I had you on as background sound while I was making supper and my son asked me “dad, is that one of your friends?” I guess it’s the soft tone of the voice, but it made me laugh because of the old saying “metal music is a bunch of gentlemen using an outlet to vent.” Or something of that nature but it’s just funny how a tatted up dude’s voice would call a child to think it was one of his dad’s friends! Great content, sir!
Wow, thank you so much ! This might just be my favorite comment ever ! My biggest goal with my content is to create a kind of vibe that makes people feel like we’re just casually hanging out and talking about music together, and the fact that your son felt like we were friends really warms my heart.
Born in 96, old enough to remember the very end of the Myspace era. What a shame.
Also excellent video and documentary!
it was a real fun time - i'm glad that the old school deathcore sound (dear god i feel like a dinosaur writing it) is still going somehow with bands like girs of glass, victimblamed and rev3rent
@qas1409 I was born in 96 too, Big up to you ! 🤜🔥🤛
@@mike_tkgchsOld? The first time I seen Cannibal Corpse, Chris Barns was still doing vocals.
@@JM-hf9tv hahaha ok i was a bit later than that - so, as an "old timer" how did you live the myspace deathcore era or in general the various contaminations that death metal went through?
@@mike_tkgchs Honestly Job for a Cowboy was the first Deathcore band I heard. I personally loved and embraced it. But I wasn't/am not a purest. I enjoy hearing all sorts of new sounds. One of my favorite spinoffs at the time is deathgrind. Cattle Decapitation. Found them around 1998. Of late I have been enjoying Bloodywood.
I'm just a Metal head.
Thanks for the great video! I was in Antagony and later went on to play in All Shall Perish. Back then, we didn’t really have the words to describe what we were creating-it was just a fusion of influences that felt natural to us. It’s always fascinating to see how deathcore evolved over the years and became its own distinct genre. The journey from those early experimental days to where it stands now is truly something else.
Duuuuuude!! Awaken the Dreamers is still on daily rotation for me. Thanks for creating something amazing and in my opinion timeless.
NGL this channel got me into Deathcore. Now i cant drive 1 minute without doing vocals in my car. Thank you xTheYan
That’s so awesome man !! I’m glad I could introduce you to it 🤙🏻
Well you definitely got a lot of material to discover 😂 🤘🏿
You might need the bands that were in this video. I’ve gathered them all.

A true hero. About to relive my childhood and prolly cry a lil bit. Preciatcha brada.
I’m 40 this year. Growing up with grunge, into nu-metal, and then straight into early deathcore, and being in Australia so tapping into a lot of the deathcore happening here like I Killed The Prom Queen, The Red Shore, Boris The Blade, Make The Suffer, Thy Art, man honestly it was such a time to be alive. Didn’t even know it was happening. It was just, there. I dunno if it dropped off, or it just evolved, and now as time proves, we get nostalgic and everything old is cool again and revives. Like nu-metal. And now I think deathcore is evolving with slam now coming along, bigger breakdowns, heavier riffs, heavier vocals. We will see where that goes.
I'm also an aussie and man our deathcore is peak epic
I was going to mention to him to check The Red Shore, they deserved a mention.
Also on the note of the smaller bands you mentioned; Signal The Firing Squad and Tomb Of Doom also
My 40th was Jan 1st. Us 85 kids are getting oooold
Just about to turn 41 and living in QLD, your story pretty much mirrors my own.
The first time I heard the Doom EP I was sucked in, I was living on MySpace trying to find out what other bands were digging their way out.
Winds of Plague were a game changer for me, I killed the Prom Queen, Parkway Drive, Norma Jean, Bring me the Horizon, Chelsea Grin, and like you Thy Art nailed it for me, it's been an amazing time and I'm still riding the wave.
New School Deathcore, Old School Deathcore, it's all good to me just keep the sound alive.
I wouldn’t say that slam has heavier vocals than deathcore. Or as you say, “deatchcore”
My first deathcore bands were Despised Icon and All Shall Perish around 2003 or so. Crazy that it's been almost 22 years since then.
Yep it’s been a while haha
All Shall Perish is still amazing to this day
All shall perish was awesome never understood the hype behind di couldn't stand them
I had a dvd sampler with All Shall Perish’s Deconstruction music video around that same time.
