He met a girl in a city he was touring in. They fell for each other instantly, but they both knew they'd only have one night together because the band was only in the city for one show, then flying out to the next city. The song is about weighing the intensity and pleasure of one wonderful night of love and pleasure together, against the loss that you would feel upon leaving, and possibly never seeing each other again. In this, he chose to have the one night love affair with her, knowing that he would endure the pain of the leaving just as she would. So, he is asking her to cast caution to the wind tonight, and don't worry about anything, but say a prayer for him the morning after when he leaves. It's a beautiful song, and the lyrics Simon writes are many times second to none. This is so much better than today's artists using nothing but vulgarity to say the same thing. They make it nasty, he makes it beautiful. Nobody, but nobody does smooth like Duran Duran.
Beautifully put to explain what this great song is about.
Thankyou for this, I never understood the lyrics especially when I was just a teenager.😁
Great synopsis!! I've never heard this song, I think that I have only known two songs from Duran-Duran..I'm glad you broke this down because now I can appreciate this song ☺️☺️☺️.
Good way of putting that. LOVE DURAN DURAN💗🇺🇸👍
Curious where you read this explanation from?
@@tameradeuel5798 , an interview with the band somewhere back around 84'
Duran Duran was such a big band in the 80's, that they were hailed as the second coming of the Beatles.
Not just my favorite DD song, one of my favorite songs of all time.
Mine too!
Same.
I concur!! Serious was also One of their Best songs and more recently Pressure on but 80’s music will never die that’s why current artists keep nicking samples from that era or covering the Songs.
Hahaha
I see Save a Prayer as a "radio hit" for the masses. Not one of their best.
"Lonely in your nightmare" is much more poetic and has more feeling.
"Because your lonely in your nightmare, let me in"
"There's heat beneath your winter, let me in"
Fucking beautiful !
Back in the day when this came out, most people had no idea they were singing about hit it and quit it... one night stand never sounded so beautiful!!! Simon is a sexy genius! Duranie for ever! D2
Duranie forever too!!
Really? I think everyone knew it was about a 1 night stand.
Well considering it came out when I was 10, I never knew at that time what it was about, and never really thought about it for decades. I know I don't really think too deeply about a lot of lyrics to try to decipher them. I just listen to the whole song and don't worry about analyzing it
Tofu Tuesday
Well, I would hope, that at 10, you wouldn’t really know about 1 night stands. And there’s really nothing to analyze when he literally says “some people call it a one night stand...”
Again, I never thought about it :::shrug::: Not everyone cares what a song is about. Also, if you really want to analyze it, "some people call it a one night stand" could be interpreted as "some people do, but we don't" so maybe it's not? Who knows 😀. As a Duran Duran fan for nearly 40 years, I still don't care 😁
Duran Duran had real sophistication. They hung with all the fashion Icons of the time. The videos were shot in far away romantic exotic destinations. A different world from the one we have now. When will we have something to aspire to again?:(
Adooooore Duran Duran!!!!!!!
Duran Duran did the theme song for the Bond movie "View to a Kill" back in the 80's. They were big on MTV back then.
I've seen Duran many times! MY favorite band! They are still putting out new music and selling out tours! Very underrated!
As a. 13yr old I was a mad duran fan, saw them live Nov 1983 - brilliant! Their videos were also exciting and new for the MTV generation (Gen X like me)
Duranies Forever!!!!
Love watching them live, my last one was Dec 2015 in Glasgow, they had Seal too it was like 2 concerts as both were outstanding. Don’t think I will ever grow out of Duran or even the 80s lol 😁🙏🏻
I saw in them 83 too Greensboro NC
This was my all time favorite DD song. It’s perfect.
One of my favorites.
Great song. Has a genuinely unique feeling to it.
Duran Duran are the Beatles for Generation X ❤
Filmed around beautiful Miressa in Sri Lanka. I travelled to Sri a Lanka in late 2019 and sat on the very same beach. Sri Lanka is a wonderful country full of nature! Duran Duran were my favourite band as a kid of the 80s. Saw them live when I was 13. Thanks for the upload
Love DD! Listening for 37yrs!! "Ordinary World"- best Duran Duran song ever!!!
In short, he's saying we've got one night. But for that one night we'll "call it paradise"!
I was a big Duran Duran fan. My room was covered from wall to wall with posters of them. The first concert i ever went to was Duran Duran. I was so disapointed to learn that a week before we arrived in Paris the where there to shoot the clip for View to a kill.
Love your reactions and how you interpret the lyrics.
Was? WAS !??? :)
This is the most beautiful video I've ever seen !!!!
Its worth mentioning that Duran Duran were basically responsible for the music video industry. In the early days music video's were shot very cheaply, like for just a few £1000, usually just a band miming on stage filmed on a single camera with maybe a few cheap effects.
