Another Canadian here. Toronto, where I live, doesn't get as cold or snowy as Montreal but our winters are cold and snowy as well. For me, wool coats are only for when I'm going immediately from my car into the building. If I have to walk outside on city streets, waterproof stylish boots and a puffer coat or jacket is tres chic.
I love all your outfits but I would like to add 1 caution as I live in Canada. Please don’t wear suede shoes in the winter. Even treated the white salt stains are impossible to remove. Treated leather is fine.
Marieanne , you are amazing. I follow a few fashion influencers, but I must admit that nobody else is quite as interesting and engaging as you. I love the fact that you try on all the outfits you describe, so we get a great idea of what they look like on a real moving person. You are beautiful, funny and very relatable. As far as I’m concerned , you are Number 1! Keep up the good work. Love from Mara from New York. ❤
I myself am from Toronto. My mother is from Timmons. My mother always said when buying a winter jacket 1) make sure your coat covers your bottom (no wind blowing up) 2) always have a hood 3) alway make sure your front zipper has a flap to cover it
Hello fellow Canadian. Like your mom, I was born and raised in Timmins, Ontario. Winter days were cold, sunny, the snow banks were very high, and we skated on the packed snow on our quiet neighbourhood street until our feet were too cold in our unlined leather skates! It’s been 45 years since I moved from northern Ontario and I can’t say that I miss it. I now live in a different climate where snow covers the ground for a few weeks a year. No need for shovels and snowblowers!
The worst thing about the cold season is the wind. That's why all my jackets have hoods. In extreme cold, I prefer to wear synthetic-padded pants over my jeans, which I take off indoors. And that's only if something happens to the car. And if everything is OK, it's warm in the car! Greetings from Finland!
I have never spent much time in such cold weather, but I was thinking that snow pants would be great for keeping you warm, not stylish 😂 but I prefer warmth over style 😂😂😂. If it's below 25 degrees Celsius I think that it's cold 😂😂😂 . I am not a fan of winter.
I grew up in Montreal, it can get cold in the winter but it is also very damp. Layering really helps. I live in northern Alberta now and it is much colder here but drier. I have learned to deal with the long cold winter here. Thanks for making it a tad more stylish.
As a woman who lives in the high mountains of Utah, USA (6500 ft or 2000 m) I appreciate this video! For years I have layered thin cotton yoga pants under my slacks because they breathe without adding bulk! Layers are the key to warmth during the winter months!! Wishing you a warm and chic winter, Marie- Anne!
Like other Canadians I appreciate that you tackled extreme cold dressing. Like others, I only wear my wool coats for going from car to building or if there is no snow in the forecast. Waterproof puffer coats with hoods are my choice otherwise. Everyone is a bit bulky in the winter here…lol! But dry! I won’t do wool trousers as if they get wet, they’re not comfortable. Cashmere sweaters, however, have a starring role in my wardrobe. Winter can be messy.
Another Canadian here! Wearing nice trouser style pants just don’t work for me, if I need to go out in snow they will get salt and slush on them. Climbing over packed snow at the roadsides is not easy! I also always feel hot so all the wool layers would be too much for me if I am going from inside location to inside location. My best bet is a hooded puffer waterproof coat that has a two way zipper and flat waterproof boots with good soles with tread. I can then take off the coat as soon as I enter the building. Not glamorous but real life! I am thankful to be able to have the warm clothing I need.
Thank you! I live in the US South and miss cold Falls and Winters so much. I need to go back to the mountains. I lived in Western Montana for a couple years and also learned to dress in thin layers. Then, I wore insulated boots and a long down coat. Very warm.
Yep! The penguins are knocking at the door! You’re so funny, Marie-Anne. I truly appreciate how you bring such a playful vibe to your videos-it keeps me coming back for more! By the way, the coats you’re modeling are absolutely gorgeous.
I wear silk jersey tops, and often the Long-John pants, too, under my winter wool and cashmere clothes. These are perfect for the relatively mild-winter climate where I live.