Cow bells get me hyped now everytime makes me think of wage slaves!
for people curious about the transition from Hardcore to Deathcore, I'd suggest the following bands: Eternal Suffering, Embodiment, Crawlspace, Undying, Prayer For Cleansing
This is really well done! You have made a lot of quality videos on the history of Deathcore. Any chance you will be doing one exclusively on ANTAGONY in the future?
What an amazing video. The MySpace age of bands was my favourite as well, so many happy memories of finding new bands.
This video really brought me back 🤘 superb skills
Started going to deathcore shows in 2006 when I was 11. I will never grow out of my love for deathcore and all associated bands. The energy in the scene when it was new, it felt like there was electricity in the air. Great music, great scene
well said!
Deathcore started it all for me. My friend and I started a deathcore band in 2009 by the name of Every Hand Betrayed and in 2012 we released an album titled “Kingless” the goal was to write the heaviest breakdowns ever 😂. Our shows were wild. Miss it dearly!
Listening to y'all now. Great sound production brother!
@ holy shit man thank you so much! 🫡
@@gabec9897 check out this album: Labyrinthe - Relentless Misery
why you broke up?
@@mixail201211 left the band after we dropped that album for a very stupid reason at the time. To this day it’s one of my biggest regrets lol. The band played shows until 2016 I think. Everyone just kind of stopped I guess. Sad, the band had some potential too.
Great video man. It was such a privilege to grow up in this era. I am 33 years old and was alive and found all these bands the same way you did it sounds like through my space and going to shows. Long live MySpace deathcore! It is really cool to see the younger generation bringing it back.
Despised icon is the Definition of deathcore! I mean come on nobody combines hardcore and deathcore so perfect. An Alex Grind is so fast it's crazy as hell
Facts
Dude I totally agree! Thy art is Murder’s Infinite Death EP was the best thing they ever did, sooo tasty. Afterwards they seemed to have less unique and colorful personality or something. I still come back to that EP regularly and it always pumps me up!!
Great Video, Thanks
Infinite Death and Hate both slap soooo hard
Infinite Death is only the best deathcore ep if you fell in the Hololive rabbit hole and wanted something to vent what you just saw. Other than that, JFAC's Doom EP is miles better.
@@countdabulous710Replace Infinite Death with The Adversary and I'll instantly agree with you.
Much respect for even the slightest mention of Total Deathcore. As someone who was heavily involved in that era of music promotion from 2014-2018 with Chugcore, I think it would be dope to get a video like this that showcased the popularity of downtempo. Bands like Immoralist, Black Tongue, Sworn In, Villains, Demolisher, just that general realm had such a big impact in deathcore and metalcore back in those days, even the bands you covered in your video like Slaughter to Prevail, King Conquer, etc. Thinking about it to this day, I miss doing music promotion. Keep up the great content, you got a new subscriber. 🤘
So happy with the Angelmaker shoutout. Probably the best live deathcore band I've seen. To me there's just something about the dual vocalists(triple?)
Incredible content dude!!! You were spot on about the Myspace era Deathcore, please keep making videos like this! \m/
Thank you !!
The first death core style band i ever listened to was a black rose burial wayy back in 2001 in the 5th grade! It blew my mind I'm so glad found it. Deathcore, hxc, grindcore, and just about every other core has gotten me through the hardest times of my life, and I will forever be thankful to this specific music scene!
Love your channel dude, just found you last week. Been jamming deathcore since i was 11, now 31
Thanks man !! Appreciate the support
You should check out Embodyment - Embrace The Eternal
It’s from 1998, and for my money, it’s the first deathcore album
Was looking for this…. 🫡
There should be more channels that talk about this, great video, not only informative for those who are getting into the genre but also emotional for those of us who discovered those bands when they were taking their first steps, excellent, I love your channel, long live deathcore and long live the metal 👊🔥
Amazing work again.
Thank you so much.
I missed most of the myspace era, you bring it back to life in such a beautiful way with your videos.
Pure gold.
