- The Tamiya Fast Attack Vehicle (FAV) is a really cool looking RC and I don’t expect much out of it performance wise but in the looks category it is great! I get it all built in this video and go over some of the small things I ran into along the build. Cutting out the decals/sticker was a funny one, not a problem I have run into previously on any other kits. I turned out looking really cool and I will get it out for a run soon.
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

Another awesome job mate man I wish I had the storage space inside to start kits as shelf queens so many I'd love to build and some different themes or even some movie replicas Another great build take care mate 👊
Thank you Mark! You do need space because when you start they multiply quickly! LOL!! I am glad you enjoyed it buddy and have a great week!
Cool Addam these are great really fun driver I have the Hornet evo on pre order can't wait to try that
It is such a cool looking buggy! I know it is not going to drive as well as the BHM Wild one does but I think I will have more fun watching it do slower up close passes then sprinting around all over the place. Once the grass dries out I am hoping to get it out for a run!
Such a cool, cool buggy, Addam! As always you did a great job on the build and detailing. I had a good chuckle at you explaining how you felt drunk cutting out the body decals 😅 I know exactly what you mean! Great tip about the o rings on the front suspension struts, I think I did something like that on my Lunchbox. Loved the photos at the end, too. Take care pal and have a great week ahead!
Thanks Mark! It is a really cool and unique buggy! Those decals really make you feel like you have the drunk goggles on for the first couple! After a few you get used to it but man those first few were a trick! The o-rings really help keep the front shocks from clacking so loudly and it is a free upgrade so you can't argue with that LOL! I am glad you enjoyed it and thanks as always for checking it out, take care my friend!
I'm so pumped to see some many tubers on the FAV train. My first and all time favorite kit. I got it for Christmas from my dad. One of the few good memories of that man but I guess he made the effort.
I picked up the 2011 the moment it came out and it sits proudly front and center on my shelves.
I hand painted mine and used the decals on the wild willy.
It is a really cool looking kit and I am sure you really had a great time with it as a kid. I mean I am having some serious GI Joe flashbacks with mine now! LOL! I am glad it brings back fond memories of your dad, I know the rough parts can stand out more than the pleasant ones sometimes! It is a looker of a buggy and I know once I drive it that it will be all smiles! The Wild Willy would look cool with these decals on it! I contemplated trying to paint them on but once I stuck the first one on it I realized how goo they really do imitating the painted ones!
@AddamsPlayground My W Willy is sporting the fav stickers and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Great work, Addam. I was convinced that you airbrushed the camouflage. You have achieved the perfect balance of a great "runner" with a great looking model. Thanks again for all of your efforts!!
Thanks! the decals are very good at looking like airbrushed camo on it! It is kind of crazy this design is 40 years old not and it still looks great great. I think it will be a bit bouncy but not too worried about it as I think the slow drive-by passes with it will be cooler than just trying rip it around full send. Who knows though, once I get it out it may be full throttle like many others LOL!!!
What an awesome buggy! Can't wait until we get 'em up in Canada. Great video, Addam. You just saved me a ton of guess-work. 😂
Thanks Fil! It looks super cool and some real GI Joe vibes to it. You are going to giggle when you go to cut out the decals, it is like having drunk goggles trying to do the first one or two of them. I started with cutting the sharp edges of them all and then went back and cut the blurry sections. After one or two you get the feel for it but those first couple feel so wrong!!!
Awesome car. It's always great to see how they designed these early RCs. So many little details like on the display models.
They were leaning heavily on their model car experience in the beginning for sure! I have the XR311 to build and that one is much more like a plastic model, probably the reason I have not built it yet, I am a bit intimidated by it still! LOL! I am sure it will be fine, just have to get it started at some point! Take care Dirk!
Woulda gone crazy for this as a kid. Nice video Addam!
Right? Some real GI Joe dreams come true! Now I need a HISS tank to track and destroy! LOL!!
I always liked the look of this buggy. To me it’s a blend of a wild one and a hornet. I would’ve painted it uniform flat military green with the shark mouths on the side and give it raw aluminum wheels. 👌🏻 Great work as always. 👍🏻
I do prefer the shark mouth kit. I am hoping it may happen next year, guess it depends on the sales of this one I assume. I really wanted to go 100% box art with it but soon realized the more I looked at it the less it was going to be possible! Close enough for sure and fingers crossed on the shark mouth version next year!