Amazing timely and helpful advice, dear Marie-Anne. All LilySilk garments are gorgeous. Our winters are not extreme but it's so damp and sometimes gets too windy where I am in the UK and your tips work. I'm loving deep red, burgundy, maroon and brown for this season. Your brown silk shirt and those combat black boots are to die for. You look stunning as always. Merci 🥰🤎
Hello Marie-Ann, I come from Northern Ontario, which is sometimes colder than Montreal. I have never heard this set of rules, although I practiced them growing up. This is a wonderful set of rules for any cold climate. Basically, wear something to break the wind and then be warm underneath. The only thing I would add is that any coat one wears, especially if a wool coat, be lined and have an extra layer - a chamois between the wool and the lining. It will break any wind on your back, which will keep you warm, but you must have an insulating lining. A heavy down puffer coat or technical puffer coat will also work. I love that the information would help anyone who isn't used to cold weather. What a great set of rules! A hat, scarf and lined gloves or mittens are also necessary!! Thank you!!
Yes! My mother always told me to look for a chamois in between the lining and outer layer. She said it was the sign of a good coat. I wonder if they still do that?
I grew up in the Midwest United States. They had coat checks there to keep your coat for you while attending the theater. I kinda miss that and the winter wonderland snowfalls. Fast forward to now. A few years ago the cold dropped to 1 degree farenheight and the electricity went out in Houston Texas. I finally bought layers again. Cotton can get me by but sweating in them can get heavy. I used exercise clothing to use as base layers under blue jeans. And a tank top under shirts. We don't need them much here, not more than a week a year, if that. Lined jean jackets can be enough most of the time. Thank you for the review.
Hello from North Yorkshire, England. This morning it was -4c Not as cold as Canada, but we do have the problem that it is often very damp, so a synthetic puffer coat or something waterproof is more practical in the winter than fabric. I wish it were not so, as you look marvellous in your fabric coats. I have two but I save them for Spring or Autumn. I love your channel and thank you for all your ideas and your cheerfulness !
A perfect video to show that you don’t have to look like a potato bag when weather gets cold. You would have felt proud of me with my outfits last January in New York. Definitely you are my little cricket on my shoulder telling me what to wear.
Bonjour Marie-Anne, Great ideas for staying warm in our Canadian winters. I grew up in the north and now live in a very temperate climate much like Normandy. Your ideas for colder weather are spot on. I wear silk underlayers, and layer on the sweaters. If I'm going shopping, or out to friends or a restaurant, I'll wear my wool coats, but if I'm out for a longer time, my down-filled coat keeps me cozy. Thanks for making winter dressing stylish!
I am from Poland. In the western part of the country winters are mild: little snow, short frost. You have to be more prepared for rain and wind. So we Poles have to have 2 types of clothes for winter:
Merci Marie-Anne, this video reminded me of the cold winters in Finland, great advice and to stay chic in cold weather, but we're in almost summer which has actually started already. I was wearing sleeveless dress and sandals today, so a bit different. I still watch your videos even though they are not quite for me at the moment, but I love your cheerful presentation and just seeing all those beautiful clothes elevates my spirits, so thank you so much.
LOL! I have a couple of thoughts. Uppermost is that if it's cold in Montreal, you should try Quebec City. Now THAT'S cold! :) I have been very lucky in my coats. Twenty-five years ago, I bought a beautiful leather coat at Danier Leather in Calgary. It has a removable lining and has worn beautifully. It's mellow and soft and still lovely. And lo and behold, my other winter coat is a barn coat from good old LL Bean. People are saying that they're really stylish this year, so mine is at the cleaner's to make it look extra spiffy. I actually knit my own scarves and hats, and they're all wool, some dressy, some not. Sadly, my only cashmere sweater is a hoodie type, so maybe I need to get one of those. My boots are not stylish. They're Italian hiking boots with good soles so I don't fall on my avoirdupois. I love seeing all the outfit combos you put together!! Gives me lots of ideas to pull from my own closet. My under layer is also a relic of my backpacking days of yore, and it's plain old thermal long johns. :) Oh, and while I am thinking of it. If your boots are roomy enough, look around for a pair of silk socks. You can still buy them in places that cater to hunters and hikers. They are universally white, so they shouldn't show. Put them next to your skin and layer on a pair of woolen socks. The silk will wick away any perspiration and protect your feet from the scratchy wool socks, and the double layers will keep your toes toasty!!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I have this pitiful belief that as long as my feet are warm and my ears are covered, I can stand up to anything. :) But I have a lot of work to do on maintaining chic and stylish looks while I am doing that.