Thank you !!!
i wasnt old enough for the rise and fall of deathcore but i get a sense of nostalgia from a lot of the myspace bands. ur videos help a lot for the history of all things metal, good shit🔥
Music has never been more accessible now with streaming services but man... The satisfaction you'd get from finding bands through your favourite artists' top 8 or friends profile songs has never been replaced by modern social media.
I vividly remember buying carnifex and suicide silence EPs on iTunes after finding them on MySpace, burning them to CD roms for my hifi and that's where my deathcore fandom began.
Dude your passion and excitement is infectious ❤❤
I'm pretty much new in metalcore deathcore and etc scene it's only been 8 years since I've started listening to it and back then I used to think where there's scream and heavy instrument play in music are straight up metal music which is nuts until it started to explore the depths of the entire scene, and thank you soo much for such informative video about deathcore I've learned a lot about it. And there's no doubt mitch is still the face of the deathcore scene cause to me personally i came to deathcore because of their "Unanswered" music video even though I had zero knowledge about deathcore scene but his band gave me all i wanted at that time from heavy breakdowns to crazy squeals...it was just all i needed. Rest in peace mitch lucker.
MOM GET THE CAMERA XTHEYAN JUST DROPPED A NEW BANGER
🔥🔥🔥
Seeing those old band MySpace pages really brings me back. Great video bro, really enjoyed this one. 2007-2011 truly was a special time with great memories.
Dude this was SO nostalgic and I appreciate you even having thought to make this video! It never occurred to me just how influential MySpace was in my discovery of Deathcore. Before then, it was just radio and random CDs from the Senior kids! Also... proud to report: Spotify told me I was in the top 1% listeners of And Hell Followed With, listeners last year lol. Deathcore will definitely remain near and dear to my love for music. Thanks again for this video!
I live about 30 minutes away from where Mitch had his accident. I still remember the day it happened. Such a bummer. Metal for life 🤘
You have an interesting perspective and I think it's valid. My own point of view was that deathcore arose during a period when Victory Records, Relapse, Candlelight, and other labels were issuing/re-issuing a lot of new (and old, classic) metal/hardcore albums, which really resonated with the generation of the early two-thousands. That same generation formed bands, calling themselves everything from grindcore to death metal to hardcore to deathcore. At the end of the day, almost all of them just played a form of post-hardcore, which is what I think deathcore essentially is. Just my two cents.
Dude, you've become a big discovery for me and have given new life to the world of metalcore and deathcore and You just radiate goodness and positivity.
P.S.- Curseeater awesome project, keep up the good work.
Man I Turned 18 in 2005, I still remember when this went wild out of nowhere, job for a cowboy and suicide silence hit the scene so hard. It was just so new and fresh and just fucking brutal and fun. It was really a new time for metal that's for sure, I remember the metal divide that started as well, the normal and death metal scene went nuts lol. I love all metal so it was wild to witness.
The pits at the shows were nuts too, I remember a Parkway drive show with Suicide Silence and The Acacia Strain, and I was very lucky to see Mitch live, It was absolutely nuts, was seriously such a fun time back then. Amazing to look back on, thanks for the video!.
Damn this brought me back to being a teenager spending hours on MySpace and RUclips finding new bands.
That's cool man, advocating the possibility of having multiple styles, eras and whatnot together instead of having arguments over what is best. Good on you. Thanks for running this very wholesome channel.
Awesome video yet again Yan. Thanks! 🤘
You still need to make a video about Cattle Decapitation. They had some influence on most of these bands!
Love your videos man, we have very similar taste in music. I was in a band when I was in highschool in those myspace days and right now I'm working on starting a band after an almost 15 year hiatus from making music! All it took was running into an old friend and going to a local hardcore show with him like old times!!!
thanks man ! And that's awesome
I appreciated this video. All the og bands u mentioned are what got me started 2004 to 2009 was the golden area of metal and it's ashame it's gone
I grew up in the MySpace era and my first favorites really shaped how I write riffs. From writing music since 2013, I noticed the decline was when the songwriting became homogenous. I can almost pinpoint 4 exact albums that explain the entirety of deathcore as it happened, and it will make sense when you read them. These are albums that became “the thing to be doing” and new bands at the time only did that exactly.