Duran Duran took it to a whole new level spending £100,000's in the early 80's. And going to exotic locations using equiptment straight from the movies.
It took a while before other bands caught up with them.
Please please please react to Duran Duran’s “The Chauffeur”. Thanks.
My favourite band ever, Serious is another great song by DD..
Probably my favorite Duran Duran song, I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but its a hauntingly beautiful tune.
I love this song! Probably my favorite from Duran Duran. "New Moon on Monday,"and "A View to Kill" are also my tops favs.
I had Duran Duran posters all over my bedroom when I was a tee. I haven't heard this song in a good little while.
I still love that music. Hungry Like a Wolf was one of there big hits.
I love Duran Duran...Definitely one of my favorites from them. But absolutely check out more of their music!
Me and my friends were completely enamored with this band in the 80's. Fun to hear these old songs again. Brings back great memories.
One of their most beautiful songs they made. You may want to check out Arcadia. A project some members
of Duran Duran did back in the 80's.
I agree!!
"The flame" is one of the best songs of Arcadia and it has a GREAT and FUN video
ruclips.net/video/oenc1E4hJsE/видео.html
@@BarrySlisk That is a good song.
One of my favorite songs from them. Great in concert🤟🤟😎
Duran Duran is showcasing Sri Lanka in the video, a place the whole band fell in love with. I love the mood of this song. I never dissected the lyrics but the atmosphere is amazing. Love Duran Duran.
I was so into the Duran Duran videos in the 80's. My favorite ws HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF and this one. Both were so visually appealing.
Girls On Film was pretty X-rated !
Duran Duran set the bar for music videos in the 1980's with Australian film maker Russell MulCahey. He produced them like mini movies at the time. Their videos are classics !
You need to visit Sri Lanka. The whole country is visually appealing.
These dominated the uk in the 80s and smashed it in america too their publishing money must be amazing they still get played every 2 mins
that's so cool.im lifelong duran fan. So to see black lady is a blessing. wonderful
I was the biggest Duran Duran fan in my teens - this brought back loads of memories 😊
Save a prayer la miglior canzone di sempre!
I just love Duran Duran!!
India, I hope you do more Duran Duran , I absolutely love this band. I wish I had made an effort to see this band perform live near me back in its hay days. You should react to Rio, Hungry like the Wolf, New Moon on Monday, and A view to a kill ( James Bond version). You'll love it. A whole nother rabbit hole for you.
A View to a kill is great.
@@BarrySlisk
AVTAK has 10 different mistakes on it..
The arrangement was sloppy.
One of my favorites. Sad, but good, brings back so many memories.
When I was 12 in the very early 80s Duran Duran was one of my favorite bands and I still love them today
It is so funny to watch the changes you go through trying to figure out what a video is about.. That's why we love you!!
Had posters of those bad boys on my bedroom wall back in the day🤣🥰
Duran Duran has the best videos! This song is definitely about a one night stand but I think the prayer the morning after is due to having regrets for the one night stand!❤️❤️
Thought everyone knew about Duran videos. God I miss them days, care free, fun and top tunes around
This ballad is timeless..
I gave up trying to work out what DDs music videos had to do with thier songs! I came to the conclusion they were just the Bands holiday home movies. Always beautiful interesting locations!!!
Your right if you watch this video plus Rio and hungry like the wolf, they are all filmed in the same basic location. It was cheaper then having a whole budget to go some place else to film the video's. Yes they were technically on vacation.
Hearing this song always makes me picture beaches and palm trees. ❤️🏝
One of my favorite driving, chill vibes songs.
Wow!! My favorite Duran Duran song! So smooth an sweet. 🙂🙂
el mejor grupo de la historia
My very first concert was Duran Duran at Universal Amphitheater in Universal City, California. Been a fan since 1982.
The video was directed by Russell Mulcahy who went on to direct movies such as Highlander and the Shadow.
He also did Wild Boys.
IMO, this was always one of the most beautifully shot videos ever. Filmed in Sri Lanka.
Takes me back to student days listening to this over and over 🥰
This 1 and ordinary world are my fav Duran Duran songs
Gorgeous Song! They wrote some of the best tunes, especially slow songs!!! Shot in the beautiful island of Sri Lanka.
Dude. They have a 40 year discography!!! Keep going.
Jenn-X here. The collection of videos that Duran Duran did in the early 80's was meant to promote a sense of 'Jet-Set' lifestyle story-telling. 'Rio', 'Save A Prayer', plus the ones that were never shown on MTV back in the day. (There was a videotape collection that you had to be 18 y/o to buy)
'Hungry Like the Wolf' was made not long after 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' was in theatres. (And many of the videos were filmed in India. IKR?) 😉😁
I was a hardcore 'Duranie' in my teen years. (The nickname given to rabid DD fans; kind of like 'Hunger Games' fans are called 'Tributes', and 'LOTR' fans are 'Ringers')
I have no idea what Duran Durans lyric mean, I think most people could not interpret Simon Lebons lyrics. but I love this video. DD were/are known for their videos done in different or exotic locations. This was filmed in Sri Lanka, which is probably near the Indian ocean.