Your look very chic and ready for the winter. Thank you for all this useful information. I can use it in Northern Utah! Alas, I am allergic to wool and cashmere. Love your ivory/oatmeal colored vest!
Wonderful and stylish ideas for staying warm! I just returned from a trip to Montréal. It’s such a beautiful city and I loved that I could buy French beauty products at the pharmacy!
Bonjour Marie-Anne. Really enjoyed watching this although it never gets freezing where I live but it's interesting looking forward to your next video xx
Beautiful outfits! One reason I moved to a tropical island is that I would never see snow or ice or freezing weather again! But I do love a splash of color in cold weather as it makes me happy. ☀️🦩🌴😍🥰☺️😊❤️
Merci for bringing french chic to below zero. Living in northern New York State I am not far from Montreal. Winter is the season when I usually dress to look like those men who service ski lifts. BTW, Canada makes the best winter boots for nasty weather.
Thank you for your styling advice, Marie-Ann, you've been a huge inspiration for me in my style journey! Cannot agree more about the layering. As a Russian, I can say that your worst enemy in winter is the wind. Our clothing has to be wind-proof, and preferably include a deep, fur-trimmed hood. Most of us wear down jackets/coats and end up looking like a giant burrito in winter 🙈 Also, qulity boots with a thick sole are a must. However, I think the outfits you showed can work well when you drive and don't have to brave the weather :)
Thanks Marie-Anne, such fun! As a former Montrealer, kindly allow me to say that we don't really dress like that in the depth of winter. All of those layers indoors would have you sweating profusely. Dressing for outdoor activities is one thing, but for city living we may wear one or two winter-weight items, topped by a much warmer outer layer. A wool coat would only work for spring and fall. Most people wear down-filled puffer coats or faux or real fur (controversial but the warmest). Unlike many places in Europe, our interiors are well-insulated and comfortably warm, so you would die with all of those layers, and then promptly freeze outdoors due to the perspiration. Merino wool as a base layer wicks moisture away from the body, silk and cashmere really are not as effective. Moisture is your biggest enemy in the cold.
As I said in the video Mary - most of the time we went by car or public transport or were in the underground Malls so there was no ice or snow to negotiate. On the days when there was I wore my boots 🙂
So very nice. Also, if a person is coming from a warm place to the cold, they will not be acclimated so the fleece-lined long drawers are a good idea. But for those of us who live in the cold regions - and therefore have slowly become accustomed to the colder weather as fall goes into winter - often we will wear long underwear made of silk or a lightweight but insulating fabric made for snow skiing or sledding. Ultimately, as you say, it is about layers = warmth & staying dry. :)
Commute with shoes that are safe on slippery ice and carry the nice and smaller shoes for the event in your bag. Keep another pair of lighter shoes at work; tips and greetings from Norway.
Hello Ms MarieAnne 👋 You were right in telling me I’d enjoy today’s video ❤ From start to finish, you showed us exactly how I’d love to dress everyday as colder temperatures are upon us here in the Midwest USA! Nice chic outfits! My observation i that I am freezing much more at the beginning of winter and our body acclimatizes after a month or so, so you need less layers. Also dry cold is way better than cold humid weather 🙂
We cold climate gals want to see photos of your French sister in her Canada outfits too💕💕💕💕 I have to wear a puffy coat or I’m freezing! How about a chic apres ski video? Please💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I live near Lake Michigan in Wisconsin 🇺🇸 and you put together a brilliant plan of attack to combat the wind chill and snow FASHIONABLY!❤❤❤❤❤Top notch and beautiful!!!