Infant Annihilator: TPLOP
Periphery: PIII
Traitors: The Hate Campaign
Lorna Shore: AIRTN
I hope what I said makes sense, but everything changed when these became the big thing
Sorry for the second comment but bro you hit a nerve with the breakdown compilations. Me and buddy used to just sit and smoke flower and vibe to the most brutal shit I’ve ever heard. So nice. Thanks for that, it’s time to revisit.
i really love seeing how deathcore is now being re evaluated and appreciated. i loved that era and this video brought me such a nostalgia. thank you thank you thank you
Great video! I got into deathcore really late. Like 2021 with the bands you mentioned-Lorna Shore, Angelmaker, and Infant Annihilator. And I never understood the hate for it. But you explained it well how different the scenes were from death metal.
The reddit deathcore and other metal/hardcore communities have been great. I started with the new and was introduced to the old great albums such as the cleansing and pray for plagues.
Every show has been amazing. I'm excited for new things this year like more Angelmaker, Infant Annihilator, and whatever Alex Teyen has in the works too.
Thanks for the video, learned a lot good stuff!
Vincent of The Acacia Strain sighting at 15:03! My favorite band of the scene and they're still killing it.
Glad that i lived the begining era of deathcore 😮💨 you just portrayed the playlist of my life 🗿
What an era
Nailed it. Everything. Love your vids and podcasts. Keep it up ❤ So nostalgic and on-point. Love it.
Thank you 🙏🏻
What an Awesome video, pure nostalgia
I was born in 89 and graduated in 2007 and I was very fortunate to be around the scene while it was growing.
Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, All Shall Perish and so many other amazing bands have had such a positive impact on my life through the years
Man.. these times were some of the best and worst for me but i wouldn't change a thing. Deathcore and metal as a whole is what helped shape me into the man and musician i am today. I can't imagine a life without it nor do i want to. 🖤🖤 Keep it heavy my friends.
Stay pissed. 🤘🤘
I love the MySpace death core stuff, but I can’t lie modern death core can be very innovative
Awesome video man!!! I also really miss the rawness and creativity of the MySpace era..it was such a cool time to be alive in!! Seeing bands like the red shore and the bands they toured with will forever be in my memories. I wish it felt the same these days but it is what it is haha
thanks man ! Yes.. What an era!
Awesome vid! You bringing back the nostalgia of my high school days earned my Like/Subscribe! I remember listening to almost ALL the bands you listed regardless of whichever type lol. I didn't realize until you mentioned it that I caught a few of them right when they came out! Like JFAC and Suicide Silence. I remember using Limewire to get the Doom EP and The Cleansing =D! Also I love Waking The Cadaver too! (As well as IWrestledABearOnce, Whitechapel, Veil of Maya, Carnifex, Annotations of An Autopsy, and many others!)
- Btw, a few I was surprised I didn't hear were: A Different Breed Of Killer, Necrophagist, Nile, and Through The Eyes Of The Dead
Hey thanks I’m glad you enjoyed ! And yes all those bands are legendary but it’s almost impossible to mention every single one of them in one video loll
@xtheyan yeah, I realized that after I commented lol. I started thinking of so many different bands I know/have heard and was like well, yeah that's way too many bands, he'd have a whole separate video to include all that. But! I will say I miss MySpace! I remember I had such a badass page, and a killer ass playlist that would start as soon as someone visited my page! I remember having to copy/paste a bunch of shit in the desceiption part to add all the cool shit but it was awesome. I never got into FB after MySpace died. I was like that's the end of Social Media for me lol. So no Twitter, Instagram, none of that shit. Just this YT acc is my only social stuff lol.
Man its so awesome to hear you talk about this. I really hope younger generations keep it alive. I always play this music for my 4yr old and 4 month old. Dont think they will ever appreciate it as much as our generation that lived it. But there is always hope lol
Great content dude! Historical. Love the enthusiasm.
Thank you !!
I don't know if it's a coincidence but I've slowly forgotten listening to deathcore for a year or two and started listening to a lot of hiphop, and I'm getting back into listening to my favorite bands just recently and this video just dropped
Bro, I went through the exact same thing. That was several years ago, though.