Well executed, the camo looks painted 😮 And not mentioning the superb driver 👍 Congrats, well done, Addam 👏🤝
Thank you! Those decals really do make the camo airbrushed on there! I was pretty impressed with that. Cutting them out was funny as the first couple were like wearing drunk goggles! I enjoyed painting the driver and I am glad it turned out nice.
Looks so cool...I always thought that was paint and not decals! One of the reasons why I never got one. And the suspension of course. They perform just like a grasshopper. I was a huge GI Joe fan, I had all the cool original off-road vehicles...the good old days Addam. Lots of great memories.
On the original is was all paint so yeah a bit more effort to getting it to look good. These decals work very well at mimicking the airbrushed on look of the camo. Although the original had the tan roll cage and side bars so there is a little compromise going on. I assume they went to the black for strength and durability purposes. I have accepted the black parts now and love it. I do need something from Cobra to chase with it, maybe on of those cheap Ripsaw looking tanks painted in black and red to resemble their cool wedge-shaped tanks. That way it would have something to chase! Things were much simpler sitting in the dirt playing with GI Joes back then!
@@AddamsPlayground Remember the HISS Tank? 😂
@@eekrc yup! Kind of my thought with the ripsaw tank. Of course it wouldn't be as tall but would be close enough with some help!
Love the fast attack too I've still to find the gun for mine 🙈 nice to see one added to your fleet 👌🏽
It is a cool and unique buggy. I have some serious GI Joe flashback when driving it! It is more a "run around dodging the enemy" type of buggy which is fun in itself!
Cool build. Nice looking RC and great tips.
Thanks! It is a super cool and very scale little buggy! Cutting out the decals was funny, felt like I had the drunk goggles on trying to see where to cut!
Hey Addam, the FAV driver figure looks amazing 😊😊. The chassis looks like it’s a cross between a bath tub chassis and the ORV chassis 😊😊great hints and tips my friend. Best wishes to you and the family 😉😎🖐️
Thanks John! I enjoyed painting the driver in this one. I was a little nervous it was going to turn into a mess but it worked out well! nothing but a bunch of little squiggly lines and some time! Those decals were a trip to cut out, it was like wearing drunk goggles for the first few and then I got used to them but blurry decals are tricky! LOL! It is a unique chassis for sure, nothing else is quite like it. Hopefully the hints help out others or at least let them know we all struggle here and there on builds! Take care my fiend and have a wonderful weekend!
I had a thought...and it smelled funny...you could get another one of those micro 'knock-offs' from your last video, paint it in camo and strap a gun on it. Then attach it to the FAV like it is a 1/5 RC remote attack vehicle! It would be cool to roll up, and launch the micro RC off the FAV. Then again, my 'good ideas' are usually stupid ideas. 😋
LOL! I had to pause and laugh off the "and it smelled funny" part for a moment! LOL!
Not a stupid idea at all, a funny one but certainly not a stupid one! I would have to trim the wing off but I could see that being a fun thing to try! I will put it on the to-do list somewhere around #138 which is not bad at all considering the list is somewhere in the thousands at this point! LOL!
Another great build. FAV is such a unique one. Classic Tamiya
Very much so! Definitely a more model like look to it but it should still be a fun one to get out and drive. Gonna be bouncy but it will still look great out there! GI Joe dreams come true! LOL!!
It came out real nice! the stickers do look good almost looked airbrushed. These buggies run and handle great, the rear tires are not the best but if you put hornet ones on they really dig in!
I was very surprised with how cool the stickers look on there! Like you said, they look like you airbrushed the camo on it. I know the BHM Wild One ran really well, this one feels like it is going to be a bit more bouncy for sure but I am not even worried about it. I think it is going to look cooler doing slower drive-by passes than blasting around full speed anyway!
This things awesome Addam . Man that thing looks fun! Love the full size looking dude in the drivers seat! They should send a nip of whisky to justify the eye games when cutting out the decals!🤪 it looks amazing and looks super fun to run!
Take care and God bless you and yours man! 👋💯😎👍🏻
It is a really neat and realistic buggy! The driver really does make it look cool and those decals really look like airbrushed paint on there. It felt like I was wearing drunk goggles when cutting them out, the first two were rough but then you kind of get the hang of it. It definitely goes against the normal way of cutting them out! I will get the run video out soon, I have a few others lined up before it but it is coming! Take care Robby and have a wonderful week my friend!