I've managed winters in Denver & Indianapolis with a longish down belted coat with a hood, wool socks, insulated boots, alpaca hat and winter gloves. If I get too hot in a store, I can just unzip my jacket. No tight jeans in really cold weather--your legs will freeze.
The brushed cashmere sweaters are gorgeous, do you handwash them ? I've been prevented from buying them as LilySilk recommends dry cleaning... Many thanks !
I live in Norway, yeaterday we had +2C and today 11C below zero. I layer with wool close to skin bottom and top, A wool wintercoat as you were vearing will not do, especially in windy weather. A puffer coat, and warm winter shoes with sheepwool inside. I never vear faux fur, as I try to avoid polyester=plastic, and it's not warm if you get wet.
“This sexy beast of clothing,”. I almost fell off my couch laughing just looking at that thing. Of course, I live in the hills between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz in California. It is easily 20 degrees cooler in my house than outside in the city (either Los Gatos or Santa Cruz). I wear undergarments like that every day during Winter. And yes, they are just as sexy as yours. Haha…. Sorry I just loved it. That is all. ❤
Minnesota here. I do all of Marie-Anne’s suggestions but my slim knitted alpaca scarf is worn in and out. Also silk underwear is extremely versatile for traveling.
Bonjour Marie-Ann, you certainly addressed Canadian weather and how to dress for them very well. I wouldn’t suggest suede boots because the slush and salt ruins the material and leave white stain on them. My challenge is that I’m a big petite woman and can’t find good winter coat to be extra larger for the layering underneath. Sweater sleeves are too long for my short length of my arms. In your opinion, how well do the Montreal women dress? Whenever I visit Quebec, I always feel more inspired with fashion. I wish you came to Toronto, I would give you lots of hugs!
Unfortunately, layering for me means a very warm coat with a thin sweater or long sleeved shirt underneath. Any more than this and I am a furnace, even when temps are quite low.

The gap between the life you want and the life you are living is called consistency, focus, and attitude.
😃👍
The brown silk shirt is so beautiful, also love all the items you have displayed 🤎🙂
🤎
Canadian here! I love your video.
🤗
Commute with shoes that are safe on slippery ice and carry the nice and smaller shoes for the event in your bag. Keep another pair of lighter shoes at work; tips and greetings from Norway.
Exactly what we do in Montreal, as well. Road salt is also a shoe-killer.
Good tips Cathrine - merci 😘
Hello Ms MarieAnne 👋
You were right in telling me I’d enjoy today’s video ❤
From start to finish,
you showed us exactly how I’d love to dress everyday as colder temperatures are upon us here in the Midwest USA!
Yours is
QUIET LUXURY to the Max!
I love everything you shared today❤BeYOUtiFul ❤
You look so pretty in the cashmere Ms MarieAnne;
made me wanna reach out and give you a big hug🤗
I look forward to to your next video! Until then, Take care.
Thank you for sharing your good taste and great ideas 💡 ❤️💡❤️💡❤️💡
😃😘
Nice chic outfits! My observation i that I am freezing much more at the beginning of winter and our body acclimatizes after a month or so, so you need less layers. Also dry cold is way better than cold humid weather 🙂
I feel the cold terribly so I am not sure I ever get used to it 🥶
Excellent You. Very much needed informing 🎉thank you so much
😘
We cold climate gals want to see photos of your French sister in her Canada outfits too💕💕💕💕 I have to wear a puffy coat or I’m freezing! How about a chic apres ski video? Please💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I live near Lake Michigan in Wisconsin 🇺🇸 and you put together a brilliant plan of attack to combat the wind chill and snow FASHIONABLY!❤❤❤❤❤Top notch and beautiful!!!
Glad you liked it Happy xx
I've managed winters in Denver & Indianapolis with a longish down belted coat with a hood, wool socks, insulated boots, alpaca hat and winter gloves. If I get too hot in a store, I can just unzip my jacket. No tight jeans in really cold weather--your legs will freeze.