Before the Deathcore era, I was not into heavy music at all. I came from pop punk. But I got heavily into Deathcore when it came out and was around but eventually, it was a gateway for me to get into other Metal sub genres like Death Metal, Thrash Metal, etc. but Deathcore will always have a special place in my heart ❤️
I've watched SEVERAL of your videos last night and tonight and I greatly enjoy them and learning more about my favorite bands. Could you please do one on Cattle Decapitation and or Caliban my top favorite metalcore band. Thank you for the great content. Look forward to seeing more.
DJ: MetalFatigue 🤘😈🤘
I love that you called it wholesome. It's funny from an outsider's perspective, but it's also very true in a way to those who know.
Hey Yan, I appreciate your channel and what you do. Keep up the good work
thank you so much ! Love doing it
I 100% agree that Infinite Death is TAIM's best work. And yes I feel like I've been discovering a new mind blowing deathcore band every week or so lately. It's been a while since that's happened.
Thank you for this video sir! 🤘🫶
Dude, really good looks on these new Deathcore bands! They are all bangers!! You have a new subscriber!
Roasting on the gatekeepers never gets old lmao. Loved this video! I remember getting into deathcore around 2009, 2010 ish. Still my favorite genre today. Seeing Whitechapel for a 6th time in April to
Video so good, brings a tears to my eyes.
👏👏💎🤧👏👏
another great video man!
thank you!
I feel so lucky to have been able to have the early deathcore experience and also never get out of that phase ❤
Incredible, comprehensive video. Thank you.
Great video, I would like to watch more videos like this kind of topics. Also you can explore all the subgenres of deathcore. ❤
thank you ! Yeah I'll do more stuff like this for sure
Grew up in the MySpace era. Got out of it around 2011, took time off doing life, now we’re back and man the whole heavy music scene has been awesome the last couple years. Been to more shows in the last 3 years than anytime in my late teens and 20s let’s goooo
Born in 89, and Deathcore is still going and doing fine, considering it’s Deathcore, and most people hate that. Not to mention a lot of bands that fall in to the genre of Deathcore completely reject it, like Acacia Strain, Shadow of Intent, etc.
I love your videos you are the best ❤
Thank you !!
Man, as a burgeoning modern-day style deathcore band (like Lorna Shore or Shadow of Intent), I only have good memories of the MySpace days! Sadly, i wasn't as heavy back in the scene as I am now, but...heartfelt thanks to your content! Much love!
I got into deathcore by my Dad giving me his old Suicide Silence jerseys then i got heavily into Suicide Silence then that lead me into discovering the myspace era of deathcore, later on now Deathcore is one of my alltime favorite genres and SS is still one of my favorite bands
used to freaking love And Hell Followed With, and King Conquer, totally forgot those guys existed! (KQ that is)
wicked vid man.
The new deathcore stuff like Lorna Shore and the latest Carnifex record have taken it to new heights that I never thought I would hear
As someone who didn’t grow up in old Deathcore but instead with newer Deathcore I can respect the bands that basically invented it I definitely have to check some of them out
I recently started working on a project called DEATHCORE™ that will feature every Deathcore trope (movie quotes, pig squeals, gang vocals, 808s, etc...), and it got me thinking about what killed Deathcore. IMO, it was bands deciding to change their sound. Suicide Silence's The Cleansing set the standard, and they changed their sound after that album. Almost no Death Metal riffs or drum grooves in their following albums. Same with All Shall Perish. They had 2 awesome Deathcore records and then took 99% of all the Death Metal influence out of their music with Awaken The Dreamers (amazing album, just not Deathcore). Elysia, The Faceless, JFAC... I think you get where I'm going haha. The biggest OG Deathcore bands kinda killed the genre, which forced the industry to adapt and only a few Deathcore bands were able to survive with morale being so low.. I'm just glad people are recognizing how special Deathcore is. It was never supposed to be a trend, but it got forced into being one.
I'm from Brazil and the scene here was just like you described but with one or two years of delay. After MySpace, we went to Orkut for a few years before Facebook, but I don't think it made any difference.
It was curious how the scene simply vanished so abruptly. A lot of youngster moved to trap. Today I see it as a natural hiatus necessary for the genre to mature, it was very sarurated.
Metalcore is evolving and modernizing too, with bands like Bad Omens, Falling in Reverse, Electric Callboy, We butter the bread with butter...