Cool looking car never really had the FAV chassis on my radar but I think now I changed my mind
It is a cool kit and one that does not get talked about a ton but is pretty cool. The trailing arm front and rear suspension works really well. The BHM Wild One is on the same chassis and it runs great! It turned out looking pretty cool and I look forward to driving it.
Great Build Addam it looks great
Thanks Will, it is a really cool and scale looking little buggy! The stickers did a great job making it look like real painted camo!
Nice detailed work, on the camouflage. Looks great 👍🏻
The decals they give you really make it look good, almost like an airbrushed paint job! I hope to get it out for a run once the grass finishes drying up.
That is awesome looking. As for the box art who cares. Its your buggy make it the way you want.So your way is the right way. And that one if i built it it would never see dirt. Id run it on my carpet to say it ran then to the shelf it be going. Love your builds and videos Addam.
Thanks! It turned out really nice and I wanted to get that cool look from the box onto the car but not all of it was possible. The original one had the cage and nerf bars molded in the tan color. I am not sure why they changed it unless it was due to the tan being too fragile. On the other hand the original you had to paint all the camo by hand so i will take the trade for the great decals it came with! LOL!
I will get it out and get it dirty but it will be probably be a slower and more deliberate run, kind of a GI Joe on a mission type thing! Who knows it may run really well and I send it full speed! Thanks for the comment and I am glad you are enjoying the videos! take care!
Great work as always Addam. Not one I have ever considered but the finished model looks fab 🙌🏻
It i a very cool scale RC and it was a fun one to do. The decals look great and I did enjoy painting up the driver guy, it turned out much more fun than I expected. I am sure it will scoot around pretty well but I thinking more slow and deliberate driving will be fun with this one. GI Joe on a mission type stuff! LOL!
Great build Addam! Always loved the FAV.
Thanks Keith! It is a really neat one and definitely takes you back to the GI Joes days of being a kid!!!
Another nice rig for the collection. The older I get. The cooler this looks. It will be fun. May need a hornet tire to get around the track a bit better
I agree, not one I really desperately wanted as a kid but now it is super cool. It takes me back to my GI Joe days as a kid! I think the tires may do ok, they have more tread on them than it appears and seem soft enough to hook up. it is going to be a pretty bouncy thing overall maybe not getting up to full speed will be a good thing LOL!
Great buggies they handle real good for the time this one was made!
Yes, for the time this was a cutting edge thing and I sure made a kid the talk of the town! I will still have a great time with it and it definitely takes me back to the GI Joe as a kid!!
It looks very nice in the pictures.
Thanks! It is a cool looking buggy! Very GI Joe!
Great job Addam!
Interesting to see this chassis go together.....its not one I've ever built before.
I could see many component design features from the hornet/grasshopper,and even aspects from the original ORV chassis there.....which i guess makes sense bearing in mind the timeline of this vehicle.
Now,go get those Cobra agents buddy!😂
👍 👍
It is a cool and unique chassis, very old school for sure but works well. I can see where things were borrowed between kits for sure! It turned out looking really cool and really does have those GI Joe vibes to it! I need to get something like one of the cheaper Ripsaw looking tanks and paint it black and red with a big Cobra emblem on it. Then it will have a proper vehicle to chase down!
that’s what that box i got spare with the wild one was for ! 😂
that would go well with the arrma fireteam . like a mini hit squad .
cannot remember these from my yoof. well seeing them .
thanks for the info 😊👍
Yeah for the Wild One they went with the Lexan drive and that whole thing covers up where that original box went. Since there is no other way to attach it besides the rubber band hold down I think they opted to delete it on the WO and it was a good idea! I am hoping the little bit of E6000 glue hold mine on and it doesn't pop off mid run! I just really did not want a rubber band showing on it at all! This alongside the Fireteam would be like Captain America before and after the enhancements made to him! LOL! Lean and small and then beefy and large!!! This was not high on the list of kits I wanted as a kid, not fast or cool enough looking for me at the time but it is truly super cool now! I do like how the stickers made it look like the camo was sprayed on there by hand!
Looks very cool Addam. I've never done the camo stickers as I did mine in olive drab. I've actually got 2 and on the rere I have Wild One shocks which makes it run a whole lot better. Best wishes mate 😁
Thanks Pete! It is a very cool little buggy and it turned out nicely. The camo stickers worked very well. They make it look a lot like airbrushed on paint. A real time and stress saver! I will probably leave the stock shocks on there for looks and I don't plan on running this one very hard! More show than go with this one although I did put a faster motor and the speed pinion in there! Old habits die hard! LOL!
