The song is a deeper meaning. Not political. It’s dedicated to his parents. Who both died in 1 year when he was 12 and 23 years old
Its not political at all! Maybe you should get some more information before you react!. Its about his dad. His dad died when he was 12, always telling him to spread his wings and travel the world. Watch the video again with subtitles. This is really the worst reaction video off all the 100.000 reaction videos there already are.
Maybe I should have. The lyrics could have been different, depending on how you read/listen to it. In his case it was all positive and thinking about his family, but if you read the lyrics, there are lines where you can quote about how bad Europe is (helping people, but not getting anything in return)
Thats the thing about any form of art. You can listen/read it how you want it to be or what you think they mean. But I am glad that you have seen all the 100.000 reactions to know that EVERYONE had the same opinion
@@JustDoIt-xq9pi im not even a "fanboy". Just dont talk bull about a song, or make it something it isn't.
Breaking news from Maaskantje
The hype around Joost Klein and his song Europapa continues to grow. This year's Dutch Eurovision entry entered the Top 40 out of nowhere on Friday and 'with a huge lead' at number 1. The song is also at the top of the Single Top 100 this week 'by a great distance'. The performance in the Top 40 is historic.
It has never happened before that a Eurovision Song Contest entry reached number 1 in the Netherlands before the actual party. No Eurovision Song Contest song has ever come to number one out of nowhere.
Success seems to be only the beginning for Europapa. The song is currently the most popular song on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Deezer in the Netherlands. Joost is also number 1 in Spotify in Belgium. The clip is currently the number 1 trending video on RUclips and is approaching eight million views.
Maaskantje gabber newspaper agency.
Yeah I heard. I am curious how crazy his performance will be during the event itself
This song has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is happy hardcore - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, also called gabber music. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art.
The lyrics have a lot of layers:
Europe let’s come together!
It’s now or never!
I love you all!
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Visit my friends in France
Or take a long walk to Vienna
I want to leave the Netherlands
But my passport is gone
Fortunately don't need a visa
To be with you
So take the bus to Poland
Or the train to Berlin
I have no money for Paris
So use my imagination
Do you have a euro please
Say "merci" and "please"
I lost everything
Except time
So am travelling every day
For the world is mine
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Eu-ro-pa!
Ich bin in Deutschland
Aber Ich bin so allein
Io sono in Italia
but still I feel pain
Am running from myself
Calling for "help!" all day long
Yes I even give people money
But there is no one to help me
I don't need es-car-gots
Don't need fish 'n chips
Don't need paella, no
I don't even really know what that is
Turn on the radio
I hear Stromae with "Papaoutai"
Won't stop until they say
"Yes, yes, he does that very well ey!"
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here until I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Eu-ro-pa!
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa….
Welcome in Europe boy!
At the end of the day
We are all human beings
My father once told me
It's a world without borders
I miss you every day
Is what I secretly whisper
You see dad
I listened to you
Is what I secretly whisper
You see dad
I listened to you
This is Dutch culture in a nutshell. Love it!
Absoluut not political. Its about that he lost his parents verry young. I dont understand this 😮
The lyrics could have been different, depending on how you read/listen to it. In his case it was all positive and thinking about his family, but if you read the lyrics, there are lines where you can quote about how bad Europe is (helping people, but not getting anything in return)
You can not run for your pain. Everywere you be alone then.
I dont understand that People see ghost Everywere 😢
@@Zehlia great copy-past on all off the reactions you get about you not getting the message 🤣🤡
@@n.c.6024 Even by reading the lyrics, you can see it can apply on both sides (positive aka i was indeed wrong) or in the negative way that i explained (yes by copy paste since its all the same message basicly).
I guess you dont understand how music works. It has a story that you can fill in yourself, so if its not the same story that Joost tried to explain, doesnt mean my interpretation is wrong
@@ZehliaJoost told by himself the song is about the loss of his parents. It has nothing to do with politics.
Joost Klein is GROOT! 🇳🇱
The dude is literally as positive as one can be about Europe- how tf can you be this wrong
That words can have different meanings, doesnt mean my english is bad. Burn dutch windmills could be a symbol of moving on, but it can also be a big middle finger to the country. Its just the way you look at it
COULD I be wrong? Ofcourse. But if words, footage etc can be interpretet differently, there is no real wrong answer
@@Zehlia thats a fallacy, and you know it- not only are you mixing up visual symbolism with lyricism, its a misuse of the ambiguity fallacy. Honestly, if you want to argue that you have issues with equivocation, thats fine. But to imply that there is a objective vagueness in the words is a vast overstatement.
@@AlecRyder Huge amount of characters and fancy words, yet you could still say only your opinion is valid
I see the meaning of the song in a different way and that should be all right. I still like it nonetheless
@@Zehlia This dude thinks he Descartes or something- your opinion basically amounts to "Science aint real because everything is just a opinion"
Not political. Just not.
It is about seeing the world without thinking in boundaries and limits, as his father told him.
He does, in a practical way by travelling through the Schengenzone (without borders) as an example, but still cannot outrun the emotional pain.
And it is not about getting anything in return for his money or the something to do with EU.
He means he can help other people with money, but no one can help him with his emotional burden (traumatic youth).
The burning in the end, is the closure of the painfull past.
No it is about his personal story.
The end is symbolic.
He burns his grief
And chooses life
He means it in a way that wherever he goes he takes his feelings of
grief that is why he burns that part of the past.
You misunderstood the message
The nineties vibe is nostalgic but also very
popular all over Europe
But it has nothing to do with politics.
The songfestival is about people coming together to celebrate.
Connection!

@@Zehlia I think you take it all to serious to be honest.
It is just a goofy funny song with the message that we are all just people his father teached him that boundaries are made by people I think he means that we all are one and we all have grief and all have good and bad sides.
@@Lizet-tu9px This has nothing to do with taking things too serious. When a song has multiple meanings, it could mean anything
@@Zehlia well the way
I see it Joost did not mean anything politic with this song because I have seen his performances online and his songs and it is all about his own story and he is very authentic
Of course some people
may see it different but
to me that is certainly not the case.
@@Zehlia great copy-past on all off the reactions you get about you not getting the message 🤣🤡
Completely agree with different references on a few levels. Just a shame people only see it as him singing about his dad, missing so many of the references

Je heb niet goed geluisterd 😂
Oh my god this guy is projecting his personal political views on Joost and this song. Maybe he should read the liner notes at the Eurovision site and get a deeper understanding. The only thing weird is what he’s saying. It’s totally beyond me how he, as a Dutch person who’s fluent in the language cannot see it for what it is. I think Germans would call this too much hineininterpretieren.
Right, cause its always the way it is? Ask Russia or even some 'peaceful' countries in Asia. They only get news/info what they are allowed to get. And it wouldnt be the first time that politics were involved during Eurovision (either with some songs or with rules).
My personal politics are far from this. I do think that some things do need to change, so im not sticking my head in some pink clouds
No politic at all, more a closer of the greef of his dead parents. He was an orphen when he was 12
❤ Joost ❤❤ Joost ❤❤ Joost ❤
Dude, what rock did you crawl out from under? Its not political at all. Unbelievable weird reaction.
So because my opinion is different, its weird? Speaking of a weird comment. But if it makes you feel better. I am glad I could you with that
@@Zehlia your reaction is not really important to me. I was just saying you do really mis the point here. That's all.
@@frankkortstee9877 Its not important, but you are still spending time watching it and comment TWICE on it. I guess it is important enough, else you would just click away
@@Zehlia good point, i wil click away. Bey
You got it all wrong ! Do better!!
That I have a different opinion, doesnt mean you are 'better' then I am
