This song is full of Australian slang. "Chunder" means to vomit. ("Watch out under!" when you throw up over the balcony.) "A fried-out combie" - a Volkswagen bus with a bad engine. "Zombie" = weed. Vegemite is a yeast extract that's eaten in Australia, very salty and bitter, but good if you use just a little bit. (It's called Marmite in the UK.) The hippie trail was the journey that hippies in the thousands took across the Far East and into the Middle East in the 60's. The Land Down Under is Australia itself, because it's on the lower half of the world map. When they hop away from the camera, they're imitating kangaroos. :)
This became the unofficial Australian national anthem in 1983, when Australia won the Americas cup yacht race , ending a 132-year tenure by the New york yacht club.
I don't do sports but I'll never forget that yacht race, I was so pumped and then the weeks of down under blaring on media across the country. Fun days.
RUclips copyright strikes are a nightmare. I feel your pain and admire your persistence to create quality content in the face of this resistance! Keep the faith. This is all music playing when I was growing up. Great times!
They have a song called “Overkill” that is amazing. Colin Hay (the lead singer) released an acoustic version of it 20 years ago. I highly recommend it.
A bunch of years ago a comedy game show on Aussie TV mentioned that the little flute riff after the chorus was taken from the classic folk song 'Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree'. Immediately the rights holder to that song sued Colin Hay and wanted all of the royalties from the song. From what I remember the court awarded them a cut of the profits from the date they filed the lawsuit which got them only a couple hundred grand. But Colin Hay said he had to spend five million dollars in court defending it..
An interesting bit of information about this song. The part in the song and video were the big guy offers him a Vegemite sandwich and it is a real sandwich in Australia. The company that owns the name Vegemite heard that the band had incorporated their sandwich into the song. They came to the band and ask if the band would want to promote the sandwich. The band surprisingly declined the offer.
The land down under is Australia. The song is full of Aussie slang and stereotypes. This is a song that unites, everyone sings along too, a classic. Xo
It's one of our Australian Anthems... Just shows our sense of humour, we don't take ourselves serious ... Listen to this Aussie Group called- Icehouse Great Southern Land this is another one of our Anthems.. Stay safe and God Bless 🇦🇺🙏🇦🇺
Yes! Love Men At Work. The first two albums are a brilliant, irreverent mix of pop, jazz and reggae that are well worth the time to absorb. Plus, they're just fun.
Great to see you back. I can't believe you haven't reacted to this already. Another Aussie group I highly recommend are Hunters And Collectors. Too many great songs to mention but Blind Eye is one of my favourites by them.
Worldwide the term “the land down under” refers to Australia. The band is Australian, they are singing of Australian things….like a Vegemite sandwich, a popular spread there.
No, the land Down Under is Australia. He asks "do you speak-a my language?"... of course he does, it's English, just with a funny accent. "Gave me a Vegemite sandwich..." Vegemite is a popular spread in Australia made of yeast, it's very salty so a little is all you need. Try it on toast and butter. Like Marmite, but better. Those "dance moves" is them imitating kangaroos bounding away, which live in Aussie land. I recommend "Beds Are Burning" by Midnight Oil, another great Australian rock band.
It's funny how our reactions are always - whatever, we don't take ourselves too seriously. I know it's true, but it's still really funny, especially if a young person wanted to sing about their country today.
Men At Work were sued by the writer of Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree, written by Marion Sinclair in 1934,the flute section sounds very much the same.
I went through your videos. You react to a unique variety of music. I’m into hard rock mainly buy almost everything you react to is something I’ve enjoyed listening to growing up. I guess it’s nostalgic for me. Great music choice and also very different from other channels. I love how you don’t have the fake theatrical reactions like some of the other channels have. Wish you luck and hope your brand grows. Peace.
Dearest India. I love your videos. You have this engaging aura about you, whichever song you listen to. That smile and fun side is so beautiful and when the song is sad you feel it in your heart. I hope all is well with you. I hope we can see new videos soon. Much love.
The land down under is Australia. Many allusions are made throughout to things native to Australia. The lyric is “head full of zombies”. Zombie is an alcoholic drink that’s rum and brandy based. The grind has paid off. You’ve become one of the best, most enjoyable reactors. But everybody is entitled to rest now and then.
India, i love you. You do such good input and comments on different musik. I would love to hear your input on Bob Marley and The Wailers. Often when a song is good, you need to "wait for it". Then it can floor you. Also a very good group is Boney M. Tragic history, althoug i've always loved the ladys in this group. If you find them, look at the apperance of the females. When in sweden, they had a good time, Germany not so good. Please try to give input on one of this. Lots of love and hug your kids as well. HAPPY DAYS
Yeah you should definitely listen to other Men at Work (overkill and who can it be now especially) but also Colin’s solo stuff, I would love to watch someone take in Waiting For My Real Life to Begin for the first time
Hey India! We haven't heard from you in a while. I hope everything is ok and that you and your family are doing well. Stay safe and protected as best you can!😊
I have SO MANY songs I'd love for you to react to. I've been through your entire video library and I'm fairly confident that not only have you not heard these songs but, also that you have not reacted to them. Lemme compile a list lol.
You can enjoy it on its own but it means so much more if you know the context. Basically, it's a tale of a hippie traveler through Asia and the Middle East (kind of a journey that many young Australians take, especially back in the 60s) who comes across all these different sights and sounds and smells and tastes and it all brings him home to his home country, Australia. It's sort of a journey of discovery and ode to a proud, hardworking people who love to also have a good time and live life to the fullest.
Oi India, aqui é um super fã seu do Brasil, acho você linda e admiro muito suas reações, te imploro pra você fazer uma do max richter on the nature of daylight movies ... te adoro demais🙏🏽🙏🏽😍😍😍🤗🤗🤗
Hiiiiii! I really love your reactions cause you really go into detail at the end how you interpret the songs and your opinion on them! I think your interpretations are very interesting! I would like to recommend to you a band I've grew up with pretty much and who mean a great deal to me because they were and still a big help for me for my depression! The band is called Muse and they are a alt-rock group with elements of space-rock, art rock and a bunch of other stuff! From them I'd directly recommend the Songs Hysteria, Blackout, Ruled by Secrecy, Unintended, Panic Station and Thought Contagion. I hope you're having a wonderful day and greetings from Austria!
Hi India Where you been. Been missing your great personality and reactions to music. If you can please react to TINA TURNER THE BEST original video if you can love me some Tina.
Where are you India question mark and waiting for that I gave you about five stones I thought you might get a kick out of hearing them something. I know what you mean you were grinding we don't have to grind even if you just took one song a week everybody would love to see your face because you're beautiful and do a song just one a week. We all miss you I know I'm not the only one.
You should hear some Rigo Tovar or Selena Quintanilla or (Lorenzo Antonio and his song (doce rosas) or los temerarios, Los Freddies, Grupo Indio there all good mexican singers