Sri Lanka is an island located just below the southern tip of the Indian peninsula. I thought every DD fan knew this.
Sri Lanka is literally surrounded by the Indian Ocean....
My favourite band since 1981. Saw them live a good few times the last being Glasgow December 2015, they are outstanding always. The Chauffeur, Come Undone, The Reflex, Pressure Off, Reach Up For The Sunrise, Hold Back The Rain, Last Night In The City, New Religion, Careless Memories, Rio hmmm I could be here a long time 😁, please keep listening to Duran Duran, you will be happy 🥰🙏🏻. Also Tears For Fears’ album Songs From The Big Chair 👌🏻 ooooh and The Waterboys their song The Whole of The Moon, this song and The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary are sure to get your feet tapping, would love to see your reaction 🥰🙏🏻👍🏻
Great song amazing video definitely my favourite song by them they were never off the radio in the 80s
As a long time Duran Duran fan I think their best songs are the ones never played on the radio and thus unknown to most people.
The Chauffeur
Hold me
Tel Aviv Demo (the one with singing)
A matter of feeling
Salt in the rainbow
...and many many many many more.....
This is my favorite Duran Duran song.
Certainly one of if not their best
The instrument you are curious about is a Pan Flute. A guy named Zanfir cut a couple of best selling albums some 30 or so years ago with the Pan Flute. It is a really popular instrument in the Peruvian Andes.
That was a pan flute but Nick Rhodes actually played a synth with a pitch bender for the song.
@@scottj214 You can also get that effect on a synth using portamento.
Probably my 2nd favourite Duran classic, right behind The Reflex...and that mysterious musical sound you hear at the beginning of the video and in it is created by the Roland Jupiter 8 synthesizer which is being programmed and played by the great Nick Rhodes from the group....that arpeggiated synth intro at the beginning and through the song is very well known and ubiquitous amongst 80s/Duran fans...
India!! I **love** your shirt! Looking lovely, lady. ❤️❤️❤️
I love this song! It’s in the top 10 on my 80’s playlist
It’s about a one night of letting go with a stranger just taking that risk and letting go.
The video was shot in Sri Lanka
Thanks for watching and reviewing my request !! 😁🧡🖤
Classic Duran Duran
Please react to Duran Duran "Girls on Film", "Hundry Like The Wolf" video. I would LOVE to see your reaction!!
The Chauffeur, Friends of Mine, Last Chance on the Stairway as well.
One of the most beautiful vids of the early music video age!
Good Job She listened to “Save a prayer” as it’s a Classic Duran Duran 80’s Song and was just a “Reflex” reaction that could have “Come Undone” and put the “Pressure On” but we all love this Tune and even the Folks in “Rio” like this and all the People on “Planet Earth”😜
Ok I’m off to raid my fridge as I’m “Hungry Like The Wolf”🙏
This is about how he fell for this woman but they both know they only have the night and tomorrow he will be gone. And so he sits on the beach and wonders about what they both have experienced.
❤️❤️❤️❤️Duran Duran
Please do more Duran Duran! I love this song and Video! I love Simon, Nick, John, and Roger! Shout out to Andy!!❤️❤️
Most of Duran Duran’s lyrics don’t make sense on their own. I think all together they give an overall poetic meaning. Loved DD in 80s and love them now.
I have been a fan for over 30 years and most of their lyrics are a mystery to me... :)
@@BarrySlisk
Use your imagination!
Enigmatic lyrics don't have to be completely meaningless.
@@tumslucks9781
I'm just bad at deciphering lyrics.
What is New Religion about? What is the New Religion?
@@BarrySlisk A New Religion is something positive to believe in!
@@tumslucks9781
I don't get a positive vibe from that song.
At one point these Guys were one of the biggest Groups in the World. They helped epitomize The Second Wave Of The British Invasion. They started on in Birmingham, England where Nigel "John" Taylor became "Mates" aka "Friends" with Nicholas Bates who went under the last name of "Rhodes". He didn't want to be known as "Master Bates". They started out in 1979 who took their name after seeing Barbarella starring Jane Fonda a Sci Fi Classic. Simon Lebon who is Singing wasn't the "original" Lead singer that went to Stephen Duffy who was in the Group from 1978-1979. They became Friends with Roger Taylor who together worked at a Nightclub called The Rum Runner. Andy Taylor answered an Ad from Melody Maker to join the Group. However keep in mind that although John, Andy & Roger have the "Last" name Taylor they are not "Related". Simon got into The Group when his Girlfriend recommended him. If you can check out The Reflex. They were at their peak until 1986 when Roger & Andy left The Group and they slowly went downhill. They came back a couple of years ago but due to creative differences with Andy Taylor they don't associate with him professionally or personally.