Awesome build Addam! Being into VW Baja Bugs, Buggys, and Sandrails I always liked the FAV (being a Chenowith sandrail stock) even though I mostly do the rock crawlers I wouldn't mind owning this one for my RC Volkswagen collection. You did a great job and the driver looks outstanding too!
Thank you! It was a fun one to do and I really enjoyed painting the driver. it was a little nerve wracking to start because I didn't want to mess it up but it worked out well. The full sized one the have is super cool, I would love to have it in traffic occasionally... "50 cal says move over to the slow lane Karen!" LOL!
I agree I like the shark mouth one better but the srb family of vehicles are my favorites. I’ve got a bhm wild one I’ll be building soon, and I can’t wait. It’s a bucket list RC for me.
The shark mount just makes it that more cool!! This one is fun though and definitely takes me back tot he GI Joe days from my childhood! You will enjoy the BHM Wild One, the oil dampers make it drive a lot better than this one will. This is gonna be a bouncy one I am sure!
It's a cool looking kit. It's one of those unique kits Tamiya puts out.
Yeah, this one is more scale and model like but it should still be a fun one to run around. The BHM Wild One is based on the same chassis and it did surprisingly well. I am really digging the GI Joe vibes from it and will enjoy running it around!
Awesome Addam always liked these remember seeing them back in the day in the Tamiya catalogues 😊 Pete 👍👍
I have always thought these looked super cool. I love how it turned out and it will be very much like going back to my GI Joe days as a kid when I drive it around! hopefully I find time to get it out this weekend and make a video!
fantastic looking buggy,very cool 👍👍😎😎
It is a really cool one and it has some serious GI Joe vibes to it!! I am very glad the re-released it again so I could get one.
Awesome looking buggy 😃
I've got the standard wild one and the Blockhead the F.A.V is next on my list 😁
Excellent video again Addam Thank you 💯👍👍👍👍
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it and I hope it helps you in the build. Those decals are very odd to cut out at first, so strange not to be cutting exactly on the edge of the colors! It feels like you are wearing drunk goggles for the first couple then you get used to it!
@@AddamsPlayground Cheers Addam I think I'll paint all the camo on mine then it will be unique 😀
@@herbieRCpaints53 it was a back up plan if the stickers looked goofy but they worked well. I would have been more surprised if you did not paint it all!!
Looks great! Congratulations on 6k!
👍😊
Thanks Jeremy! I really like this one and it takes me back to my GI Joe days as a kid! Thank as well for being an important part of that 6K my friend!
Hey Addam great build video mate and thanks for the heads up on the motor wiring 😊 I've just gotten one so will order some extension's 👍
Thanks! Yeah, it was odd to they did not include some extensions in there as it was an obvious issue. I am pretty sure at some point I got a set of 3-4 inch extensions with another kit they provided due to the same issue. I cannot recall though as the builds tend to blend together over the years! Have fun getting yours built, it is a cool little buggy!
Great tips in there Addam! Your driver figure looks killer! Wow!! That must have taken some time to do. Definitely a few things to think about when I get mine started. Still sourcing paint at the moment as I might be able to get the Tamiya paint…I’ve got a guy that knows a guy…you know how it goes lol - But yeah…great stuff…it really does look great.
Thanks! The driver figure did take a little while but it was kind of fun. I started with painting in a bunch random black squiggles on it and then went over that with the brown squiggles in between those and then the green ones in between them. Once all that was done I went back and filled in an spots that needed a little more with small dots of black or brown. It does help to have a rather fine line brush, I think I used a #1 or a #0 brush on it.it gives you a brand new sharpie type line from it. Hopefully you can track down the paints, that really does suck for you guys! Best of luck with the search and have a great weekend Freddy!
Awesome ! Wicked looking rc man ... nice one 🔥
Thanks! It is a very cool looking one and very GI Joe feeling! I think it will be cool getting it out for a run this weekend!
@@AddamsPlayground beach head would look super cool in it !!
Addam, this looks similar to the attack vehicles vehicles used in Desert Storm (minus the green). Cutting out the decals must have been tedious and a little frustrating, but it looks amazing.
