    This week we put an amazing 3-D printed warbird to the test. The new colorfabb P-51 mustang is printed exclusively from high temperature light weight PLA , but it also is features a retractable landing gear design. This model is easy to transport and is fantastic in the air. While we were getting the mustang ready to put in the air, we also put a new design to the test with a 3D printed FT tenet hybrid. This extra time we had is thanks to the printing services of NGEN3D. Now you do not need to have your own 3-D print set up to be able to purchase and assemble your own 3-D model! NGEN3D will print and deliver the kit to you. None of this would be possible without the amazing designs from Eclipson, lightweight PLA from Colorfabb, and print services from NGEN3D. If you’re looking to get into 3-D printed flight now is the time with many great discounts available from these companies.

    Eclipson should make the P38 Lightning. I imagine it would be a significant upgrade from 3DLabPrint's version, which is a complicated build even if it did have good instructions (which it does not). I can think of several things that could be improved from that model...

      The 3DLabPrint P38 is probably my favorite model, but man is the build awful. I just recently started learning blender so that I can add in filament alignment pegs to the tail boom sections - they're almost impossible to get perfectly aligned due to the absence of positive keying.
      I would love an Eclipson designed one. They really seem to have hit a good balance of cost, performance, and ease of construction with their warbird collection.

  • @swissfreek
    @swissfreek Год назад +1

    I think it's really cool how 3D printing opens up possibilities for cool shapes and planes that would be really difficult or impossible to make otherwise (unless you were a big company doing molded foam).
    My issue with 3D printed planes, though, is that everything has to go exactly right every time. The print has to go right (no weak spots), the build has to go right (same thing), and the flying has to go right (no crashes). One hard landing and you're putting all that plastic in the recycle bin, especially with the lightweight PLA stuff that is mostly air and baking soda.
    For a P-51 it makes sense since someone who attempts that should/would be an experienced flyer, but for something like the Tenet? I mean, that's a plane that is meant to crash and bash by a beginner. By making it 3D printed, we're back to the balsa days that us older guys remember. You spent 9 months building a balsa trainer in your attic, and then you either never flew it because you were too scared to destroy it (that was me), or you flew it once, stalled it, and turned it into kindling. A lot of people never even started in this hobby because of an experience like that.

    3. Do a review on cameras, goggles, transmitters at a few price points and technical levels. It has been years since you have done this.
    4. Maybe go over some autopilot features and GPS navigation.
    5. Show off a few kits that would work well with a system like this (like skill level or say bomb payload, or maybe even a powered glider). Talk a bit about what engine packs, servos, receivers... needed for the kits and what battery or batteries you would need to long distance flights.

    There are two planes that I've been super wanting in 40-46", PT-17 and a Pitts. Neither are warbirds I guess, but those are the two I would buy at the drop of a hat.

    Very tempted to buy especially with those discounts but have several of their models that I've printed but not got around to building. I do like the retracts though and if they design a Spitfire with those I will definitely get it.

    If eclipson looking for and advice on future models, would be nice to have something big, long range, with twin-engine on the wings (about 2m wingspan), something close to X-UAV Clouds or similar
