His journey is much more sentimental than 'traveling around Europe'. It's his emotional journey without borders...letting go of the past and following his father's advice. He told him the world knows no border. The only borders there are, are the ones you create yourself. Very deep...very emotional❤❤❤

The brief story of Europapa by Joost Klein:
His parents died when he was a kid. His father to cancer at the age of 12, and his mother to a cardiac arrest at the age of 13. So he was orphaned at age 13 and brought up by his brother and sister.
Joost has written Europapa as a letter to his father. His father told him the world has no borders. Borders are made up by humans and so you can create your own world, and that’s what Joost is doing every day from that day on.
After the death of his parents, he started searching for the meaning of life and relief of his pain by traveling, but never actually found it there. He gave people money (psychologists) to help him, but that did not work. Until he realized that he still had time and options to realize his dreams. After all, the world has no borders right? And so he did.
The burning house in the end represents losing but also moving on, in a positive way. Burning your bridges: no longer controlled by pain + sadness, but focused on your dreams. Without borders.
Joost always said to his parents that one day he would go to Eurovision and that day is here and now. 12 points to The Netherlands!

This was popular whin I was in my twenties. Now I am 55. I think the public will pike this a lot more then many expect. Specially if you understand/translate the sad lyrics throughout this song.

Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father (papa) said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision (Euro) Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. This style of music originated of the Netherlands. There is even a reference to Max Verstappen. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man training with weights represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The windmill is near where he spend his youth so also a trip trough memory lane to him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not be stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation. And "Europapa" is short for Eurovision Song contest and papa (dad). There are layers all trough the song and the video clip. There is a bit of 'Scooter' in there and people recognize Little Big as well. Just check the most viewed song on the channel of the Eurovision Songfestival: Little big, with a landslide the most populair. Little Big even released a song with similarities.

Super happy it's in Dutch as well. It may not be the prettiest language but we shouldn't have to replace it with English. Also the bit you dislike is what I like most, I guess it's all in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. Thanks for the reaction, much love from the Netherlands!

The burning of the house in the end is about letting go if things you love (his parents who died when he was 12-13 years old) in order to move on. This was an ultimate loving goodbye to his parents