It is a really cool buggy and very scale which Tamiya does well! Cutting out the decal was a unique challenge, never felt drunk before trying to cut out decals! LOL! It really messes with you eyes trying to follow a faded/blurry edge like that! they work really well and look just like airbrushed paint!
Great looking buggy 😆
Thanks! It turned out looking pretty cool and definitely has some strong GI Joe vibes to it!
Very cool Addam, another professional looking finish, I only have space for one Wild one variant, that’ll be the Blockhead motors version next year🤞
The Blockhead was the first one I got and it is a really nice. The oil shocks really help it out driving, this one is going to bounce all over the place I am sure. I do have the regular Wild One here to build at some point as well but no rush on that one. You will enjoy yours once you get it built!
Looks great Adam, nice job.
Keen to get 1 myself.
Gauranga ✌
Thank you! It was actually pretty fun painting up the driver figure, I was nervous it was going to be a real pain but it worked out well. Definitely takes you back to little kid days and playing with my GI Joes! Take care!
I seen this kit just yesterday lol , let's watch
It is a cool "blast from the past" kit and take me back to my GI Joe days as a kid! It turned out looking good and I hope to get out with it this weekend for a run!
Thank you for the nice car and the video!!!~~~
Thank you, it turned out really nice and it such a neat buggy! I am glad you liked it and I will get the run video done soon!!
Very nice build and tips for others
Thanks! Those decals were very different, I swear it was like having beer goggles on trying to cut them out at first! after one or two you get used to it. I hope to get it out for a run this weekend!
Unreal! Thank you!
I am glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out! It is a really cool buggy and I hope to get out with it this weekend and make the run video!
Looking good Addam l have not long done mine and really enjoyed the build, regarding the suspension l enjoy a bit of bounce but did slap on a set of WO oil shocks on the back its definitely worth doing it makes the buggy a lot more capable but doesn't rob it of its fun bouncy performance that it has!
I used a 2nd set of decals too for a bit more camo that was a cheap easy way to cover up certain plan area's!
You will have fun with this on track mate l can guarantee it😎
Thanks James! It is a cool one and it sure reminds me of playing with GI Joes as a kid! I am not too worried about the bounce, I will probably be doing more slow and "stealthy" passes with it than flat out speed passes but who knows until I get out there with it. The grass should be dry enough now for me to take it out and get the run video done of it. I do think it could use a tiny bit more camo to it, maybe on or two small ones but they did very well on the decals sheet. Other than feeling drunk trying to cut out the first couple they are great!
@AddamsPlayground lol l totally get you on the decals mate, l was fighting myself to cut away from the edge it was unnatural! or as you said my friend like l had a few!🍻
awesome build!
This is awesome classic Tamiya and suspension.
Its funny living in Japan and I have never found these kits being sold anywhere.
Thank you! It is a really cool looking one and really remind me of the GI Joes I played with as a kid! This would have been super cool to have back then!!
That is odd they are not something sold over there commonly. Come to think of it I am not sure I ever saw any show up on Buyee as many times as I have been on there.
@@AddamsPlayground Ohhhhh man if we had this in the early 80s when I was setting up my GI joes that would have been so cool!
I have been in Japan for 22 years now and oddly they don't sell many kits here.
I found some on amazon Japan and have built them, but its funny to me!
Also, Ive never seen a real hobby shop here like in the US! hahaha
The ideas of hobby I think is different!
Thank you for another cool build!
I love see how each car comes together!
That thing is cool.. awesome Addma. Now ineed to look what you mean on other version. Still so many Tamiyas i dont know about. THink Fred is doing build on one too.. Great stuff..😎
Hi Paul! It is a really cool looking buggy, some serious GI Joe vibes with it. Look for "Tamiya 58539" and it should show you the "shark mouth" version done back in 2012. It is the old fighter plane look and just makes it look like a whole different buggy almost. Yeah, Freddy is working on trying to find the paints he needs for his as the Tamiya spray paints got banned in Canada. I cannot imagine how much of a pain in the rear that is going to become for them!
@@AddamsPlayground That is insane the paint thing. I live on the boarder can send him some hahah use a drone ... Ill look for that kit and GI Joe for the win wanted that 20 dollar ali knock off while back still might get.. Thanks My friend
Great machine 💪🤩
It is a cool and unique one for sure! I love the scale looks of it!
