For those confused: This was an independent tournament founded 2 years ago, by Dan Friel and Alecko Eskandarian. It’s funded by TBT Enterprises. The teams are from all over the world. Many of the players are retirees. Some are sponsored by their ex-clubs. Others are former stars who made their own teams (Team Nani, Team Aguero, etc.) The tournament is a week long, with 48 men’s teams and 12 women’s.
Indoor soccer rules apply (7 v 7, no offside, no slide tackling, etc.) If the score is tied after two 20 minute halves, the next goal wins. One player is removed from each side every 5 minutes, until that goal is scored.

Why
People acting like each player taking home ~25k for a weekend of work is “basically charity” obviously have no clue where the women’s game is at. The top women professionals in the world are getting paid a fraction of what middle of the road men are getting paid. And none of the top-paid women in the world were playing here. Even for the stars that were here, maybe 25k after taxes for 4-5 days of work is probably a pretty darn big payday. And for the not-so-star players? Like the college players? Huge. Epic.

A lot of you don’t know how taxes work. When you make money like this it’s just added to your total income. So it’s 50k gross and then taxes will be whatever rate they end up at the end of the year. I doubt many are in a 50% overall tax burden situation. I don’t care who you 50k gross in a weekend is a lot of money

Still trolling 7 year-old news, huh? News flash (again): Men are generally bigger, stronger & faster than women. Shocker. Most of those high school ‘boys’ towered over the ‘women’, who were only a few years older. They were being groomed for MLS. And the USWNT is funded by US Soccer, not the men’s team.
Long story short, if you’re a soccer fan, then you’re a fan on all levels. You don’t discount college soccer because pro exists, or high school because of college, etc. If you’re just a misogynist, on the other hand, then stop clicking on women’s highlight videos.