Back in the day we here in the US had NO idea what they were on about, but we loved it anyway, lol.
Kangaroo hippity hopping. 😁
I believe Marmite is similar to, but not quite the same as Vegemite.
Awesome Serai3. I never knew Zombie was weed. Now it makes perfect sense listening to it. Preeeeeesh!!!
@@donaldb1 Marmite is the wussie version of Vegemite. 🙂
As an Aussie it's fun to hear so much slang in one go. I love this song!🇦🇺

This became the unofficial Australian national anthem in 1983, when Australia won the Americas cup yacht race , ending a 132-year tenure by the New york yacht club.
Thought Waltzing Matilda was the unofficial anthem & the Aussie cricket team singing Under The Southern Cross I Stand.
They used to belt it out every time they left the dock to go racing.
Sang by a Scot, which sorta dilutes the whole Aussie thing..
I don't do sports but I'll never forget that yacht race, I was so pumped and then the weeks of down under blaring on media across the country. Fun days.
Girl I love you so much! I'm glad you took the time for yourself. Blessings and peace to you❤

Overkill is such an amazing song. Reminds me of my late grandfather. R.I.P. Old man.
Down by the sea is awesome as well
@@robofisk7625 I'm also partial to Who Can It Be Now, in a nostalgic way.

Been watching your reactions for several years now. I love watching you react to music from when I was your age. Keep it up!
We Australians don’t take too many things seriously, so don’t read too much into it.
Well said Roxee, too true
I agree, all about the fun

Thanks for coming back. You are wonderful and beautiful. keep doing what you are doing. thank you!!!

My favorite song from this band has always been "It's a Mistake" from their 2nd album Cargo.
Me too that song has one of the most underrated guitar solos of the 80’s
Whenever you hear them on the radio now ( which isnt very often ) they always play Down Under ( which is a great song ) , but I prefer Overkill .
I used to love this song in the eighties
The land down under is Australia. The song is full of Aussie slang and stereotypes. This is a song that unites, everyone sings along too, a classic. Xo
