If you are not familiar with Steffi Graf, this video sums up her entire career. She always played with this same intensity and effort. She never took matches for granted and never rested on her laurels. Steffi was the ultimate professional.
Virginia Wade offered the best description I ever heard of Graf. Wade said that Steffi never played her opponent, she played to a standard. Hingis, as remarkably gifted as she was, was basically the polar opposite. Hingis usually put in the *least* amount of effort she could get away with. Because Hingis was so spectacular it usually worked. Steffi would NEVER. Steffi was 100% every match, every opponent, every year. What Nadal is the to the ATP, Steffi was to the WTA.
Watching this today 23 April 2024 and this match was more exciting and high quality then any matches today. Steffi Graf will always be the greatest female tennis player.
Graf came back from her late 1994 / early 1995 hiatus with a deadly down the line slice backhand. Very smart tactical choice from her trainer Heinz Günthardt.
She hit that down the line backhand plenty of times in the late 80s though. It disappeared in the early 90s. She also fixed the extension issue as well as in 1990, many noticed that she was hitting her backhand much closer to her body than before. I still can't believe it took the Graf camp that to finally fix that problem. But then again, she did have some shoulder issues throughout much of the early 90s so maybe that's why.
@@peterphilstacey4698 I mean does anyone watch tennis anymore? It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who was obsessed with the women’s tour and now I just don’t care. I don’t even know who is in the top ten.
at 14 hingis was already a player to beat... i love her game❤❤❤❤ graf will never get that 24gs if she was in the williamses, hingis, davenpomret era. plus without seles stabbing, i dnt think she'll get no.1 rank for so long.
Graf played against peak Hingis & Davenport. What are you talking about ?? A past prime Steffi bageled peak Hingis in 1998 Philadelphia & then thrashed her in 1999 F.O. Poor Hingis then cry in her mother's arm😂😂.BTW Serena wouldn't have won 23 slams either if all of her main rivals like Hingis, Davenport, Capriati, Henin (who dominate Serena from 2003-07) didn't have retired early or Venus wouldn't have suffer sjorgen's syndrome. Serena was lucky that she didn't played in Graf/Seles era or Martina/Chrissy era.
oh lord, a Seles cult follower has entered the chat lol 😖 Graf is the GOAT and I loved Hingis, she was also one of my favorites..but nobody compares to Graf except Navratilova..and of course the Williams sisters were amazing also
Grafs movement was grace by definition. She hit hard shots off her forehand and it looked effortless, seemingly easy. She never grunted, screamed or moaned. She like floated. Her superb court coverage thanks to her mobility was one of a kind. Except when injured graf never seem to suffer on court, she never looked tired.

It’s between Steffi, Serena, and the legend Monica was destined to become. Remarkably, Monica is still considered a legend.
This Graf would still be No1 today

I think Steffi made the choice and Günthardt just agreed to it.

Watching the GOAT in action is a privilege thing. You probably will never see any female tennis player like her anymore.
@@rajusaha855 Even God the Almighty will not be able to replicate Steffi, his masterpiece!
@@carrerau7138since Steffi's retirement we never seen a female tennis player with a combination of grace, power, consistency & domination.
Tbh whenever i watched Steffi's matches on RUclips, today's WTA matches looks boring.
Absolutely!
it is awful now
Watching Martina is about as entertaining as it gets though too.

Absolutely agree. The new generation of players look like cookie cutter versions of each other.
4:55 Graf ends this point with a slice backhand clean winner down the line. Tell me it’s not gorgeous.
It was a fantastic weapon of hers.
GRACIAS Steffi Graf 🎾👑🥰
Paris indoor 1995 saw some of Grafs finest Tennis, especially her serve and her slice. Hingis not even 15 years of age here showed her great potential
different class is graf,

Why did the WTA abolished this event in 2015 it was such a great tournament. Serena Williams won her first title at the event in 1999 Paris Indoors.
Owner sold it
Never liked Graf, she looks so clumsy and ungracious on her movements. But I do love Hingis so beautiful and smart❤
Well you are definitely myopic or worse or don't understand what clumsy and ungracious mean. You are not a knowledgeable tennis fan
Consult a good oculist at the earliest. You need one badly😂