Great job on that driver figure. 👍 My brother recently built the FAV too and he mentioned the same issue with the ESC motor wires not being long enough. Bit of an oversight on Tamiya's part. (Un)fortunately for us in Japan that isn't a problem, as Tamiya kits do not usually ship with an ESC! 😅
Thank you David. I had fun painting the camo on there even though I was a bit nervous going into it! The motor wires is a bit unfortunate especially for anyone that does not know how to solder or doesn't have the tools to do it. It was great they finally made the switch wire long enough but it was funny because the short wire would have worked in this one, it was just the motor leads were too short... kind of ironic! I know you guys don't get the ESC in your kits which is strange. Take care and have a great weekend!
What a jump in the past, I never had one but wanted, the only thing is in comparison with the sand Scorcer or the ford pickup or ... those car , this was less technologic... but so nice. Now is interesting the re realese...
Yes, it is most more unrefined and older in design but the looks of it are fantastic. It will be a bouncy things when driving it but I am 100% fine with that. It is just how it was 40 years ago when they originally released it except the roll bars and the side bars were molding in tan plastics on that one. Now it is all done I am fine with the black plastics. I look forward to getting it out for a run this weekend!
@@AddamsPlayground Wait to see and hear your impressions...
Great detailed review there Addam with some nice tips! Coming back into the hobby within the last year I've noticed the wires not quite being long enough issue, or way too long! Buggy looks great though and top work on the driver. I'm way too lazy for painting driver figures at the moment 😂
Thanks Tony, I am glad you enjoyed it! It was kind of a bummer to need to extend the motor wires, not everyone is going to be comfortable in doing that. it was nice to see the switch wire lengthened, I hope that it the new normal for them. I enjoyed painting up the driver, it was just painting squiggles for the most part! started with black, then went to brown and finished with green and he was all camo'ed up!
Wish I had this and the shark mouth one.
I really want them to do the shark mouth one. Hopefully with the re-re of this one maybe next year they will do that as well. We'll have to wait and see.
Great job with the FAV Addam
So even with TS paint you can't get the paint to stick to the roll bar ?
It will stick to it but since the black plastics of the roll cage and the side bars are soft and flexible it will want to crack, chip and scratch off fairly easily. For a shelf queen it would be fine but in a few tumble with it driving you would start to notice damage pretty quickly.
Thats sweet as 👌 i love the paint on the driver figure. Great tip about painting 1st aswell, i would love this buggy, infact. Its on my list to santa 😁 but with my limited skills, the driver wont look half as cool ad yours 😂
Thanks Richard! I enjoyed painting the driver up, it was intimidating at first but it really is nothing more than little squiggles and dots. get a good #1 or #0 brush and start with black and put a bunch of squiggles on until you are worried you messed up, then fill it in with some brown ones and then the green ones and next thing you know you have a good camo print. I did go back with the brown and green and add some random dots to fill in any spots that were still showing too much tan. I did all this with it all glued in place, makes it much easier to get a good pattern. Just start with a little and then fill in as you go, no really rules to it. I am sure you will do a great job on it! I am really hoping Santa brings it to you! It is a cool little buggy!
Cool car I’ve never had one, it’s on my extensive list 😂. Although I would have to get the XB I could not do the body.
It is a great looking one! XB versions are hard to get nowadays, seem to mainly be a Japan market thing at this point. I enjoyed painting the driver figure so if you need a hand with it let me know!
Today Im building my chrome midnight pumkin, just have to wait on the bearing but .ost can be done. This buggy looks nice but the Avante or Top Force is next on my list.
Have fun with the pumpkin build! I need to get my TF started, just ordered a slightly different decal sheet for it from MCI. I would love to get the Avante but it will have to wait a bit for my checking account to catch back up some LOL!
@AddamsPlayground I will get on Avante on my next trip to Bangkok I know a store that has a bunch of them in December I will be there. Here in Malaysia, they have an Avante tool bag, which is on order and its blue and yellow so that's sweet and it says Neat on the top.
Hey Addam! This looks great, the driver looks amazing! I’m thinking of getting this kit because my son loves army men and things like that but the motor wires sound like it could complicate things
Yeah the motor wires were kind of odd and a bit of a show stopper if you don't have the tools or skills to extended them properly. Otherwise a really cool kit! If you did end up getting one someone (me) would help you out with the ESC so don't let that be the deciding factor.