If you want to checkout some Brazilian deathcore in portuguese take a look at Project46, John Wayne and Pray for Mercy. Unfortunately, Pray for Mercy ended after one of the vocalists was killed with a knife by his own father
Grew up in this era. I had a myspace account with Braille as my profile song, custom template, top friends, the whole nine. This was also an era of having your flip phone ringtone or ringback tone be some popular deathcore song (my family hated that). Loved deathcore up until I strictly got into hardcore in the late 2000s and early 2010s where I remain now. It's funny bc now a lot of kids in my local hc scene are obsessed with this era of music that they weren't even barely alive for and it's starting to make a comeback. Looking back, many parts of it were pretty cringe, like the fashion etc. I still fw some of the greats of that era, Winds of Plague, ABRB, Despised Icon, Chelsea Grin, Suffokate, Suicide Silence, etc. Modern deathcore isn't really my cup of tea but I do admire where the genre started.
Deathcore is actually such a huge subgenre it's crazy. Most bands I listen today haven't been mentioned in this video. Stuff like Aversions Crown, The Acacia Strain (who do it since 2001), Humanity's Last Breath, Bodysnatcher, Cabal, it's all recommended good shit and sound very different from each other
Great Video, never was into old school Deathcore, maybe I should check it out
Thanks ! And yeah it’s definitely worth exploring
Huge fan of ur content Man. Thanks for this… I grew up before computers, so MySpace wasn’t a thing yet. We would get into the bands rehearsal space. If we brought a case of beer, bottle of Jack, and a few joints they would welcome you in with open arms. Bands like Nasty Savage, Savatage, Morbid ANGEL, Deicide, Obituary, malevolent creation, and the list goes on and on. The Brass Mug bar in Tampa would have em play all the time. It was prettty insane. Great time to grew up. When death core hit I didn’t know it was that much different than anything I’ve been into for ever, just with the killer vocals and break downs. Which I loved. Dispised icon was and is still my go to to this day. And when Chapel dropped father of lies I knew it was here to stay. Thankfully. Now, 20 some years later it’s better than ever in my opinion. I went to the Lorna shore show here in st. Pete last year and they crushed. Shadow of intent crushed too. Good to see you going deep into this type of music. 🤘
Hey thank you so much !! I'm glad you enjoyed and thanks for sharing your story!
Man that was a crazy trip down memory lane. Entombment of a machine was my myspace song for so long! Doom EP blew me away. I haven't heard of any of the "underground" bands mentioned here but all the others were just stacked on my ipod nano 😂😂😂 I must have had the same journey as everyone else bc I also fell off after mitches passing. I think metalcore blowing up the way it did really contributed to that era as well. Will Ramos brought me back and now we have Disembodied Tyrant 😮😮😮
Many thanks for your work!!!🙏 🙏🙏 Great video!🔥👍 I completely agree with you on some issues. P.S.: The album Thy Art Is Murder - "Infinite Death" - is still one of the best works in the world of deathcore today🤘🤘🤘
Love this video, your love for the genre and passion/nostalgia for the era shine through and mimic my own feelings so closely. Born 1990 so I was in my teens during the myspace era, hearing JFAC and suicide silence through their pages was such a cool experience. And I absolutely miss that "scene" feel where every band just seemed to tour and you could see a deathcore band and a pop punk band on the same line up. It just felt like we had found our place, and as someone who always felt like an outsider because of their music taste it was so cathartic. Outside of a few genre elitists there was so much acceptance, which I feel is lost in the modern scene, you'd never get ADTR and SS on a line up these days. Also I earned a bunch of cool guy points in your underground deathcore section knowing the majority of the bands and seeing a couple live. I do agree with the death/stagnation of the genre around 2012 but that might be personal bias as i fell out of love with the genre as a whole around this time but i do think that deathcore in 2025 (and last year as well) has made a massive comeback, the myspace revival that we had is SO welcome I miss the raw sound and the no bells and whistles approach to the genre so hearing bands like psychoframe and girl of glass doing what got me into the genre is amazing, but i also love how the genre has diversified over time. I genuinely believe deathcore is the most adaptable and diverse genre in metal. You can add so many prefixes and suffixes, while still existing in the genre, its insanely