
now I hear that by fixing this feature (opening up the phone), I might use the water resistivity of the phone, is this true?
That's great! Thank you.
Water resistance is something you should never really rely on. Even Apple doesn't warranty or guarantee any water resistance. Think of it like a bonus that it's there but don't expect it to always work.
We see many water damaged iPhones that are supposed to be water resistance.
Although opening an iPhone does technically reduce the water resistance, so does regular wear and tear. The adhesive seal wears down on its own too.

Is it possible to just replace the whole assembly? So the the bracket with the frontcamera and the sensors and that just connect the cable of the dot connector and in that way code the sensor? Would he so much easier
No, that's not possible. The sensors are paired.

The JC V1S test said "abnormal" which means do the flex replacement like in the video
Appreciate the great detailed video but this is beyond my skill level. I’ll just live without Face ID until my phones paid off and I can go into debt on a new one

What the tiny transistor you removed is used for?
We're bypassing part of the circuit of the dot projector, as the new flex has a new IC that will control it. So we don't need that transistor.
Can my portrait mode in front camera works with out fixing the dot projector or how can i do it

what is the usual cause of failure for the truedepth? My face id stopped working a month after apple replaced my battery. I’m wondering if its no longer water resistant and moisture got inside…
Why do you replace the flex? Surely the defective part is the chip that you’ve bypassed. In which case, could you just leave the old flex and just do the chip bypass then no re-programming is required?

Hi, random question here. What if I wanted to use the cameras for face tracking outside the phone but with something to extend the flex, like a cable maybe, so they connected from far. I always wonder if I could put the cameras inside a VR headset for face tracking but keeping the phone outside the VR headset because of course it won't fit. Does flex, connectors (or whatever is called) extensions exist?

Hey Jesse great video as always! I have an X and an 11 one that took a bath and the other broken screen after a fall and both of them have Face ID disabled. While I was able to fix/replace many of the things including a dead battery, I am not seeing any physical issues with either flex under a microscope. The JC V1SE tells me the 4 gold contacts as abnormal and give me a message "Fuses Need to replace IC". I am wondering if changing the flex will in fact have any effect?
Yes, you have to go through this repair process to fix the Dot Projector.
We're not replacing the flex because the flex is damaged.
We replace the flex because the new flex has a new eeprom that is bypassing the original eeprom in the dot projector.
@@VCCBoardRepairs Thank you for your help. This now makes sense - never understood the role of the chip on the new flex previously. I am going to give this a try and if I fail (never tried micro-soldering as I don't have the steadiest of hands), it should be on its way to your mailbox.
@@shrekogre1010 If you never done any microsoldering, I wouldn't recommend you try this as your first repair attempt.
For dot projector repairs, we don't accept previous repair attempts.

What about When was truedepth error .camera error in i2c tester. Flex change. Programming. Test ok. And still truedepth error. All camera works fine. Truetone. Proxy.
i'm not sure. I use JC tools only. I dont know how i2C solution works.
How do I fix my face ID on my iPhone XR when the earpiece and all of that stuff got changed because the ribbon got ripped?
If the flex has been replaced, no way to get Face ID working again without going to Apple directly, which can be expensive
Or find a repair shop who is IRP

Hi Jesse, once again thanks for uploading this video. Yesterday I followed the video and all went well as testing went from abnormal to to normal. I used the exact tools you used including the "clamp" guide to make sure the flex "square" is aligned correctly. So the message "a problem was detected with the TrueDepth........" has now gone. So I though I was onto a winner.
But I now get the higher lower issue when trying to use Face iD. Would you have any advice on that? I followed another guide but without success
ah yes, i've had that a few times. Sometimes, it's alignment of the dot projector with the lens.
But sometimes, it can be the whole metal bracket holding the IR Cam. It may have warped.

Hello can help me please ! is for now 2 iphone same problem ( xs - 11pro) i broke dot projector and correct me if i wrong , so , i save read file on my pc , change dot projector with a new one and other flex original new dissambled from other face , so then i install base + ic on dot projector ( you know) and one time inslatted i wirte the code !!! then power on my iphone and configure face id perfectly !!! but when try to unlock nothing!!!!! please let me know what is the problem ! also front camere with *ritratto* work !! pleasseeeee

Why couldn’t it be replace with an entire new (TrueDepth) camera part? Bcuz all those elements and steps seem unnecessary. Why go through so much length and breadth, excuse my ignorance. Amazon sell the entire component to discard the busted on and put in the new?????
You cannot just replace it. These components are paired.
If you replace Face ID fully stops working
You can talk to Apple as to why they do that

question for ya! if i just get that reader thing and a used oem front camera for my xs can i just program an entire camera module and face id will work again? im pretty tech savy and i replaced the screen and battery in my xs and ive put batterys cameras n screens in iphones bef but i cant solder can i just put an entire camera module in it n program it by reading data from old camera n writing it to the new one?

What is the point to program the new flex if you just bypass the mosfet? Or it has to do something that the IC is faulty on the dot projector?
You need to copy over dot projector data onto the new flex. otherwise, it won't work
My iPhone Xsmax the faceid stop working caused by the through depth camera and I didn't change the LCD or water damage.. but immediately it stop I restart my phone and it started working again, suddenly it stop again what can I do to it

Hi sir I did tried to fixed a faceid yesterday after I did all steps and plugged the dot projector back to Jcid for testing it says everything works fine, all normal but then there was no red flashing during the test cos I used my phone camera, I thought it was nothing since it’s all normal I put back the flex In position and test with the phone, the faceid doesn’t work, what did I do wrong?

What if my Face ID got disabled because I updated the iOS?
just updating iOS won't cause Face ID to stop working. There is likely an issue with one of the Face ID sensors.
