The song is typical of the Netherlands. It is in Dutch, a music genre, the music video features mills and stunning Dutch landscapes.
Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he did. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. I'm so proud of him.

We are not calling it a joke, we are saying that this year there are a lot of songs that sound like Joke entry and general public might not realise serious meaning behind some of them. The tribute to his dad is amazing, really personal story!

This is a masterpiece. Euro papa= Euro dad, because papa is dad in Dutch. A sad song with lyrics with a meaning, with a message, in a happy hardcore melody. A letter to his father who died when he was a 12 year old child. His mother past away a year later. He promised his father that he will be someday on the Eurovision Songcontest stage. His father told him that it is possible because there are no borders between the countries, and no limits to follow his dream. Borders and limitations are made by human. In every country he went, he felt the pain and grief of no having his parents. The fire symbolise letting go of the grief and pain, and the start of a new chapter in his live.

The brief story of Europapa by Joost Klein:
His parents died when he was a kid. His father to cancer at the age of 12, and his mother to a cardiac arrest at the age of 13. So he was orphaned at age 13 and brought up by his brother and sister.
Joost has written Europapa as a letter to his father. His father told him the world has no borders. Borders are made up by humans and so you can create your own world, and that’s what Joost is doing every day from that day on.
After the death of his parents, he started searching for the meaning of life and relief of his pain by traveling, but never actually found it there. He gave people money (psychologists) to help him, but that did not work. Until he realized that he still had time and options to realize his dreams. After all, the world has no borders right? And so he did.
The burning house in the end represents losing but also moving on, in a positive way. Burning your bridges: no longer controlled by pain + sadness, but focused on your dreams. Without borders.
Joost always said to his parents that one day he would go to Eurovision and that day is here and now. 12 points to The Netherlands!

shalom, you both missed the meaning of this song you listen not to all the lyrics....first of all he talked about what we Europeans can do like traveling through Europe, he's talking about his parents, his father died when he was 12 and 1 year later his mum.... Europapa papa is dad in Dutch...the message at the end that you didn't show he tells what he meant! hope you going to review your review!

Last year’s act was bad. Not many people in the Netherlands believed in it and in the artists performing. And it turned out to be right, it didn’t do that much. This year there is a vibe like the year with Duncan so there is a chance…..
Happy tunes, but sad lyrics all through the song. No matter where you go you take the pain of loss with you.