I always wanted one of these and still with rerelease I still don't own one ...love yours tho😮😂
It is a real looker for sure and I am sure I am going to have some serious GI Joe flashbacks when driving it! It is a cool addition to the collection and one I am going to try and not beat up, the slow and serious passes i think are going to be cooler than sending it full speed. Who knows though, I will find out once I get out with it later today hopefully.
@@AddamsPlayground yeah I would only do Beach action with that if I ended up getting one only because of the way it's set up being a grasshopper ish yeah it don't look like it could take a beating although you probably could put some real good stuff in the transmission I just leave it to a beach car
I'm sure my original (used purchase) fav has tan rollcage frame.
Yes, the original release of it had everything molded in the tan color. I am not sure why they went with the black parts. It was more than likely the durability or there black plastics or it could just to set it apart as a re-re kit. We'll never know! Now it is built and I have had time to take it all in I am fine with the black plastics on it.
Was there any painting of the hard shell? I built my grand hauler and did it in automotive ruby red paint. While even with my lack of painting skill it looks decent, the paint is already flaking. I did primer and let it all dry between coats but is the model paint for hard shell kits different to automotive paints?
You do not really have to paint the body, it is all molded in the tan color and I just left it as is. In the instruction it does tell you paint it but it is going to end up the same color and I chanced it and it turned out looking good. I was only worried the slightly shiny plastic would contrast too much with the matte decals but it looks fine. The only body panels I painted are the battery holders on the sides and the one headlight so you could get away without any spray paint and just hand paint them with the olive drab bottle paint you need for the driver figure camo.
For off the shelf spray paints I only will use the ones specifically designed for plastics or made for "all surfaces" as the tend to have more chemical bonding agents to them. Most times I don't use a primer either, just paint directly onto the plastic. Many primers are designed for metal and not the smooth, less porous plastics. For the Tamiya TS paints they are designed specifically for plastics and have all the good cancer causing bonding agents in there already LOL! (JK but I am probably right!)
@AddamsPlayground the primer i got was supposed to be plastic primer but maybe I still didn't use the right one. You live n learn. I did 2 coats primer, 4 or 3 coats colour and 2 coats gloss clearcoat. Where its done ot looks good but a couple of spots have crumbled where screws went in or 2 parts rub together. The GH is a decent kit but way too many glued parts for my liking.

You lost me at the frog style drive shafts
You are a genius with the two black spare O rings
I think I missed it What did you actually have to paint on this because you said the camouflage is a decal
I didn't think you were complaining at all in the video
They just have the dust boot on them like the Frog, just trailing arms with dog bones. No hex drive! The spare o-rings works great in quieting down the clacky front end, still going to make a little noise but much quieter this way.
You have to paint the two side battery holders, one front light, the rear lights and then the whole driver figure and cockpit area. The camo bits are all the decals but I think in step 1 or 2 you need to install painted parts and then the driver figure comes into play not to long afterwards. It was a lot easier to paint all that and then build it. The driver figure took some time to get fully painted.
I always feel like I seem to be complaining or focusing on the negative parts but I just everyone to know the troublesome or confusing parts to help them out. I am glad it did not sound like complaining! Take care my friend and have a great weekend!
How about a Tamiya BBX fast Attack Vehicle..?
Oh wow, that would be a super cool way to do one of those! Hrmmmm.... wonder what a body set costs.....
Bit rubbish that the wires aren’t long enough 🙁 I’m was interested to see that you hadn’t painted it Tan I was also thinking of not painting it. Actually looks great with just decals on the plastic (why paint if you don’t have to) 👍👍
Yeah I figured I would risk it and if the decals looked odd against it then I would just spray the whole thing with matte clear and even it all up. It really does not need it and looks great as is. In cases like the black edition or like the grey clod buster I had to paint do to the uneven or blotchiness of the molded plastic but this was perfectly colored and even all the way around.
The wires being too short would be a really big showstopper for some folks as they might not have the tools or skills to add the extensions or would have to source some to get it finished. Thankfully just a small speed bump in the build for me.
@@AddamsPlayground my chassis looks a slightly different shade to the body but I think the decals will focus attention away from that
@@martinhsrc6699 Yeah and they are on two different planes so it shouldn't be noticeable at all.
@@AddamsPlayground thanks Addam
Loos the switch, done that years ago.
I have one or two where the ESC is always on but I do like having the switches on them. On some it is just not reasonable to go through all the effort for sure.