Wild Boys. Girls on Film and Notorious.. Simon LeBon, John Taylor, Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes
What about Andy Taylor?
@@mournblade1066 forgot all about him. can't lie. I was always a little fixated on John to be honest.
I hated them in the 80s...love them now..!!
Ahhh the 80's, the best music era(for me).
Hi India hope you are doing well.love from Canada ❤
Love you, India! 💖 You make me see and hear all these old songs in a completely fresh light. Would love to see you react to Kate Bush, especially her singles Wuthering Heights and Babooshka! 😘
Awesome requests!!!❤️
Kate’s my favourite female singer/songwriter (producer, director, lol...). Love seeing requests for her!
Wuthering Heights is a perfect start! Babooshka is fantastic, too! Another great intro is Running Up That Hill... a lot of people seem to love it.
My favourite Kate songs are Night Of The Swallow & Wuthering Heights... but she has so many fantastic tracks!
She’s just amazing!! ❤️
Srilangka not India
The most beautiful video ever
My 15 year old self is swooning. 😍
You have got some serious insight into lyrics. You picked up on the one night stand aspect before he even mentioned it! There are so many great DD videos to check out. They were basically the darlings of the MTV era when music videos were new and epic productions. They have sooo many good ones. Simon Le Bon is pretty much a poet. I'd tell you to react to the uncut version of The Chauffeur, but I'm not even sure if you can. You should if you can! Otherwise, New Moon on Monday, Please Please Tell me Now, The Reflex, and the video for DD's theme for the James Bond flick A View to a Kill are all great choices.
"New Moon on Monday, Please Please Tell me Now, The Reflex"
Oh, God no! There are much better DD songs. I have mentioned some above.
@@BarrySlisk they are all good. Definitely some better, but those come with pretty cool videos as well. I have no hate for anything DD, but I actually like their oldest stuff most. Of course the album Rio is a classic so songs off of that are a must.
Today, Monday, July 30, was a new moon. Would have been the perfect day to do their song, "New Moon on Monday!"
Beautiful song, I never really paid attention to the lyrics and I had the tape.
John Taylor's bass makes this song. One of the most underrated.
80's I just had a flashback you should react the spandau ballet their counterpart
Their videos were some of the most expensive at the time because of the locations.
I think they just wanted a free trip to India, so came up wth the video, lol.
You are so very sweet! Yes, it was totally a pick up line. I had a drummer for a band use it on me. It was paradise. And many years later, I still look back with a smile on my face. I love this song.
All of their videos were filmed on location and they were known for the designer suits . All their videos were like fashion shoots.
The instrument he's playing is a Pan Flute. Pan was the mythological god of the wild, shepherds and flocks, and rustic music. he was a creature known as a satyr, half goat and half man, that used to play this kind of instrument.
Fantastic
This group from my city in England. Birmingham. Home of Cadbury, Rover, UBrp and Duran Duran
I love Duran Duran. To get a better idea of just how huge they were, you should react to their video for The Reflex.
It's never Paradise. That's why we save a prayer till the next morning...❤
I love your ability to interpret lyrics on the fly. I usually don't do that until like my tenth time listening to the song, haha. This is one song I taught myself to play on my synthesizer. Love those tones.
You should check out some Depeche Mode! My go to album is Black Celebration, but I know most people love Violator.
It might be a wot, a pan flute related instrument on the video, but the actual sound is Roland Jupiter 8 synthesiser, likewise the famous intro. :) You nailed it. There's an interview on "Classic Albums" series where the singer Simon Le Bon explains the one night stand - paradise "being more than just the rumpled sheet aspect". It is on tube. For those who want to search it "Rio - Classic Albums" should bring it.
The music video is basically just for the exotic place to make it more interesting. The band got critique back then for the impression of rich kids in a poor country, exploiting it.
The musical instrument you are asking about is called a "Pan" flute. It is an ancient instrument named after the Greek god, Pan, who was half-man, half goat, and played the musical instrument. Back in the late-1980s and early-1990s, there were TV commercials for albums/CDs by Romanian musician Gheorghe Zamfir (also known as "Zamfir", pronounced "ZAHM-feer"), who was described as "The Master Of The Pan Flute". In the commercials, Zamfir would be seen playing instrumentals of recognizable Pop songs, mostly of romantic songs. Zamfir is a very good musician You might want to react to one of his music videos, if you can find one on the Internet.
