I thought by now someone might have added a comment about the similarity of theme of St James' Infirmary and TB Sheets, which Morrison wrote, and recorded in 1967. Colouring one's appreciation of this choice of material is the suggestion (there is no easily locatable publicly available information to confirm this) that the latter song is an autobiographical account of attending the deathbed of a young woman, perhaps a girlfriend.