adaptable. And i fuckin love it, and for what its worth i think it makes the genre what it is. the origins are still there and theyre valid as fuck and these revival bands are doing amazing work but i think some of the best modern deathcore has other genres fused in. I cant lie my re-introducton to deathcore was a friend sending me to the hellfire by lorna shore and while the breakdown and the ridiculous vocals got my attention the chorus was what got me going back, their use of melody and hooks captivated me. And I think pain remains is one of the best albums I've ever listened to because of that use of melody, moreso than how heavy it might be and over the vocals. in the same vein i would call symphony of a dying star by mental cruelty one of the best deathcore songs of the decade, it is extremely black metal influenced, yet it scratches all my deathcore itches. but its a masterpiece heavy, melodic, crazy breakdown, solo, its taking all the influences and slapping it into a deathcore song, which again shows the versatility of the genre. but doing so in such a satisfying way. IDK man, sorry this took me longer to type than i watched the video. All im saying is this shit was so fuckin hard when it came out. and its been such a defining genre to my life. I dont think anything can beat those moments when we heard entombment of a machine, or wage slaves, or devirgination studies for the first time, but you have to give respect to the stuff coming out in current year for taking those basics and adding stuff. The blackened mental cruelty, the symphonic lorna shore, the beatdown of orphan, the melody in left to suffers latest release, or the new paleface album, same goes for whitechapels the valley or kin, but then if you need some more modern deathcore that doesnt fuck with other genres youve got crown magnetar or fit for an autopsy that just give you what you used to get with a more polished sound. If you come to deathcore with an open mind in 2025 youve got one of the most amazing and diverse genres you can ever listen to.
Thank you for your comment !! It’s crazy to think about how lucky we are to be a part of it
Maaaaan. I was in my early 20s during the MySpace deathcore days. Such a good time. Back when JFAC was doing small tours in the Midwest back in like 2009 I let the dudes crash at my place and it’s one of the best memories I have. We all got drunk and played street fighter. Plus I got some merch out of the hospitality. 😂
Thanks for this video. It brought back a lot of good memories. 🫶🏻
Sounds like a good time haha
Been listening to deathcore for 20 years now and I dont think I'll ever stop. Been in the scene since suicide silence used to play shows at the showcase
Well, the fact that extreme metal of any type becoming as popular as Lorna Shore and Slaughter to Prevail is completely mind blowing to me. I never thought I’d see the day.
right on point. it all started for me with bmth, carnifex, despised icon and because I'm from Australia, early parkway drive, the red shore, thy art is murder infinate death EP, carpathian, I killed the prom queen (peep my username I have had since i was 16 lol.
I personally took a hiatus from the scene as, as i hit my late teens/early 20s is when Dubstep came about and that led me down a road of going to raves and getting into djing (I always felt dubstep just sounded like a continuous breakdown which i feel led me into that world).
love the videos mate, keep 'em comen.
It's gonna sound as cliche as cliche gets, but if it wasn't for Suicide Silence's 'The Cleansing' album, my music taste would NOT have evolved into what it is today. Bought a copy of it at a used music/movie/game store in middle school, and it has carried on to almost 20 years of listening to deathcore and metalcore. The Myspace era was a great place to start and I'm so glad that I didn't entirely miss out on it
One deathcore band I feel like you’ll enjoy looking into is Crucifiction, also I really love your content, it got me looking into the old school deathcore genre in the first place!🤘
oh yeah ! We had their vocalist on our podcast, great band!
Another amazing video! Never stop 🔥
Awesome video. The wave of nostalgia hit me hard.
7:47 audacity and sound forge, true relics of its time
Myspace deathcore kid here... This took me wayyyy back. Also, special shout-out to WCWBT, IWABO, and Alesana (the underrated legends).
I feel like a BIG part of it is that after Mitch died it just didn't feel the same. Will Ramos is kinda the Mitch Lucker of this generation.
I ran the underground metal and death core scene in NYC along with David Barren and 2Legit promotion. I ran Euphonic Sounds bookings
This was a unexpectedly awesome walk down memory lane
My favorite video so far. Great work Yan.
Thank you brother !