😃👍 Jeans are a very cold material Lori 👍
Merci beaucoup 😄😄😄👍
The brushed cashmere sweaters are gorgeous, do you handwash them ? I've been prevented from buying them as LilySilk recommends dry cleaning... Many thanks !
I always advise to follow the instructions Mary but I have done this video here ruclips.net/video/E447LPvLuN4/видео.html&pp=ygULI215Y2FzaG1lcmU%3D
Ok that is hilarious. Thank you. The penguins are knocking on your door?
😃🐧
I live in Norway, yeaterday we had +2C and today 11C below zero. I layer with wool close to skin bottom and top, A wool wintercoat as you were vearing will not do, especially in windy weather. A puffer coat, and warm winter shoes with sheepwool inside. I never vear faux fur, as I try to avoid polyester=plastic, and it's not warm if you get wet.
Baby it's cold outside -- but your looks really warm things up.
Awww merci Ms B xx
The secret of wool is that it generates heat when it absorbs water vapour from the body or from the air outside
What colour is that silk top? It looks amazing on you babe. ❤️❤️
Merci bien - it is a lovely chocolate brown 🤎
I would love to take you out for lunch or dinner whilst you’re wearing that..❤️❤️
Bonjour Marie-Anne, pour une parisienne établie au 🇨🇦 depuis plus de 20 ans, le challenge a toujours été là 😏.
😃😘
“This sexy beast of clothing,”. I almost fell off my couch laughing just looking at that thing. Of course, I live in the hills between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz in California. It is easily 20 degrees cooler in my house than outside in the city (either Los Gatos or Santa Cruz). I wear undergarments like that every day during Winter. And yes, they are just as sexy as yours. Haha…. Sorry I just loved it. That is all. ❤
No need for sorry Kim 😃 when you gotta be warm a girl's gotta wear what a girl's gotta wear 😉
Hello Marie Anne, please, which size are your new pullowers and braun blouse from Lilysilk?
Bonjour Katarina - the sweaters are small and the blouse is medium 😘
Hello Marie Anne and thank you for the super useful video. Where I can buy the fleeced tights from?
I've put a link in the description Mara x
Where do you get the long sleeve base layer
There are many for example Damart Mary I will pop something in the links xx
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you I dislike synthetic sweaty fabric eg polyester
Minnesota here. I do all of Marie-Anne’s suggestions but my slim knitted
alpaca scarf is worn in and out. Also silk underwear is extremely versatile for traveling.
😃👍
When layering, I’ve gotten static electricity. Do you have this problem? If so any suggestions?
Thank-you.
In Canada we use Static Guard spray to help with this.
I can't say that I do Jan 😳⚡️
Bonjour Marie-Ann, you certainly addressed Canadian weather and how to dress for them very well. I wouldn’t suggest suede boots because the slush and salt ruins the material and leave white stain on them. My challenge is that I’m a big petite woman and can’t find good winter coat to be extra larger for the layering underneath. Sweater sleeves are too long for my short length of my arms.
In your opinion, how well do the Montreal women dress? Whenever I visit Quebec, I always feel more inspired with fashion. I wish you came to Toronto, I would give you lots of hugs!
Montreal women are very stylish Christina 😃 it must be the French ancestry 😉 would love to visit Toronto to get those hugs 🤗
@ Enjoy your Holidays and winter season!
Central Time Zone- Nortb America: btw: thanking Media Technical Support and as well Admin Team/ bless: thanks 😊 ( San Angelo- SJT
Marie- Anne: btw: thank you 😊; again; thank you 😊 ( USA 🇺🇸)
😘
What about ski pants?? I was a teenager living in Belgium, very cold, so my parents bought me ski pants!!! Are they in style???
Anything to stay warm in the extremes Janice 😘
Unfortunately, layering for me means a very warm coat with a thin sweater or long sleeved shirt underneath. Any more than this and I am a furnace, even when temps are quite low.
